I agree with the 'initial animation' setting. At the moment the only way t odo this is with han instance variable and an event.
It would be nice if you were a little more specific as to your problem - nobody really wants to go through all your code if we don't know the exact location and symptoms of the problem.

Are you sure you're doing it right? make the bullet go in smaller increments if need be but if you are using a while loop properly the hit will always be instant.

Make sure you have a break statement in there somewhere, to prevent an infinite loop.
