  • C-7 As someone with no artisitc ability, I'm kind of awe'd by a lot of the artists here. Those god rays shining down from the clouds push me down memory lane pretty hard. It just looks all so smooth and polished! I find it very impressive (I'm almost jealous) that C2 gives artists such an amazing vehicle to bring their work to live.

Here is a screenshot of mine. I've been pretty much buying 100% of my graphics and modifying them to fit.

It's not even a fraction as mature as your game. Can I ask how long its been in development?

  • I spent some good time updating the waves in Courier along the beaches. They look worlds better--particularly in motion!

This looks pretty amazing, your graphics remind me of something like secret of mana only more modern. You can have my steam greenlight vote for sure

  • I once read a terrible book called (iirc) the four hour work week. Basically the book drones on about how awesome your life is when you outsource everything in it to cheap overseas labor. The book has some truth to it though, and it's a theme in a lot of "how to" business start up guides.

I don't have the hugest budget in the world, so I've been getting the majority of things from the scirra store, steam, and fiverr.

What types of places do you outsource work to, or do you go a step further and just hire contractors?

I would very much like to hire an intern (social media manager and/or web coder) to do the jobs I am normally capable of but can't get to because of my focus on the actual game development. I'd like to hear anyone's experiences with interns as well

  • HAVE I EVER MENTIONED I LOVE CONSTRUCT?

Just implemented the piece of art, and since I'm having upload troubles took some screenshots!

  • The first piece of commissioned artwork! yay! This is the first of 4-5 races, the bust will show in the commlink dialog when interacting with that race.

(attachment removed it was ridiculously large)

  • Naji "I'm trying to stand out and want people to know me more."

Just general life advice, never do this. This includes at school, at work, with dating, even going out to dinner. It's okay to stand out, but stand out for "something", not nothing. Never push yourself on people or force relationships with people. It is very off putting and shines through like the rays of the sun to everyone around it.

In general, "trying" to be known more will always make you known for the wrong reasons or even make you less known, the only way to become more known in a good way is to add value to other people's lives. So instead of asking about a favorite color, give help in the how do i forum, or if you really need to make topics, make relevant game discussions that are connected to game dev or c2 in some way.

  • How is this not a direct C2 competitor?

It looks like they're trying to appeal to both people who are upset that flash is being deprecated.

Javascript to java or c++ is sort of pointless. Unless they have some really cool optimization techniques, v8 is already pretty darn fast http://benchmarksgame.alioth.debian.org ... script.php

Best of luck to them, but that's definitely a direct c2 competitor imo, even after reading the kickstarter.

  • I seriously can not get it unstuck from my cache in chrome OR IE even though the correct files are on the server.... >_<

C2 caches too hard, how do I get it to refresh to the latest version? I am using the version system in C2

Edit, tried from a remote PC, the files must not have uploaded correctly. the Android apk works though!

  • So, pretty big push tonight, even though I can't seem to get the old version out of my browser cache (!!!)

New in 1.0.0.4a (version is in lower left on title screen)

    • Updated graphic for laser
    • First enemy ai type- enemies from plundering the moon now follow you
    • Demo enemies can be killed with 8 laser shots
    • Aiming reticules tweaked
    • Explosions and sounds!
    • Music reverts to whatever was playing before after enemy encounters
    • commlink unavailable with enemies present
    • super sweet space debris that gets kicked out when baddies explode
    • Fixed a bug where reticules weren't pinning to enemies properly

Overall I'm really happy with all of this progress in roughly one evening+night. I've been buying a lot of sound and graphic sources to make sure I'm keeping the quality up. I actually spent a good deal of time in audacity shaping the explosion and laser hit sounds to fit better with my vision. I ended up using the bullet behavior on enemies so I could take advantage of solid objects (preventing them from over lapping).

I'm very happy with the framework I've been building myself, and really look forward to when I'll be able to focus on content.

Weapons system is maybe 5-10% done

    enemies 5-10% done

    Rooms/Crew/Energy system 0% done

    menus/UI/stores 0% done

So what is done? I'd say the dialog system is like 80% done. If I keep at this pace I'll be done in a few months time and will have grown a significantly longer beard!

I commissioned an artist to do some artwork for alien profiles, should be cool! Eventually I'll need to redo a logo as well.

Updates/play links at the normal place, feedback always appreciated!

Huge thanks to Beaverlicious for taking the time to rastarize the PSD files for GIMP users! The problem resulted from GIMP not supporting the latest PSD layer effects and smart objects. Even rastarized the PSD looks great, is cleanly organized, named, and very malleable.

    Thanks again!

  • Free?

If you have tracks you want to sell, I recommend putting them in the scirra store, I've already boughten a handful there. If you got some spacey ambient tracks or battle-y tracks, lemme know.

  • It's definitely C2 (view source). I think the 3d effect is faux (2d objects) but not entirely sure. I do agree, very neat effect! It really doesn't feel 2d at all.

  • Thanks for the answers everyone

So far it seems like crosswalk android and nodewebkit apps are literally just an embedded browser with all of the browser's normal javascript API available. That's pretty awesome. It seems the only limitation is to be careful that your elements are responsive to window size.

Whats the issue with cocoonJS? I read it's being deprecated for C2. Never used it, but the performance on crosswalk is awesome so far.

  • The game industry has a history of being hard to get into and over working its employees (at least at the big studios). Game programming is a very "difficult" form of programming that is heavy in math and algorithms. I think it pays well, but I do not think it pays what it is worth. Other lines of programming tend to pay more and give easier workloads (less overtime and crunches). Not a definite rule but definitely a trend.
