  • Actually there is a hotkey editor but when you look at the run button, (only 1 option) it says there is no hotkey.

(customize quick access toolbar/more commands/keyboard shortcuts: Customize)

Ashley I know it seems frivolous, but think of reviewers just glancing at your editor, don't you want them to see those amazing options? Right now your preview options are weak, unless you know they are secret.

I was going to suggest run layout, run preview, a checkbox to select run continuous, and a hint of running on LAN, but then I noticed this thread.

There is no mention of hotkeys in the program. I had forgotten about the run continuously, (hold shift while clicking run-- Anyone having trouble getting this to work?)

And for those suggesting two buttons, there are 6 types of preview to run

  • I personally don't like the idea of expanding options affecting all properties of all objects.

nevermind, I get what you mean now. They don't save their state. (I'd prefer a global state over none at all.)

edit: I do agree double clicking an object in the object window should open the editor. I miss that convenience doubleclick myself.

  • I said it was a start, don't test that capx as is, he is erasing and redrawing all the sprites every tick.

But yes it would not only put a lot of sprites on screen, but many overlapping areas of transparency.

  • For creating a sprite font without a plugin check out the very simple solution in this thread by immigrantsheep:

He came up with the start of something pretty decent.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • In the past I have checked if the mouse is below an allowed area, or in a range, that way it can only choose those on the map. Or I have also given the sprites boolean instance variables like "Selectable" and if that one is false you can't select it.

You can set individual instance variables to different values in the editor.

    edit:

In other words, when a sprite is clicked, check to make sure is above the menu.

or if the instance variable "IsMenu" is set, allow the click on the menu.

  • Until then, in the Events tab is a search box. It hides all events that don't mention your Variable name (search term.)

Or, go to where the global is set, rename the variable "HEREIAMxxxxxxxxxxx" then rename it back after you found them. <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

edit: just tried that, and "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII" is easier to spot.

  • Dubious.

Just joined to post this, named Unknown, saying try the competitor?

Sorry Unk, if you are real, Construct2 has gamemaker scrambling to redesign, If you already have gamemaker, be happy they are improving.

  • All events fire every tick, except for trigger events.

You don't really need "Every tick" event.

That is what is happening, it actually says in your image "(play from beginning)" Which fires 30 to 60 times a second. Your animation restarts every tick.

  • Maybe add a second condition to the "Letter is down" event, where it checks to see that the animation isn't already playing?

(that way it won't restart the animation every tick?)

  • Ok, your right, after rebooting the machine, I can't get it to do it anymore either. Must have been a windows problem.

(I see a flash of ghosted, but it clears immediately.)

  • We've always known you were Hyperactive Random.

    Tom I think I see a glitch...

I noticed a jump in my ranking and went looking for the reason, and saw I got "Active" today.

But when looking I noticed my name is up 9 times in a row on the "good comment" badge recent list. (RandomExile is the only other person in the list with 6 in a row.)

    http://www.scirra.com/badges/27/good-comment

I had though when this happened people were cheating somehow. But I haven't even made but maybe 3 comments in the past month.

I suspected people might be getting points by upvoting old comments, but then there should be more people in the list.

Also, I think i had 6 or 7 of those badges, now it says I have 9, maybe I got one, and it posted all 9 to the recent list? (sounds very logical, since I'm in the list 9 times, just thought of that.)

  • Link to .capx file (required!):

    Glitch in editor

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Open Animation editor

    2. Select the "Rectangle Select" tool

    3. Right click in "Animation Frames" window

    4. notice almost all options are ghosted, even though they work if you click.

    Observed result:

I keep getting tricked that an option isn't available.

    Expected result:

That add, duplicate, import, etc. shouldn't be ghosted.

    Operating system & service pack:

    win 7

    Construct 2 version:

    r132

  • Ashley did add a way to put a row of transparent pixels all the way around the image. Hit crop in the editor with nothing selected.

However it adds the row of pixels to the size.

Edit: Actually I believe Ashley already has requests for selecting the origin point of the tile, which would allow you to move it up a pixel.

I always liked that idea because infinite scrolling backgrounds would be easy if you just cycled that number.

  • What didn't work for you?

    I added

AFont2 | Pin Pin to Sprite (position & angle)

to the end of event 7, and it followed just like the text.

It should be pinning the newly created letter to the sprite, so they all get pinned individually.

  • The tiled image always has a row of anti-aliased pixels along the edge between solid and transparent edges. I doubt Ashley ever wrote anti-aliasing code, I believe it happens in the graphics card. (Anti-aliasing has come a long way since early games.)

Outside the game your image holds the source data to tile. During runtime your image size is a window showing a piece of that infinite tile.

So you have to see that anti-aliased row somewhere, your choice, transparent row at the top, or at the bottom.

If you go over the power of two, the image will be stored in a bigger PNG file to fit the extra row.
