  • Thanks for answering my questions, I've bought one

    Awesome! xD

So what do you think so far? I just downloaded a bunch of games for it... I recommend the DOOM RPG, it's pretty cool!

  • Doppel to the rescuuuuuuueeeee!!

Hey just in regards to the timer question... I haven't tried it yet, but can you compare the timer to a random rolling value? So instead of every 5 seconds it could be every 5 seconds +- random value between say 1-3?

Just wondering how to generate a random number in other words...

  • Is it possible to use MSN somehow?

Is there a standard headphone jack?

Yep there is MSN and Skype as well... I think it depends what carrier you go with though as to whether you can get them to work. I bought the phone outright and got it SIM unlocked, and used my old sim card... I can't use MSN or anything like that but the GPS works and I can go on the internet and stuff like that.

The headphone jack is also a standard size, so if you break the headphones that come with it you can just buy any normal ones and they plug right in there.

The camera on this phone works best in natural light (as do most digital cameras) but it's not too shabby indoors and at night (though a little grainy). The video capture is where this phone shines though... records straight to MP4 at 640x480 30fps, uses about 10mb/sec of memory though so you would want to re-encode any captured video or get it off the phone and onto a DVD or something.

I was tweaking it more last night and figured out how to turn all the menus off of the main screen so you can have a nice wallpaper that's not covered up by repeated menu options. It also makes it less likely that you will accidentally go into some app like the internet and cost yourself a whole bunch of money without realising.

I also tried a video call the other day and it works great as well... there is a secondary camera in the front of the phone for video calls and for taking self portraits. The front camera isn't as good as the main one though obviously.

Out of all the other phones I was looking at, this one was the best in it's price range ($1200 AUD) and seemed to have the least amount of problems/customer complaints. I have had only one small problem with it so far when transfering data to the phone from the computer... the phone mysteriously locked up and I couldn't even turn it off, but after about 60 seconds the phone just reset itself and then it was fine.

I rate this phone (4/5 happy devils)

  • I'm either going to get this or the Samsung Soul..

    Few questions:

    Does it have wifi?

How good's the camera flash and picture quality?

How long does the battery last?

    Thanks

    Rich

Yep it has wifi, you can even stream media from your PC if you have wireless infrastructure installed. The camera flash will blind a possum from 100 yards, and the camera is 5.0 mega pixels with carl zeiss optics... very clean images for a phone especially. The battery is not bad considering what it runs.... about 160 hours of standby time and 80 hours of talk time. So far I have had to charge it up after 2 days because I have been playing with it constantly. Uploading to the phone seems to use a bit of power, writing to the internal memory must be very consuming.

So far, very impressed... best phone I have used, let alone owned.

  • Nokia N95 (8gb version)

It's pretty sweet so far... I have never owned a good phone of any sort, so I decided to treat myself with Nokia's best available model here in Australia and see what all the fuss is about.

It's got a 5 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and can record video at 640x480 at 30fps. I can also play those hideous N-Gage games on it, and it has GPS and W-LAN interface. The screen is a QVGA screen that can display 16million colours at 320x240. The internet browser supports java and flash playback which is cool... So far I haven't really figured out how to use it correctly, I've had it for like 2 days... I think I will try to put some custom content on it today, later on

If you are looking for a new phone, I can recommend the Nokia N95 (8gb version).

  • Awesome work everyone!

SoldjahBoy : Wow! Your Azarayah model is very impressive! That was done in Zbrush? I just learned 3dsMax 9 in school and we've been told about the almighty Zbrush and how powerful it is! Props on the face, that a is VERY difficult body part to do...lol..How does your wife feel about your style of women you do? *noting the nipple hint*

    Cheers midnight

Yes she was done in zbrush 2.0 from a quick sketch I made. I am relatively inexpereinced at 3D modelling but zbrush is so easy to use, it's like molding with clay or something... very intuative. Also, my wife doesn't mind... she understands "art" I guess.

    *EDIT*

BTW alee that's a pretty awsome cover mockup! Very interesting concept and well executed.

  • Well there is a difference between derailing and topic shift... I think the thread discussion is progressing nicely

My motherboard has an Audigy XS onboard... I don't get any weird interference or anything like that... it's perfect. I have to say I have never had problems with a Creative product mylsef, but I know a few people that have. Like anything though, no matter what you buy, SOMEONE always has really a bad experience (or three) with it... I guess in my case this would be Microsoft

  • I know how you feel, man, and it's hard to not become jaded when you're faced with the worst of it day in and out. Just remember feelings are just feelings, and you should set them aside on occasion to give to new things a worthy try lest ye be relegated to the abyss of outdatedness and longing.

But Creative Labs is my exception to that rule. Call me hypocritical, but there's a difference between making terrible software and actually SCUTTLING it post-sale.

LOL yes true, good point really... if I had a signature, I would put your post just now in it. I have to agree that Creative have the worst customer support ever... at least Microsoft are pretty good on the support side of things. A friend of mine has had trouble with a few Creative products over the years and the nightmares he has had trying to get it sorted with them has been staggering.

  • Yeah, don't worry about it. I really was just commenting on how most sci-fi and video games (shoot em up games especially) tend to model space ships after airplanes, when that really wouldn't work, and used Gradius as an example, although I could have easily used any example, even a movie like Star Wars (the X-Wing fighters) for instance.

HAHAHA didn't you know that George Lucas can do whatever he wants? He doesn't have to obey the laws of physics... he is George Lucas dammit!

  • Microsoft Sidewinder Pro = Best joystick EVER

  • hey that's pretty cool... the particles as well as the spaceship control... it feels really... spacey!

  • a lot of stuff

Yeah I'm not saying Microsoft copied anyone to make this thing... I was commenting that I'm suprised they didn't, and the fact it sucks so hard just makes me think that at some point they may well just try to copy someone else.

Personally I think Microsoft DO have a few good products, but the majorty of thier stuff has big issues... look at every version of Windows so far as an example. They never work right for the first 12-18 months at least.

Anyway, this has been dragged off topic enough as it is... it's more my personal feelings towards many things I have witnessed during my time as an I.T. technician and computer retail professional.

  • I just have issues with the morals surrounding it... people who offer open source projects do not usually intend for someone else to copy+paste it, rename the file then sell it for millions of dollars...

It's not that I "hate Microsoft" as such, I just hate anyone that takes advantage of things in this way to exploit it for thier own personal conquest/gain.

I still find it funny that Microsoft products are always full of bugs and extreme fail... I saw the official bug report from the RAAF base here in Adealiade on Windows Me (retail version) a few years back... it was 400 pages long.

  • AAAAaaaaannnnnd, there. Now that all the thoughtful conversation has ended, thus commences the obligatory hateful and uninformed anti-Microsoft rhetoric.

No offence Capt'n, but I've sold many a Microsoft product in the 15 years I have been doing so, and know quite simply for a fact that Microsoft do not have a single creative bone in thier entire body. MS Office is a perfect example of how to rip off open source projects and sell them for money... OpenOffice was around before MSOffice was on a Linux platform, and M$ ripped it off, icons and all.

My hate is not uninformed, nor is it even biased... I acctually don't like the fact that I hate Microsoft so much... but it's mainly driven due to the fact that they are the ONLY company in the world that can sell a defective product and get away with it... take Windows and the Xbox 360 as perfect examples of this.

Anyway, I still find thier futile attempt at making a "klick" product very humorous at the very least... I guess this is what you get when Microsoft does indeed try to make something without copying everyone else... that's why they end up just finding something better and buying it, or outright stealing it.
