I asked Clickteam to confirm if Fusion 3 will be subscription based as well.

One of the main developers (Marv) has confirmed that it will not be subscription based like construct3

    https://community.clickteam.com/threads ... post714137

They are already talking about what's going on here and bracing their server for the flood of construct2 users <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing">

So far the only hope for scirra is that construct 3 will come out a month or two before fusion 3, in that period of time if by some miracle they manage to change people's views on the whole license thing (which seems to be the main issue for most users here) - it might not be as bad

It will be interesting to see how things develop. I see that this community has a number of very loyal users and that the company has experience with going against the tide . hats off for that. I will be very impressed if this turns out to be a success! The technology itself is exciting- the editor being pure html5 makes a lot of sense and imo is a brilliant step towards making it run everywhere. I got excited about it running on mobile. But the price and the type of license still does not justify what we get from it, when you pit it against the competition - both game maker and clickteam fusion have a better deal. What else is in that editor that makes scirra so confident? It makes me want to wait and see what will be revealed.

I think that this voting thread would be more fair if you still had to pay for major version upgrades. Paying once for a lifetime does not make sense , but paying rent makes even less sense. I would rather vote for something in the middle - pay for major version upgrades that bring new features that are worth it. So pay once for 3, then pay upgrade fee to bump up to 3.5 and so on

Which is a better product, C2 or Fusion 2.5? Someone is another thread said C2 was better, but failed to explain why. Fusion 3 is looking very promising from what I've read.

Try running a business and not paying some bills.

Im sure you'll see a correlation eventually.

the general issues with the exporter options (and there are a lot...) that you have to use the third party, and one time works, and another times not.... and other stuff like that?

check the forum and you will see it...

I'm sorry you are having general issues with exporter options, but I was talking about the pricing model.

They can't do that with the current license.

    Do what?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

    Ugh... Check for what?

If they were about to go out buisness, and they asked you to pay more so that they could keep the doors open would you agree to that?

    Yes.

    Edit: Within reason.

I invested a lot of time learning C2, I paid for the license 3 times because I wanted my friends to use it, and I was expecting C3 to have the same pricing model as C2. I seem to remember Ashley saying in a interview the price would probably be similar to C2. It's a moral issue for me.

    >

it depends, I prefer to pay a year if I get a software that value that money (and every time improve) that paid one time and have the same problem as construct2...

ask everyone, if they prefer paid one time with the same problem of contruct2 or paid 1 time a year and have a software that works without any problem... you will see what will be the most answer

Sorry, I don't really follow what you are saying. What problem of Construct 2 are you referring to?

Musicians pay thousands of dollars in software and equipment to create music and I'm sure they'd easily trade places with indie game developers. We have it easy. Buy a computer, cheap software and start creating.

I don't think he said that at all.

Which is actually missing the point.

Explain it to me then, because it sounded like he was saying it's cheaper to be a developer than a musician, which had nothing to do with what I said. My point was comparing Spotify to C3 is not a fair comparison.

I'd much rather pay for tools that can help me create content that I could sell and possibly make a living from vs something i simply consume. Musicians pay thousands of dollars in software and equipment to create music and I'm sure they'd easily trade places with indie game developers. We have it easy. The fact that you would rather be a developer than a musician is irrelevant. You missed the point entirely.

I don't think they are open minded about this. You will either pay forever for C3 or you won't get full access anymore.

That's good to know. I must have missed that. Personally, I'm not too bothered by the change in pricing model.

Of course, I would prefer to buy it than rent it. But, as long as the new features are worth it, I will consider it.

Unfortunately, I haven't been "wow'd" yet with the information dribble. Hopefully, the coming weeks will change that.

I'm guessing that's probably why they are stalling... so you can be wow'd in the coming weeks!

    What we know so far:

    - Construct 3 Personal subscription will be $99/year. (cheaper than Spotify)

Spotify provides unlimited music at an affordable price, whereas C3 just provides you with the tools to create games. Consuming entertainment vs. producing entertainment. It's not a fair comparison and it's not helping anyone.

A better comparison would be to say C3 the same price as Stencyl and Buildbox, or cheaper than GameSalad subscription.

If Scirra loses 4 out of 5 users because of the subscription model, how long before they turn a profit from those that remain? Because it's all about the $$$ now.

Subscription model (or SAAS - Software as a service) now is a inductry standart in fact.

    Not
