Construct 3 Subscription Fee Or Buy (Pay Once) Vote

From the Asset Store
Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!

    i choose buy.

it pays once will better than subscription i think.

We all know that people will prefer the traditional licensing model over renting

I do not think Ashley and Tom would change what they already have decided on though.

Those of you who are against the subscription fee, just vote with your wallets and don't buy it - go to another game engine instead. If many people do that and start leaving the community, Scirra will start to lose money and will then consider changing the license model.

It's the only way to trigger a change.

    Agree with you.

But maybe when you want to change it is late.

I hear the toast at the offices of ClickTeam

I want to buy once, even if it would cost as 5 years of annual fee.

I think that is the risk they run, the community has been formed over the years since CClassic, if now half the community is leaving (due to this remarkable change), it will not return in the short term because they will already be with another engine and do not want to buy a new one (C3) in the event that the subscription is deleted.

If I go to another engine and learn it and have paid for it, I probably would not go back to C3 even if Scirra changed the model to single payment.

I understand that they want to be novelty but I guess this is one of the risks.

I think it would be much more than half the community that leaves. This vote alone shows that, but I would wager in the wider community it would be more like 70-90% Hobbyist game designers are absolutely the wrong audience for subscriptions and won't bite. Especially with other viable options about like clickteam fusion which aren't too difficult to jump ship to as the Construct paradigm was based off them. But maybe Scirra have done the math and having 10% of the current user base on a sub will be enough to sustain them? At any rate it's an incredibly risky move.

Their current customers are not generating new revenue for them, so losing them is not a loss to scirra directly.

It will however affect sales on their upgrade offer. A reduced community cloud affect the engine's activity - less content generated for it means less value for it's existing users, less popularity

We can only wait and see. We might be wrong

This Construct 3 Announcement almost knock me out. I wish you all the best but sorry to I am not paying no Subscription Fee... To show you I am not the only one who love Construct 2 and welling to BUY Construct 3 here goes guys let VOTE let Scirra see that we care:

Both. I think a balanced approach would be to put some features (which are a %$^% for Scirra to maintain) under a subscription system, while simple features which require little to no maintenance or extended support under a flat fee system. I am sure Ashley knows which is which.

I don't see why they can't adopt both. If I were to buy C3, I would wait for the desktop version anyway, and I wouldn't use their cloud service. My use of the product wouldn't cost them anything. I wonder if the reason they want to force users into a subscription is because they want to keep tabs on us?

I think scirra's biggest mistake with construct 2 is in releasing one single major version of it once - without any paid major upgrade fees

They have not even tried the annual/biannual upgrade fee model and are now jumping straight to the rent the trial of my software model that most people dislike

    Ashley and Tom

When we pay a fee for an upgrade, we know in advance what the new features are - that puts you the devs in a position where you have to convince us the new is better than the old.

In contrast, when you require the user to pay in advance just to rent the software - you put them at a huge disadvantage

Voting is probably pointless... But for the heck of it. Here is my vote, one off payment... like it has always been. It's the entire reason I chose Construct over GameSalad & Stencyl.

Doing it because they cant afford to pay to do a simple survey before making a price so i am offering my time for free to knock some sense in Ashley and Tom head

    Buy.

I simply CAN'T pay a subscription fee, even if it was $1/month. I can however make a one time payment.

Subscription model (or SAAS - Software as a service) now is a inductry standart in fact. and it's become a common delivery model for many business applications. Yes, it's a bit new for game dev, but not because it doesn't work, but because developers prefer add one digit to software version and sell Software++.

SaaS better for customer, mainly because all important updates implemented immediately, and developers not need to wait for next number relise.

It's also good for developers because it's more stable profit model.

I don't see any problem with subscription. 99$/y is a low cost for good game dev software.
