    Pirin Astrobiology Institute, Nebraska.

    Late afternoon.

    Two people stood in the lab and stared at a crystal cube. After a while, Walter Pirin scratched his head and said:

    "I'm sure. Really, I am. This is a light based information storage object. You've seen it from the laser tests. Light got in, but never got out. Whatever's inside that crystal, it's a treasure from outside of this world. We need to access the data."

    Cobble nodded his head.

    "I agree. It is some kind of data storage. Which makes me wonder. Why was it floating freely in space?"

    "Hard to tell. Maybe it is just the equivalent of our message in a bottle, or it was onboard a space ship that wrecked somewhere. Or the planet, on which this crystal was created, exploded."

    "Well, the best chance to find the answer could be to access the data from this crystal - if there are any."

    "Right. We'll need help. Let's make some calls. Quantum physicists will love this challenge!"

    Goblin Valley State Park, Utah.

    Early morning.

    A helicopter landed and Professor Walter Pirin alighted from it. The astrophysicist and founder of the Pirin Astrobiology Institute walked towards a group of people that seemed to be waiting for him. He looked around and said:

    "So, where is it?"

    "Just follow me."

    The man who had answered was obviously very excited. Jimmy Cobble worked for the PAI with passion.

    "You won't believe it", he noticed. He led Pirin to a vast plain and pointed to a direction.

    "Most of the remnants were found there."

    "Pretty narrow. I wouldn't expect the area to be so small."

    Pirin looked at Cobble. He could tell from Cobble's behavior that there was more.

    "Come on, Jimmy, you wouldn't have called me for a few remnants of an asteroid that broke to pieces in the atmosphere!"

    "You're right. This one is special. I'm not even sure what it is. Definitely no asteroid. We found something enclosed. But I want you to see it yourself."

    Cobble walked to a near table with something lying on it that looked a lot like stone. He carefully lifted the stone and handed it over to Pirin who just needed five seconds until he realized what he held in his hands.

    "Oh my god", he reacted, "a crystal cube. A cube! A processed crystal!"

    Cobble smiled.

    "Isn't it fantastic? We might hold the proof of extraterrestrial life!"

    Also, I'm doing good progress in my recovery. I slowly started making music again and a few loops are among it. I think there'll be some activity from me soon here on the forums.

  • Just an interesting report.It would have been interesting, if it were reported by a neutral organization and not an online gaming network <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Any game with enjoyable grinding is purposely built around the grinding aspect. See the Diablo series, or better yet Path Of Exile, Minecraft, Don't Starve, Swords & Potions 2, the Anno series, etc.

    In all other games it always feels arty, like being superimposed on something already working fine without.

    So, if you are able to make the grinding an essential part of the game, it will be accepted.

  • Also, it looks like 2 researchers have come up with a new scaling algorithm called Depixelizing Pixel Art ... Looks awesome, but is not public <img src="smileys/smiley24.gif" border="0" align="middle">

    Multi Comparison 2That's not really a scaling algorithm but a vectoriser, converting the source to splines. And that's also why it can't be done with a pixel shader (that's what C2's effects are).

    Still broken. Can we get just any feedback on this? Currently this website is a construction site and I wonder why the issues are not addressed?

  • I'd never do any payments based on bitcoins. Paypal is ok.

    Don't think too small. If you offer a complete engine, you should calculate the manpower used to do it. Also, don't forget, one could make a whole series of games based on such an engine. So be careful with your calculation and don't make it too cheap.

  • Generally, I hate letting the player character die. It's just bad game design. There are so many alternatives. For example, imagine a jumping puzzle that's just too hard for you. The character falls, but instead of dying, he lands on another path that is much simpler. Or he lands on a path that leads him back to the start, but on the way you find a one-time rocket suit that let's you manage that one spot where you failed before. There's so much that can be done.

    The fear of a 'game over' isn't motivating, it's frustrating. But, in the example above with that rocket suit, I would lose XP or a heart or whatever reward, for not being able to do the jump. And that would motivate to play again.
