I have updated the game go check out the update and tell me what you think.

still quite a few problems when you start a level there is this little black box and sometimes when I press to jump I end up at the menu for no reason also at the start of the level, there is a turtle shell which falls from the top of the screen may I recommend you give the turtle shell the command if offscreen destroy also I still had problems with the slanted platforms I seem to fall off before the platform end your collision polygon should look like this

  • UPDATED26/0517 ok everyone said it was 2 hard so I implement a lives system now you can die 3 times before you restart the level

Death from Above is my attempt at creating an arcade shmup game taking inspiration from classics like steel empire and gigawing

This is awesome! It remember me about Nausicaa, so nice (read the manga and watch the movie, it worth a try)! You're thinking in use sprite lamp or some type of shader? It deserve a good shader.

thanks man I have never heard of a sprite shader before I will look into it also way ahead of you on the Ghibli thing Laputa Castle in the sky is a BIG influence on the art design of the game

  • so my new game is Death from Above

Ok, this is what I made today the idea is the players airship can reflect bullets with the force field and if you're wondering the giant hand the train is carrying is foreshadowing the end level boss and no the train is not flying I have not made the bridge yet.

  • Right first of the good stuff you are getting better at game making I can see an improvement over your other games and the idea of unlocking levels with money is quite clever.

Now for the constructive criticism. What is the shape of your collision boxes for your platforms because I keep falling off the platform when I should not whenever you import a sprite into C2 be sure to press the collision polygon button when it comes to platforms it is best to just use simple squares.

Also, you might want to look into using tiles being forced work with squares might help with your level design because platforms which were next to each other where slightly misaligned it is not a big deal, but it makes the game feel a little unpolished. also make sure the lava pools are behind the platforms otherwise it looks alittle odd. At the start of level 2 there is a turtle shell that falls out of the sky for no reason.

Now I know it must seem like I am being hard on this game it is just I think with a little polish this game could really stand out

  • parfum why are you copying my posts though? It's creepy to say the least.

I thought I read that before

  • I started on a new project today spent the day drawing sprites I plan to create a Steampunk shmup like steel empire if anyone remembers that game

  • I know the response was back in October but I needed to take a big break from game making for personal reasons and now I am back, I have spent the last hour trying to follow this tutorial

unfortunately it has me stumped I was trying to follow it, I created an array, then a global variable, then I renamed the animation of my gun by adding the name ID_ just like it said I should but when it told me to write this line of code

    "ID_" & Arr_weapons.At(X)

construct 2 won't reconise the expression X construct 2 won't recognize the expression X does anyone have a capx with a working weapon pickup system I can look at?

  • Looking good everybody!

Been working on a platformer inspired by a weird combination of Dig Dug and Ecco the Dolphin. I don't have a title yet.

Wow, just wow, great concept, great sprite work so impressed

  • thanks aton for the positive feedback everyone I have the next few days of work so I am going to knuckle down and get some serious work done on my game

  • hello everyone I would like to create a system where the player has 9 weapon slots and as he picks up a weapon it will automatically be assigned to the next free slot so say the player has a knife and a pistol that is weapon 1 and 2 but if he picks up a shotgun that will become weapon 3 and if the player presses the next or previous weapon buttons they will go to the next available weapon. any help would be appreciated

  • thanks everyone, sorry for the delayed response I have been super busy with work so I have not had a chance to work on this game for a few days, but this is what I have made so far

I am posting it here because I have questions how many sprites can I place on a map before everything starts to slow down right now there is not too much but I am afraid if I put too much it in the layout the whole game will slow down are shadow casters more taxing on the framerate? one of the big inspirations for my game was system shock, I ideally would like a map like this

but if I have to I guess I could break it up into small layouts and just connect them

  • I am having fun drawing these floor sprites

  • PrinceofMars This looks really nice, the dead bodies make me smile for some reason, haha. Looks like something I would play.

thanks buddy the game is called Pixel Shock

  • Pixel Shock is a top down horror, action game taking HEAVY influences from Teleglitch and System shock it was created with the Top-Down CGA Shooter template made by Cédric Ricci I have not been working on this long but I wanted to show off what I had created. Since I have only been working on this for a short period of time nothing about the game design is set in stone I might include puzzles like hacking doors or I might just make is a plain action exploration game if you have any ideas feel free to post them in the thread.

Also, if anyone is familiar with my other game Reload don't worry, I am still working on it, I just got a little burned out and needed a break so I decided to start this 2nd project
