Sorry for leaping in first (and for going over the top with my reply by including Manual links). In future, if I'm tempted to reply to a thread that you haven't already replied to, I'll send you a PM offering you first right of reply. <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle">

    Use floor(x)

    From the Manual: floor(x) Round down x e.g. floor(5.9) = 5

Hint: Check out all the system expressions in the Manual.

  • Am I the only one here that loves the new Scirra's Homepage design?

    No!! Brilliant video, too!

  • Taurian

Thanks immensely for your very positive feedback! (And for setting the challenge in the first place!) I do hope your optimism that Photon will come round is borne out. In the meantime, I'm holding off further development but would relish resuming it if they give us a Photon Cloud JavaScript API.

"two online users will be playing against one another" - I assume you mean on separate machines. If so, do a Forum search for 'multiplayer' - you'll find a number of threads with answers to your questions (short answers: it can be done, using plugins).

  • Sorry, I guess I'm just stupid, or not very tech savvy. All I got in the free bundle was the space sprites. I couldn't find any jungle platform pack.

    tmastered

No apology needed - except from me! I didn't realise that the Jungle sprites pack comes with the licence.

Read the previous posts in this thread!!

  • ... I intend to put it on Heroku, still reading reviews. Why? Do they have cheat solutions?

No, no inbuilt cheat filters on Heroku. You need a full games platform (like Photon Cloud) for that.

If you're using juantar's server, you'll need to code your own cheat filters.

  • Schoening

Yes, one of the main functions of a multiplayer game server is to provide against cheating.

What server are you using with socket.io? (e.g. your own node.js server hosted on Heroku)

  • nicedwar

This does look promising! Love their promo video!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • ... It appears to be a potential simplified node.js server integration.

Since I'm not well versed enough to analyze its potential use with C2, I thought I'd share it here ...

    teahousemoon

Thanks for sharing. Isogenic seems to be a complete game development platform, so (apart from the multiplayer backend) it seems to be in the same space as Construct 2 - except that it requires programming in raw JavaScript. And on that basis, there wouldn't seem to be any potential for integration with C2.

(And thanks for giving the Photon people a rev-up in their Forum!)

  • Well i was more talking cant the files be downloaded in the background without having the end user/customer having to set up and configure themselves ...

    Setthh

Exactly what files are you referring to? The end user/customer has nothing to set up and configure, and there's essentially nothing more downloaded with a (Photon-based) HTML5 multiplayer game than is downloaded for a single player game (possibly less, dependent on what plugins the singleplayer game uses).

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • teahousemoon

I'd simply ask them about what's required for Construct 2 game hosting (single player and multiplayer).

See what they come back with and you can follow up with more specific questions if it seems like a viable option.

  • ... I am curious whether or not a Gaikai plug-in could be made possible ...

Not much info on their website about installing a game in the Gakai cloud. I imagine there are costs involved and that much more than a generic C2 plugin would be required.

teahousemoon I suggest you contact them to find out exactly what's involved.

  • ... But it seems that there is a lot of work even installing all these things just to play on local. Would there be a way that we could package it all together so there is no need to download all these other things?

    Setthh

Not exactly sure what you mean by "all these (other) things", but I guess you're referring to the game server setup. If that's the case, the answer to your question is no. Unlike single player games, the server is an essential component of a multiplayer game and its setup can't be avoided.
