  • Are you looking for any specific type of artist, for example... A Pixel Artist or A Vector Artist?

This would probably be really good information to include =]

  • Any chance we could get the other stuff too? :3

Yes, I will update the post with some new links containing the other stuff soon, give me a day or so to get it all sorted out =] (I've been extremely busy lately =\)

  • Thank you!

I checked them out but found them too advanced and too much for an "art subject" to be used in my computing classes. The installation of plugins is also time consuming on a school network.

The plugins are not a requirement, but more to help act as a guide, you can just as easily distribute the 'grid' that you create on your personal installation and the students will be able to follow along?

  • pixel perfick I just download and try fraps and it works fine :D thanks a lot for replies

I didn't realize you were trying to record gameplay :P

  • Hey guys, I need a vIdeo capture software that can record smoothly. I already tried CamStudio, Screenr, NHC or something like it and Camtasia.

Well if you have tried those and haven't found them to record "smoothly" have you thought about looking at your computer's specs?

Camtasia Studio in my opinion is probably THE best screen recording software out there, if not, it's most definitely one of the top three. When I use it, it records perfectly fine.

Sometimes depending on your settings when you render out your recording it can look a little choppy but that is due to compressing the file size down and such.

What are you trying to record?

  • Try Construct 3

  • Patriick at the moment I only seem to have you genuinely interested in how the the game is progressing, thanks for that by the way...

so the thought of losing dev time to make notes ect has been left at a passing thought, it's also not usually the way I work...think bull in china shop...lol...I will probably start a thread though...

I will definitely finish the game by the way...

Is your offer of the rest of the frames for the space dude still open by the way, I'm starting to think a bit more about the overall final look of the game...

Yeah, the offer is still open, I've been a little busy outside of my computer work lately and such and I will be working on two things but I can squeeze some time in to finish up that sprites animations over weekends and possibly and hour here and there, chances are you will need a few more animations than just the run though?

I think that Mineet is right, you should start a project thread where you post the updates and such in the other forum section, some people may be genuinely interested but just checking the progress and being anti social :P lol

I'm sure once the project is a little further along the way and people start to see things coming together there will be further interest too!

  • I'm beginning to see why there are so few of this type of game, being developed, out of all the games I have done this is by far the most challenging, the side on view compounding that due to units being able to overlap each other, can be quite a nightmare, but also finding it the most satisfying...

I was considering starting a dev log, but I'm buzzing with ideas and in the "zone" at the mo and don't want to be distracted while that is the case...

You can always make small notes and progress shots or example builds and then kind of explain them on a blog later though, I am sure that would help a great many people out =] I would like to read it that's for sure!

I can tell that this type of game would be hard, I hope you see it through though, it will be good to see someone create a nice RTS with Construct =]

I've been trying to figure out how to respond to your post and although I'm still not quite sure what I'm going to write, here it is:

I guess I can understand what you mean. It feels weird and maybe even a bit like cheating when you're doing something you love, helping people with it and getting money for it as well.

But I don't see anything wrong with making money with your talent and the skills you've had to learn to use your talent. I live in today's world too, but a series of unfortunate events can sometimes lead to a different life (and a great couple of books :P). People have pushed and stimulated me to go on doing what I love most "Create" and although I myself had to get over the fact that I couldn't see it as "art" anymore was glad I still had my "creations".

Knowing that "normal" work would mean a lot of obligations I wouldn't be able to meet, I've decided to just offer my services for free. Less stress, more gratitude. Luckily my family supports me in this decision seeing how it makes me feel better. Without the support I get from home I wouldn't be able to do this.

Ok, guess that's about what I wanted to tell.

Don't know and honestly don't care if it makes any sense the way i wrote it, but that's were I stand today.

    -

I've already recieved a lot of great response to this thread and a similar one on facebook where I offer graphic design for small bussinesses and NPO's for free, so If it takes me some time to contact and or help you, please be patient, thanks a lot!

    This response was fine =]

It's always good having the support of your family, I think this is a great thing that you're doing...

  • LittleStain - I honestly wish that I could get away with helping everyone for free with my art, I really enjoy it and love learning new things, gaining experience and seeing what people can use the art for too. Sadly though I cannot 'exist' without money to live in today's world and it forces me to have to ask for money in exchange for my services (art skills) which saddens me at time...

You're doing a great thing here, I help out whenever and wherever I can afford to :P but I just hope the further through my career I get the more I am able to offer such 'free' assistance to others. I'm real passionate about it and money isn't what drives or fuels my ambition like most people nowadays.

Good Luck, I look forward to seeing your portfolio build up =]

  • Also implemented a resource system that I have certain units gathering and fetching, that's working well..so yeah productive week really...

This right here is the kind of stuff I want to learn how to do :P lol

I was going to just create these graphics for a project I have in mind after the one I'm working on, but instead I decided to make a tutorial series on them instead, simply because I don't know how to create such a game within Construct yet and I was hoping that, someone might see the graphics and my little note at the end of the tutorials that I was going to write up :P

The note would basically be asking if anyone could or would attempt to take the art and create a few mini tutorials on how to get started with such a 'village simulation' type game, with all that resource gathering and building placement related stuff =]

Currently though I'm just dividing my time up between a project, the tutorial series and freelancing.

I too already searched around for RTS related stuff and there really wasn't more than a handful which kinda sucks but it's good too, at least for those who do end up creating such games with Construct :p

Also... Cool about the project progress I actually really look forward to seeing this project come to fruition!

  • How's the project coming along by the way?

  • Patriick how's the tutorial going?, not seen you online for a while, maybe due to the awful speed of the site while the server was switched...

The tutorial is going well, I have the first part completed and was working on the second, I tried posting it but the site was screwing up a lot and not allowing me to do so for a while. It seems to be working fine now so tomorrow I'll be reading it over and publishing the first portion of it.

I don't know exactly how many 'parts' it's going to be but for now I see it as being on going for now =] I think it's the best way to get it out, release in parts until finished.

Thanks for the interest and yeah that's why I haven't been around for a while :P

  • Looking forward to your tutorial. Sounds like you have a lot planned for it and will be putting a lot of hard work into it!

I've tried posting it from that day I said I would but I keep getting errors and the site is going SOOOOO slow for me, I do have a lot planned for it and I'll be putting a lot of time in to it too, I even think I might do the detailing parts with video to better aid the explanations and such but I won't be posting it until the site is fixed up because I've tried so many times and the connection to this site right now is horrid!

    [Update]

Just working on uploading the images for the tutorials and formatting it for the site, it should be up and published VERY soon, just have to take care of a few other things too...

  • Jaysin86 - I will be publishing the first part of the tutorial series today where we create the building blocks or template tiles for the isometric map pieces, the second part will contain detailing them and making the pieces look less cube like =]

  • Jaysin86 - I've made a lot of progress on the tutorial over the past few hours but I won't be publishing it just yet. I've covered a lot already and I know that you will like it, based on the tile sheets that you've already sent as an example in one of your previous posts, so just be a little more patient and I should have it done soon.

I will post here to let you know when I've published it, I probably could get it finished up today but I need to go and get some other stuff done =\</p>
