Thanks for taking the time to reply, most appreciated.

  • I`ve recently be trying to fill in the gaps in my limited mathematics education in the interest of trying to improve my programming skills. I have decided to start from scratch but I want to work all the way up to that kind of maths needed to program most 2D games.

Can anyone point me to any good sites? There seems to be just to many for me to choose from and I do not know where to begin.

What are the key skills needed to program most 2D games? Can someone who isn`t great at maths learn these things?

Thanks for any help or advice.

  • I have recently discovered that the tilemap editor in Construct 2 is not working as it should on my Windows Vista machine. I can pick tiles and place them in the layout view but there is no indication in the tilemap editor itself as to what tile\tiles are currently selected. I do not get the black rectangle, tile numbers or the blue selection box at all.

If you are a Vista user then please take a moment to look at this YouTube video.

Does your tilemap editor work in the same way as in this video or are you experiencing the same problems as me?

Please take a moment to post your findings.

  • Thanks for the reply. I`m on Vista too so maybe that could be the problem. Strangely, I am using the aero theme with no family window problems.

  • Prominent, can I ask which OS you are using?

  • Sorry, it is a hard one to explain. I thought that my observed result description would be enough to explain my problem. I decided not to post a screen shot as it does not really show the problem but if you go to the manual entry here,

    https://www.scirra.com/manual/172/tilemap

and click on the tilemap image with the mouse then that is exactly what I am seeing in Construct 2.

If I replicate your steps from above I am not getting the hovered tile with black and white outline or the blue selection that you mention, I can however still choose tiles and draw with them in the layout view.

At least on other user has reported that the same thing is happening to them in my Construct 2 general thread here,

    tile-map-window-not-rendering-correctly_t151384

  • Problem Description

The tilemap editor is not rendering correctly on my system. Construct 2 shows no other graphical problems on my computer. The latest graphics drivers are installed.

    Attach a Capx

Not relevant as the issue occurs with a completely blank project.

    Description of Capx

    Please see above.

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    Please see above.

    Observed Result

Even though the tilemap editor is working as it should, all tools work, tiles can be selected and used within the layout view, I am getting no visual feedback as to what tile is currently selected or where I am in the tilemap itself. It is like I`m trying to click on a non interactive image.

    Expected Result

I`d always assumed that this was just how Construct 2 worked until I saw a YouTube video that clearly shows the currently selected tile\tiles hightlighted in the editor along with other visual hints for the user.

    Affected Browsers

    Not relevant.

    Operating System and Service Pack

    Windows Vista Ultimate (64-Bit) SP2

    Construct 2 Version ID

Both the beta (r211) and stable (r206) version show this behaviour.

  • I`ll try changing the theme and then update with my findings...

Edit : OK, I have tried changing my theme around but still the issue persists. If I cannot find a solution today I will post it as a bug.

  • Thank you for the reply but no luck I`m afraid.

I have tried each tool and they all work as they should but the actual tile part of the editor itself has no overlay at all, just the tiles themselves.

  • I`ve just started to use tilemaps for the first time and seem to have an issue with the tilemap editor not working as expected.

When I click tiles for selection they are not highlighted in any way, in fact the only thing updated is my cursor position, there are no other visual clues as to what I am selecting.

I have watched several videos of the tilemap editor in action which shows the currently selected tile highlighted. Also, when multiple tiles are selected they are all highlighted in the editor window. I am not getting this at all so it makes it hard to see what I currently have selected.

Am I missing something obvious here? Has anybody else experienced this issue?

Any help would be most welcome.

  • Interesting, I will have to try it out in a few different browsers.

    Thanks for the help.

  • No, I do not think so.

I think that the correct result would be trails left behind any sprites that have moved as they are not being cleared.

  • In the manual under the Clear Background option it says that if you set Construct 2 to skip both background redraws any areas of the screen that are not covered by objects will be glitchy or full of garbage pixel data.

I know that this is a strange request but I would like to see an example of this in action as I cannot produce this effect.

    Thank you for any help.

  • When the need arises to enter the name of an animation, or similar piece of information, into an event sheet the very helpful auto complete box pops up and shows the available options. This is great but for some reason it does not seem to work when I want to choose image points in the same way.

Please could this minor issue be updated (unless it is intended to be this way and I am missing something) as it would make for a more consistent work flow.

    Thank you for reading.

  • Thank you. I had completely missed the Water Background effect. Works perfectly!
