  • If you make money or not is not up to C2. That's entirely up to you, and your game. People here have and do make money selling C2 built games.

Edit: Is it worth the money? To me, every cent and more. I love this thing.

  • lwgames thanks! Looking forward to seeing your game!

  • Oh yeah, there is literally nothing done in my game but the dialog and initial graphics. The battle system will be every bit as complex as most space games (targeting rooms, starving ships of oxygen, trying to puncture shields, etc). Basically FTL with real time movement, or star force gemini top down. It will have it's own unique twists as well as I plan on making it very dialog heavy and RPGish.

I saw space nomad, and it is also equally impressive from what I saw, I should probably pick up a copy. Thing is, I'd probably enjoy your game too I don't have the time resources to work on my stuff full time unfortunately, and I'm not an artist, so 90% of the art has been outsourced so far. If you've done all of this one your own, it's very impressive, especially such a short time!

  • Looks great! Kills me it is so similar to the game I'm developing and is further along, but that's life I think most space games tend to draw on the same formulaes though. I'd love to test it. Does this draw inspiration from games like star force gemini and FTL?

  • I normally don't freelance, but for the special case of the construct2 community, I am available to give quotes and estimates for programming your projects that need it. I am US based so my prices will *not* be competitive (fair warning) but will be fair.

    I can offer:

Server set up, configuration, and managed hosting

Drupal websites (set up and theming to match source artwork)

    Drupal modules

    JQuery, html, and css help/services

    Anything mysql or php

I can also help with SEO/SEM/Marketing.

I offer because construct2 draws in a lot of really good natured and talented artists who lack programming experience and I'd like to help out others who have the same goals of game development as I. I may be open to barter for equally valuable graphics, audio, or services.

Please PM me here if interested. All payment via paypal, c2c/w4 on request.

  • Thank you for the feedback !

I *finally* got build 1.0.0.5a live on the web at http://surolace.com/play

You might have to do a few voodoo chants to get chrome to clear the cache, but it should feature the new artwork in the commlink when plundering the planet, debris, etc. I added a sweet distortion effect to the new art!

If anyone runs this on a phone, is the text large enough?

  • Thanks for the advice DuckfaceNinja !

I've honesty found outsourcing work to India in general is fantastic. Not always the best quality, but when outsourcing I don't really expect AAA quality or I'd be doing it myself/contracting local.

Thanks so much! Bookmarked! Looks really active too.

  • I'm not familiar with deviant art beyond looking at photos, I don't see anything on the homepage for hiring (I don't seem to see a forum either?). How does that work?

  • As I said, it may be different in your area of the world or targeted audience. In many parts of the world schooling for children in that target range is socialized. I could see it being very effective in third world countries though as low cost devices come to market there, internationalization might be a good strategy for getting contracts with school systems that are not socialized.

And yes you do have competition. I know many people with children, and every single one of them has purchased an age appropriate software title on their behalf. I mean heck, we all played oregon trail and where in the world is carmen sandiego growing up among others.

Anyway, I'm not trying to rain on your parade at all, I think it's a great niche, and I too have done educational software for private companies. I just want to provide you with an alternative perspective that you may or may not be aware of. I wish you all the best all the same

  • I'm going to introduce myself too <_<

My name is Patrick. I am a middle aged web developer in the US. I like javascript, drupal, and long walks on the beach. I have had many failed game and business attempts in the past and I'm hoping C2 helps me break through that. I think I'd be happy if I sold 10 copies of a piece of software that wasn't written during work hours.

I have posted all over the forum. I'm not a lunatic, I just post too much. Hobby/home projects can be difficult when you work all day, so I come here to keep my eyes on the prize of finishing it. If I start to lose interest, with no current profit motive, it will die like my projects past.

My site is down currently, but eventually it will be redone: http://patrickavella.com

My soon to be DBA name will be http://roastbeastgames.com

My soon to be game will be http://surolace.com

  • Hello, I am a senior web developer of 15 years with specialization in Drupal and LAMP.

Will you need authentication service, or do you have an authentication service in place? This is necessary! Without session checks a hack would be able to upload whatever they want to your server.

I give estimates at $50 pr hr, with $150 pr hr for additional hours for late dev changes. PM me with more information if you are interested. If you need auth services I will not be able to do it within your budget. You will also need to provide a server or have me set one up.

  • [quote:3sbt6pd1]On the other hand, my apps are educational, I am also studying teaching, and have experienced teachers aiding me in creating apps that cater to the Australian curriculum(these apps are can be used for any curriculum).

All opinion, but you're going to be faced with a difficult market. I'm not sure how it works in your country but here in the US any sort of contract with a school district is usually big money. Sometimes it happens through an RFP process, sometimes it happens by district vote, sometimes district reps have power to do it. You will most likely not get those apps bought en masse via a school, rather individuals.

The market for education software is smaller than the market for game software. The market has been growing, but interest is not accelerating, leading me to believe it is either already saturated, or just not as needed.

  • But you can't fire bullets from basketball hoops.

Overman Unless you're in the ghetto, then basketball hoops make perfectly acceptable sniper towers.

  • I don't know how to do it, but just because things aren't complicated doesn't mean they can't be creative.

A user on another forum I go to made this:

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/210-game ... g/70105473

in 48 hours for ludum dare. It's almost portalish, but very unique in its mechanics (I think it got 6th place for creativity)

As for me, no clue. Even my small ideas are huge. If I could simplify my ideas more I might get more of them finished.
