    Thanks for your explanation/clarification. You've butted up against one of the inherent limitations of JavaScript running in a non-browser environment viz. its lack of an import/include/require facility, like that enjoyed by C/Java/Perl/PHP ....

    Until JavaScript adds this (or the Scirra team modifies their engine to provide for loading an edithelper.js, as for common.js), dropping in the source code itself would seem to be your only option

    1) If you only want to include the code in edittime.js and not in runtime.js, why can you not simply code it directly into edittime.js itself?

    2) What exactly are you wanting to include in your edittime.js?

    3) Why do you call them "common functions"? What are they common to? (common.js is necessarily common to both edittime.js and runtime.js - that's what 'common' means, but what does it mean for you?)

    Yes, you're quite right. It's known in the trade as 'same origin policy'. More about it here.

    I think not. No multiplayer game server that had even basic security measures would allow downloadng of its code.

    Surely arrays are the way to go? Representing a 2D matrix as a 2D array is the natural implementation. Any alternative representation would end up looking like an array anyway. So why would you not want to use arrays?

  • Multiplayer games are generally understood to refer to "games that can be played online by multiple users in different areas". A key requirement is a server that can manage player interactions. Implementing such a server is beyond the (current) scope of Construct 2 - and probably beyond the skillset of most users of Construct 2.

    A few plugins have been developed for Construct 2 which enable the client-side interactions with a multiplayer server. (For example, I've developed an experimental plugin which interacts with a Photon game server.) Do a Forum serach for 'multiplayer', and you'll find discussions of these plugins - and of multiplayer issues in general.

  • Neither good nor bad, IMO. It's really just formalising the current situation.

    As Ian Elliot says further on, "My guess is that Chrome and Firefox will adopt as much of the new stuff as possible and Microsoft will simply pick which bits most suit its corporate interests" - and that's exactly what's been the situation for quite some time now, with IE not a suitable vehicle for many HTML5 games.

    So, in a word, SNAFU.
