  • TheDom, thank you. I just googled it and am in the process of downloading the audio converter. Will test it out and report my results here later.

  • Hi guys,

I am now close to completing my game, only left putting the music in. And now I am hit with a problem in an area that I have limited knowledge in.

I've read through the manual and forums that I should import music as a wav file and C2 will convert them into the required files. Many also recommend Audacity, which I just downloaded and try.

The problem now is that when I convert, the files become very big. For example: a 5MB mp3 becomes 37MB when I choose the 16bit PCM version. When I import it to C2 it adds only 2MB to the download according to C2. I tried the GSM wav for mobile but C2 can't convert it to OGG and m4a. I reduced the rate until 16khz (any lower and the size actually increased or it wouldn't work), and I was able to get it down to around 1.6MB. But that is really still quite big for just one music track, especially when I will need to use at least 7 music tracks.

Right now, my entire project stands at 10.2MB, including the sound effects (used the sounds provided by C2), and all my images, which include a few large ones for the slideshow movies. If I don't do anything about the WAV files, it will easily double my total size, which is definitely not good for a mobile game.

Please do assist, I am so close to finally completing my game.

  • Hi guys, I was really wondering about the music and sound folder.

We have two separate folders for all audio. Music and Sound folder. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but these are what I understand:

1: Sound folder is completely downloaded to the player side (is it because it is usually smaller in size?), whereas the Music folder is streamed only when it is played (larger size?).

2: There are audio limitations in mobile games. Sound effects (sound folder I presume) works fine, but musics (music folder?) has a problem in that it doesn't work on the start of layout event. It requires a player to initiate a touch before it plays.

Based on those two, would this be a correct?

1: So it looks like the sound folder and music folder are specially for games that are hosted on a server and require constant Internet connection to play, like on Scirra's Arcade, since they are partially downloaded and streamed.

2: But for mobile games, that isn't the case since the player needs to download everything to play the game even if he is offline.

So am I correct to come to the conclusion that since the Music folder for mobile games require player activity to start, is it not better if we placed all audio, even the music in the sound folder since it doesn't share the same problem as the music folder? Or am I missing something?

  • Compared with the competitions, C2 is still at a steal!

  • Ldk, thanks for that. Perhaps we give it a different name and some different props to use as defence that it is a new character, while still keeping many characteristics so that people can instantly recognize it.

I've actually finished all my new character designs now. Hehe the Kratos version really came out nice I think.

  • PurohanPirilu, wow that link was really interesting! Haha it is so amazing that it was so simple, yet almost unmistakable!

thank you. Haha ya, it is in place to protect people, but just that some greedy lawyers are always looking for opportunities.

Actually, I am thinking of using a new approach. I was thinking of using famous human characters and adding their accessories to my robot character. For example, captain jack sparrow. Put some of his dreadlocks, moustache and beard and a bandana. While it is instantly recognizable (hopefully), it should still be significantly different because it is a robot with robot features still. I was thinking of going this way. So far, I only got captain jack sparrow, TMNT, and the Stig (hehe the racing helmet in case you didn't realize). I need 5 characters...so am still thinking of 2 more.......hehe might try to see if I can do a God of War Kratos version!

  • Haha yeah, I guess vader and iron man are pretty obvious candidates for lawsuits. I think the ultraman one should also be one. Ya, I am really confused about the halo one. The other two I think I can get away with......haha but I guess they themselves might not get much attention cause maybe not many people will be able to tell which famous characters or people they are from.

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • Nickorama, newt, roberto, PurohanPirilu, Grandpa, and everyone else kind enough to view this.

Since I most probably won't be using the designs anymore, I thought I might just post them here and see what you guys think. Sorry it's been a few days.

    This is the original design

And here are the others....hmmm.....see if you can guess each of them correctly, although that might not be too hard

Haha do you guys think I could possibly get away with using any? I think I could use the racing helmet...but not sure about the rest though....

  • granpa and , Hahaha absolutely brilliant!

  • Ya I guess you are right on that. In the hands of lawyers, even a 10% similarity will be made into a big issue. Guess I will have to come out with new designs and play it safe.

  • Yes, that's very true. I guess the million dollar question is to what degree of similarity can we create the characters that as you say makes it instantly recognizable, yet avoiding a law suit. I just got feedback from my lawyer friend and he says that there is no clear line or definition in this. I guess it depends on the personal views of the judges.

  • roberto, yup I definitely plan to.

  • Thanks Ya, it mostly seems to be the case. Haha people only get angry when you get famous, cause they only know about you that way.

Thanks, it definitely seems better to play it safe as it is still an infringement. Coincidentally, I just came back from a futsal session.....and found out one of our members is a lawyer, so I asked him about it and he said he will check and get back to me soon. What I asked him is, how much of a change do we need to edit before we are legally safe to use it. For example, 50% design changes or the color scheme must be entirely different, etc etc. Hopefully it might be something I can work with, or I will have to come up with 5 entirely original designs for my characters. Will post any update once I know.

  • Hi guys, I am not clear on this so I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this.

My game is almost complete now, and I am planning to release it on GooglePlay with income only from advertisements. My game has a section where you can change the character skin or design. The default character design is an original. The 5 others, well I am taking it from famous characters and modifying them a bit. Characters like Darth Vader, Iron Man and even UltraMan. The characters are all in a ball shape so it only has the designs of their head. Is this ok to have this in my game?

I notice that many games do the same, taking advantage of famous characters and people. I would like to know if there are any implications in doing this, or is there anyway around it?

  • PixelRebirth, thank you so much for this! You've helped a confused guy along. Haha soon will be fingers crossing time!
