  • How are you checking to see if they update? If you are not refreshing a text box or something with the info, then it might not be showing an accurate number.

High score is pretty easy. I have a tutorial on doing an arcade style one, you can build off of it to do a top 10 or something. In fact, I might just do a tutorial on a top 10 local high score table.

    Arcade Style High Scores

    Thanks for the tutorial!

I have the score and health on the screen, but they don't change. The health goes down when the hero dies and I used the exact same score and health as in Athlete, so I don't know what's wrong.

  • How do I make a scoreboard in-game? Like in the arcade Donkey Kong:

    <img src="http://www.flyingomelette.com/reviews/n64/screens/dkscores.jpg" border="0" />

And how do I fix the following problem?

    <img src="http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7651/capturemqw.jpg" border="0" />

The sprite gets destroyed, but the points and health actions don't take place. I put the points and health actions before the destroy action and after the destroy action: both times, they didn't occur.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Thanks for your help everyone!

  • nickkname - if you click the about icon in the top-right, does it say you're using r128? If not, you don't have the latest version.

I must have downloaded the wrong beta because I downloaded r128 and it works now. Updated my game.

  • Did you try downloading r128 and submitting with that?

The error message is telling you exactly what the issue is unless you already have todays release of Construct 2 installed...

I have the latest version and it doesn't let me update my game

I'm not sure if it's my browser but still it's a shame

  • I got this error message when trying to update my game:

"All arcade submissions must be made with the latest release of Construct 2. The current latest release can be downloaded from here:

    Download Construct 2 r128

Please download the latest release and re-export your project and try again!"

My game is in the zip file from Construct 2 and is 2 MB.

  • Did you only try once, or have you tried to re-download the file? It could have been some intermittent problem that may not occur if you try again.

I tried again and it worked this time :)

  • I tried to download the latest version but the file is corrupt. It says it can't be read. I'm using Firefox and Vista.

  • I don't want a plugin or create a plugin, just want to create a leaderscore. I imagine it would be similar to creating game score, right? Cuz I got that down pat.

  • How do I make a sliding puzzle that the computer solves, or at least shuffles the pieces around, like here?

  • Because game makers structure is very...distinct. There are so many options to choose, where you can input the code. It's not that logical and easy as in Construct, where I know, it reads my code from top to bottom in the written order. In GM every single object has its own 4-5 options where I can input code. Can't describe it, because I don't understand it.

I already posted the demo >here<.

Maybe someone else will port it. I like the demo because has working collisions and is less cpu intensive.

Game Maker was a pain for me when I tried it, but I'm not that much into coding myself.

Thanks for the link! The graphics look like they're from Mario & Luigi. Hopefully someone will demo it soon.

  • I tried to make an isometric game a while ago with r0j0's help. His isometric sorting algo was very good, but a little too cpu intensive with too many objects on the screen and ontop of that I hadn't collisions working also :/.

I found a really interesting game maker example here:

    Link

You need game maker installed to open the gmk file.

I let a friend compile it. I uploaded it to my dropbox -> Link.

I looked at the sourcecode via gmk file, but I couldn't port it to C2 :/

    Maybe someone else could.^^

edit: arrow keys to move and z to jump

Why not just copy the code as closely as possible?

  • Cool topic Nick, I like a lot of those tracks.

I keep coming back to this - the OST from Chrono trigger.

For something a little bit more recent - the OST from Unlimited Saga.

This game was very under-rated imo and the music is phenomenal. Perhaps the best music I have heard in a game.

Chrono Trigger has some great tunes :)

I never knew about US, but that music is fantastic!

  • I didn't say you couldn't make specific Christian games, like those popular Moses and Jesus games on Facebook. You could make a game about the Acts of the Apostles or Martin Luther King Jr. or the Laogai.

  • Whether it's your most favorite music, your favorite sad music, your favorite athletic music, and/or your favorite joyful music, every gamer his favorite tunes: so share 'em here, so others can enjoy them too!
