  • I used to fall in that same trap all the time. Ya work on something for a month, get demotivated or think of something cooler/more fun, then work on that for a month..before you know it you've got 20 unfinished games or what have you. Here are some things that have helped me..

-Take a break from game development/games as a whole. Eventually you'll start thinking about your awesome project and how badly you want to work on it and finish it ^^

-Work on a different aspect of the game for a while. Tired of spriting? Go work on some music. Tired of level design? Go make some bosses and enemies. Tired of that? Make some collectibles and powerups!

-Never work on something just because it sounds cool or whatever. Make sure you can do it and really, really want to. The most demotivating thing I can think of is fixing bugs for hours on end or days/weeks/even months on some feature set you don't fully understand. You finally finish it and..well..great, now that's done. Only 5,000 more features to go!

-Don't be afraid to cut features. Sometimes less is more. I see lots of games with full-blown crafting and stuff and 9 times out of 10 it's just a burden.

-Polish polish polish! If you can't think of anything new at the moment go and improve what's already there. Your game will look & feel better and so will your outlook.

-I've found that writing stories for my games helps because it creates a sort of sentimental/emotional bond between you and the game, and the story needs to be told! The thought of no one ever knowing it makes me sad, so I work harder!

  • Rofl. It's not like it's difficult. It just doesn't pick up any of my *totally standard and commonly used* gamepads that all of my machines & everything else have for the past 10+ years, so I haven't been able to test it at all. Doesn't seem reliable in any way.

  • Is there a list of currently supported gamepads?

  • The gamepad object doesn't detect my gamestop xbox 360 controller nor my PS2 controller... Also GamepadID returns a string with manufacturer and model..what about the controller number (1-4)? Doesn't look like this is ready to use yet :T Also it doesn't look like you can arm key codes with a gamepad either..hrrrgg.

  • So I was thinking of making a little game like TowerFall (multiplayer battle game) when I realized...C2 doesn't really have gamepad support nor can it distinguish different input devices, correct? How would one go about this?

  • That's not going to work. You're essentially moving the entire floor which will move enemies and collectibles on the same Y axis as your player. It's also nearly impossible to set any bounds that way.

    Here ya go :)

Let me know if you need an explanation or whatever.

  • I meant not using the save feature at all ^^;

  • Better off with dictionaries & webstorage :B

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I actually got it working by setting 2 PVs to TMXImporter.IsMirrored/Flipped then flipping/mirroring them in another event if they weren't. I'll check out the update though :)

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • I think I've unchecked "Show 'Add action' links" about 8,473 times since C2 came out. They nearly double the length of event sheets and make them harder to read. It also resets every time you open an event sheet. Can this setting be remembered? Pleeeeease?

  • I think we already know what the outcome of the poll would be >u>

  • I just meant Desura; I read on their site they don't accept games using 'game engines' or something like that, but that was a while ago.

  • "AAA indie game" is kind of an oxymoron lol. There are lots of ways to monetize games on the PC. Sell it on your own site via FastSpring, BMT micro, etc. or get on Indievania, Steam, Desura (not sure if they take 'game engine' games though) or license them off or go for ad revenue..the list goes on. Frankly I wouldn't even bother trying to monetize mobile games. Too late for that. Plus C2 games and mobile devices don't get along so well. Oh the irony.

There's also the OUYA but many consider it dead on arrival.

  • Yeah that'd be a nice little feature. In the meantime you can toggle a boolean and set visibility.
