  • computers are way smarter,or way stupider than humans depending at how you look at it.

    a modern computer can do operations at a speed humans could never match, our brains dont perform calculations like that, they just cant.

    a computer is smart in that sense

    but a computer could never make abstract descisions or come up with ideas like a human mind can, it needs rules and order.

    emulating this type of intelligence isnt efficient, and doing it wouldnt be the right way to go about it. youd need to invent a new type of computer imo.

    comparing computers and brains is like trying to make a car walk, it cant really be done. its a task which needs a device designed to do it for it to be possible.

    a rat isnt extremely processy, running all the neurons and such through a computer is. a rat only thinks about food, water and safety, it will only need to interpret its vision, the only difficult task, which cant be done by computers right now since no easy way has been created.

    i dont know but AI is a long way off, autonomous robots arent ai, they just do predeterminded stuff based on a few situations that they know of. a real AI would need to form ideas for itself, which computers were never designed to do, all they can do is move numbers.

  • exactly, if you look at any programming language its set up so you scroll down and up, you organise your work so that its this way, even though you could make it a single extremely long line.

    this is probably why construct does it this way, its a tried and true method.

    the most technically advanced, fun, and just plain awesome platformer I've ever played by far is littlebigplanet for ps3. god that game rocks

    ok aside from big-shot high budget games is what i meant. lol

  • you have to realise when youre being a bit too paranoid, i myself know exactly how you felt about posting that, you didnt want people to see everything youve done for wtv reason, but if you do that your only holding yourself back, you gain alot of respect from the community if you share your ideas and such, and you will also get alot of helpful feedback on how to make things more effecient or better, from individuals who have ideas you never would of thought of, due to the way we all think in our own individual way, and sometimes wont see the more obvious answer, because we dont respect what i call the"keep it simple, stupid"rule.

    if you share your ideas, everyone will be more open to share their ideas with you, and they themselves post caps.

    nobody here is out to get you and going to steal your ideas, and its not like your posting anything advanced in the dev of your game, a few open source caps at alpha stages wont make you lose anything(most ppl here wont get what youre doing anyways)

    if you do post exes to get help, make sure you tell ppl a bit about what youre doing, and dont put strenuous graphical effects, because they cant be disabled.

    I post alot of cool stuff i make OS, and people know me for that and the things ive introduced, it feels good. Dont feel you have to post Caps or anything, just try to be a lil bit more open, and less paranoid about idea theifs (grr i hate those)

  • that fancy pants game isnt bad control at all, and hardly the worst platform game ive ever played. probably one of the most technically advanced platformers ive ever seen, and for a flash game its actually amazing that it was even possible.

    the animation is hella smooth, the character has lots of abilities, and he reacts extremely realistically to his enviroment.

    i love ms sam, even though hes shit, you cant help but love his stupid voice, and those lovely soisoisoisoisoisoisoisoi sounds he can make.

    you dont need to be so protective of your work, after all you did get this idea from a cap i posted.

    did you use beziers to animate it? or something different?, and what do you mean by animation package?

    making the thing walk is by far the hardest part. you need to find out where hip placement should be, and thats one of the hardest parts to make it look good. you also need a terrain solver, which is real processy.

    the application i built my walker for was only meant to be used on the main character, since its really heavy. the other enemies would be only a bare bones version with simple terrain solving and such.
