  • Ashley I've fixed it ... sort of. The ship was an animated sprite, made up of four frames. When I remove the animation, it works fine. I've double-checked the image points are all the same, they are. Can you not use animation with physics objects?

  • That's weird, the link was working the other day. Re-uploaded it now. I understand what you're saying about it being out of your hands, if you can confirm it's probably a Box2D bug I could message them maybe and see what they say.

    Cheers.

  • You could create a tiled background with something like GET READY! on it and place it over everything on screen. Then after a second or so (enough time for the particles to fill the screen, make that tile invisible, revealing everything behind. The GET READY! is just an example of course and the way your game works might not work with this method but it's just an idea you could adapt. I've knocked this up to demonstrate. I used a text object too because I didn't have a graphic with text on but you get the idea.

  • That's a great idea but I'm a pessimist so I'd be afraid of the game not selling and everyone hating me lol. It's something to consider though once I come up with a game I'm really happy with.

  • Tom How long does it take for a decision?

  • I want to make another Space Invaders clone, but I'm having a real hard time coming up with an art style for it. How do you all go about it? Trial and error? Research? Sometimes I can just sit there and it happens, most of the time though everything I create looks plop. Any pointers?

Out of interest, has anyone hired an artist for their game? What kind of money can you expect to spend for a decent job? I've seen some advertised but I don't want to waste their time if it's too expensive. I know the only way to find out is to ask but I'd like a rough idea of what I'd be looking at.

    Cheers.

  • I've told my son to tell all his mates and all their mates. We'll get it on Steam if it's the last thing we do ;D

  • I asked a question about a game I'm working on. It involved a ship attaching to a block via a physics joint. The problem was, when you thrust up the screen with the block attached, the block moved gradually closer to the ship until it eventually was above it.

User R0j0hound mentioned it could be a bug with the physics joints. He's far more clued up than I am with the technical side of things, so just in case it is a bug, I'm posting it here.

R0j0hounds reply t looks like it's a bug with joints. I landed on a higher ledge and the orange box just sat above the rocket like you said. The joint offsets aren't the same at different positions.

Here's a demo of the CAPX showing what I mean. Move the ship above the block, then thrust up the screen and you'll see the problem.

    System Spec

AMD 645 Athlon X4 Black Edition

    4mb RAM

    Nvidia 560 ti graphics card

    Windows 7 64

Google Chrome Version 23.0.1271.40 beta-m (have tried with none beta version too and IE9)

And here's the CAPX so you can have a proper look at what's going one.

EDIT just added system specs and browser info etc.

  • Yeah just to clear it up, it's NOT my game, I was just letting people know that an Alpha has been released. :) You're still right with everything you said though, the game is an inspiration.

Thanks for clearing that up too Anim, I wasn't sure which version of Construct was used.

  • Not sure what version of Construct he's using but Konjak states on the FAQ that his new games (Iconoclasts being the first) are created with Construct. Either way it's an amazing piece of work and a testament to how great the software is.

  • Oh, OK thanks R0j0. Maybe Ashley or Tom could confirm this? Saves me trying to find a fix. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hi, just messing about with a CAPX of mine, trying to work out how to get an object tethered to another using a physics joint. If you try this CAPX and move the ship near the orange block, they'll 'connect together (no graphic to indicate that yet, just a text box). This works fine but if you then thrust the ship up the screen, the orange box slowly gets closer and closer to the ship, until it's above it!

Anyone know why it does this and how to fix it?

    Cheers.

  • Another test app. This time I created the smoke manually instead of using a particle emitter. I got the method from a member of this site, MrFlibble, that doesn't seem to come on anymore for some reason. I'd lost the CAP he sent me so had to re-work it all out again.

By doing it manually it allows me to add a sort of physics to the smoke, making it bounce off floors etc. Think it looks OK. Now all I need is a game to use it in lol.

Absolutely THE best 2D creation software. I've tried them all and keep coming back to C2. Developed completly by two lads so do them a favour and help them out by getting thier software on Steam.

    Good luck!

  • This is brilliant! I've just asked the lads at Scirra about the HTML5 file system API and I get a link to this! I need to stay upto speed on here, things are moving rapidly!

    Top work.
