  • Hello, I am trying to create a water effect that only affects half of my screen by using shaders.

Ideally, I would like to apply the effect to a rectangle that is placed at the front of the level and any object that passes behind it is distorted. So for example, if the player is standing in the water, waist high, only his\her legs will be distorted.

Any tips on how I could achieve this would be most welcome.

  • Hi guys, just wanted to make a couple of small requests concerning C2.

OK, first up, in the event sheet we have a nice window which provides us with easy access to the elements in our projects that we have created and this is a really useful feature but it seems that some items, such as currently created layers and also the animations that have been created for our objects, are not listed. Will this be addressed in the future or is there a reason that some things are not listed here? It would be very handy especially when you have large amounts of these items.

Secondly, sometimes when using the auto complete feature, when typing into the event editor, the case of the words is not correct. For example, if I type Enemy. it brings up my list of options and I choose Enemy.X but when entered it reads in lower case, enemy.x, yet another time it enters correctly with Enemy.X I cannot seem to get this to happen on a regular basis so I am not sure what is happening? Have others had this? Sadly, I cannot reproduce this so I have not posted to the bugs forum for that reason.

Also, in the event editor if you zoom all the way out so that the text is really tiny and then you try to add a new condition when you get to type your values etc... in they are also really tiny.

Oh and lastly, when using the brush tool in the image editor you can see a preview of what you are about to paint under your cursor but the other tools do not have this, like the pencil tool which just shows the cursor. Could this be added to make things a bit more intuitive as it feels a little awkward to use.

    Thank you for your time.

  • Hello, I just wanted to ask if there is a possibility in a future release to support MIDI keyboard input (Not sure if this is possible with HTML5?)

Although it will not be useful to everyone, some cool things could be done with it, Music games spring to mind as well as software like Synthesia, the teach yourself Piano program.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Fair enough, just a thought.

  • Hi all,

I was trying an emulator the other day and it had a nice feature that allowed you to export game play videos with sound\music as uncompressed files.

Is there any chance that we could see this in C2 as it could be really useful and I do not recall any other game creator having a feature like this.

There are lots of us who would like to take videos of our games to display on YouTube etc. without having to buy additional software that is up to the job, so I think that it would be worth the time to implement.

    Just an idea...

I`m also using 64-Bit Windows with 32-Bit Firefox.

Is there a 64-Bit version of Firefox that is stable to use? I`ll have to take a look.

  • Hi noirfluo, I think that we are all eager for some new features but I believe Ashley will get around to adding these things in time we just have to be patient.

I`m sure that Ashley has a game plan and he is probably holding off of certain features for a good reason.

Maybe Ashley could give us a heads up without revealing exact details.

  • Thanks Arima for the suggestion, sounds like it could work. Lots of neat ideas here, thanks guys for taking the time to post.

Still hopeful for a possible official addition in the future.

  • Hi Tokinsom, yes I am aware of the Pixel Rounding option but it still isn`t quite what I`m after. It does help to some degree though.

I also agree that it should work for rotation and scaling, hopefully this is on Ashleys todo list?

  • Thanks sqiddster for the suggestions, some good ideas there that I will have a play with.

It would be nice to have an inbuilt option to easily handle this though.

  • I have recently been working on a retro styled game and have been having problems trying to recreate the look of an older console because C2 updates just too smoothly, now I am sure that one has not been said before ;)

Anyway, I came to think that it would be pretty neat to have an update interval option that would allow you to set C2 to update at a lower framerate with regards to object positioning and frames animating and so on.

This would also look great if you were trying to recreate an older cartoon animation style in a time when things were not quite so silky smooth due to the animators having to cut corners because of money\time constraints.

Most people will probably wonder why this would be beneficial to them but I think that it would be a pretty small feature to add and would increase the overall charm of retro games.

    Thanks for reading.

I` give it a try Potato and let you all know but it looks promising....

OK, it works! Thanks Potato :)

I`m surprised that no one else gets this though? It still happens with Firefox 16.0.1 Maybe something can be added to Construct 2 to counter this or is it down to the individual browser?

    Thanks again.

Hi Ashley, while trying to find a possible cause of this problem for you I was playing Skygear-01 Destroyer in the Arcade and I noticed that the music only stutters until I press the fire button.

I`m not sure whether it is because another sound effect is playing or it`s because I`m pressing a button down but for a few seconds the music plays fine and then it starts to stutter again until I repeat the process. As mentioned above I can provide a small video for you if needed.

I am also controlling the ships movement with the keys but the music only plays concretely when I press fire so it must be something to do with another sound playing? Very weird indeed.

    Any ideas?

Hi guys, OK, I have the latest drivers for all of my hardware so that is not the problem. I have also seen the problem on another Computer running Firefox, the only similarity is that we are both using a 64-Bit OS but Firefox version is 32-Bit I believe. Different soundcards though so it cannot be that. I`m on Vista the other Windows 7.

I can send a small video or sound file to you Ashley if you would would like to hear what is happening. Just let me know.

I do not want you to waste your valuable time on this however, I just wanted to point it out. If others are not having the same problem then please do not worry I`m sure that you have plenty to keep you busy.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

Firefox just updated to version 16 and the problem still exists for me. IE and Chrome work fine though.

I`m not sure if this is worth looking into but I just wanted to mention it. I know that you have mentioned in the past that it is not a problem with C2 but if I was a first time buyer and did`nt know better it would stop me from making a purchase which would be a shame.

I will see if I can find the cause of this.
