  • Intel integrated chips are well known for being very problematic. Specially for them it's crucial to have the bleeding edge drivers. If it doesn't solve the problem then there's nothing to do i believe. These days the first thing i look in a laptop is if it has a dedicated graphics card. Even if you're not going to play anything and doing simple games, they're much more reliable. Even then i'm still coding in my desktop machine :)

  • Yeah Firefox has been somewhat unstable. Sad to see Firefox in this state.

  • Try Construct 3

    Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

    Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Well there's several aspects involved. Do you want to learn and then do your game, or you want to jump directly to doing your game ? If you go with Java, or any other language, you'll learn a lot, and if you're like me, have lots of fun. That process will take lots of time, even though it'll give you max flexibility. If you go with C2 you'll have your game prototype in days at max. Even hours. But you'll be limited by what Construct2 has to offer. Even if that is mitigated by the SDK. For your case C2 is probably enough. So you have to stop and think your priorities and what you want. I personally went the first path a while ago and only now i'm proficient enough to make a game in any language from the engine core code to the game. Even then i find C2 an invaluable tool. Yeah i could code a better suited Construct for myself, but that would take lots and lots of time, and the games i want to make would have to wait a long time. So i use C2 when it offers everything i need for a project and use my programming language of choice and my personal framework when the project is more complex. That's it.

  • So the problem is with your Graphics Card. What model is it ?

  • Looks OK here. Is it running on WebGL or Canvas ?

  • Ops. Yeah forgot that. But a right click -> show on separate window is not very good UX wise. Better option if i may suggest would be to embed it in the window and add play pause go last go next buttons.

  • Hi, Ashley. Some suggestions for the sprite editor in case you haven't them in the list already:

    1. Pencil: Add a pointer instead of mouse pointer only to mark where pixel will be:

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2472278/pencilpointer.PNG" border="0" />

    Either the left or right one.

    2. Brush: I noticed that depending on the hardness the brush can be more round or entirelly square. Maybe add two shortcuts to go directly to a circle brush and a square brush ?

    3. Maybe add snap to grid if one wants to draw in a size bigger than 1x1 This should be easy to add and really helpful

    4. Now that we can draw sprites directly an animation preview ? Really helpful too.

    5. Palette support. This can stay on end of list.

    Most of them are just usability improvements really nothing complex. Just the #4 and #5 could take more work. Really for pixel work the editor is practically perfect. Of course you're really busy but when you tackle the editor again consider them :D Thanks!

  • Some morons are saying : This will never succeed with some few million dollars ! These dumbs don't realize that the kickstarter campaign main objective is to analyze the demand for the product so that the surelly many investors can then inject the real money on the project. By now i'm sure they have a good enough view of the product demand :) It could yet fail terribly or win spetacularly. No one can know for sure.

  • About the Gamasutra article i can only say: Never write "Why X will fail" articles. But "Why X failed" or "Why X was a success" instead. It's MUCH more constructive (future prediction smartass articles serves not purpose other than raising flamewars and meaningless discussions). I hate, hate "Why X will fail" articles and people that write them. There said it :D

  • Ashley - That's changing fast isn't it ?. Most mobile hardware today can handle much more than that. The point is if it can handle so few because of the hardware or because of ludei not being optimized fully. Can it ever reach native performance at last 90% ?

  • Has anyone got any numbers about performance on CCJS ? Like stress tests with thousands on screen etc. I'm really curious about it's perf. I've seen tests with 300 particles with about 17fps that's really bad :(

  • Appmobi co-founder going to Ludei ? With this CocoonJS will rule supreme :D

  • Exactly.

    It's near to impossible playing games like Megaman, specially with it's level of difficulty. And yeah why limit Android for phones and tablets ?! Phones and Tablets can't just replace the old and perfect experience of playing in a gamepad in front of a tv or in a keyboard on pc. People tend to try to replace everything with a technology just because it's new , hype and 'revolutionary'. If it makes everything obsolete , which isn't the case, then ok. If not then it's a big mistake to try. Phones and Tablets are here to add to the playing experience not replace it all.

  • Well i think their business plans is much more than just bringing android games to the tv. It's the only justification for something like this. If not it makes no sense. There's already at last one or two android phone-to-gamepad-to-tv solutions. It seems most people want to play with game pads games that make sense playing on gamepads. Me included. 99% of the time playing with a game pad is much more fun than with touch screens imo. Touch screens are great for interface manipulation, navigation, etc. There are very few games that really are touch based and fun. Emulating D-Pads and Buttons on the screen is a joke;

  • Alomost 3 million :O With 28 days to go this could reach 10, 20 million or more easilly. Most successful project i've seen on kickstarter for sure. With this they're asking what enhancements people wish to the project. Better specs is one for sure :D Really with that money they've got total freedom.
