  • I could be wrong, but I think he's more interested in a taking any still image, and converting it to animate-able puppet, not necessarily creating a silhouetted image

That's correct. I checked out Crazy Talk last night: http://www.reallusion.com/crazytalk/

^^^ that program is really something. I'm about to get into bones with Construct and I'm hoping I'll be able to do something as smooth with Construct as what I see with Crazy Talk.

  • There's also graphics gale for pixel art animations. That's what I use. What do mean by static character though? I'm not sure I understand. I think what you mean is just traditional animation of a sprite, (no segmented body parts, just pure frame scrubbing of a single sprite) correct me if i'm wrong. If you want to make a nice looking run animation for that silhouette your going to have to redraw the frames by hand.

Or do you want to bake a bone style movement by cutting that image up into limbs and animating them like a doll?

I probably should've explained that better. I meant just one frame of a character/model.

  • File object, execute file action. Put in the url as the parameter.

    Ahhh, file object! Thank you!

  • Some months back, I read an example of how to click something in a layout and it will bring up a webpage. I actually did the example and it worked great, but now I can't remember what I did (lol) and unfortunately I can't find the example thread in the search engine.

Anyone know how to do this? I tried using the download object to do it, and then again with the HTTP object, but I can't get it to do anything.

  • Maybe it's been said, but support for html within apps would be great, so we can put html links inside.

And dunno if its possible but transparent background for app, so you can see the background of the website if specified, but that's secondary feature.

I'm with you on the HTML. I could've sworn there was an example posted for C.0x where someone posted a way to make clickable links... I infact recall doing the example myself and it worked great.

Personally, I'd like greater HTML and webpage type functionality for no other reason than being able to create ad-supported games with more robust ads.

  • I found out that if I try to load an image in the picture editor, that is bigger than my system's/monitor's resolution, it simply won't load. The same way if I resize the picture editor's canvas to a size bigger than my system's/monitor's resolution, the canvas immediately gets cleared. I'm using 1024x768, so if I try to load or make the canvas something like 200x769 everything gets cleared.

I changed my system's resolution to a bigger one, and was able to load bigger images. However when I changed my resolution back to 1024x768 construct crashed.

Is this happening to someone else?

I have a similar type of problem. I have an issue where if I bring in a large sprite (say, anything greater than 800x600) the top part of the sprite becomes distorted very badly to the point that I have to delete the image and try to load it again... but it almost never comes in right, so I have to restart Construct and hope for the best that it will finally come in. My monitor runs at 1920x1080, but if I try to load an image above 800x600, distortion is guaranteed and the sprite is no good.

I went and tested the same images in MMF2, and it loads really quick and there is never any distortion. Also, Construct will automatically crop any image larger than 4096x4096, but MMF2 doesn't. MMF2 will allow the image to load fine in its entirety. That said, I hate MMF2's system so I can put up with these minor issues in Construct. I just hope what we're talking about are known issues that are being worked on.

  • So how's development on the xna runtime been going?

  • Actual working example, save now working. (includes sprite-sheets)

    Nice work!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

    > Is there any way you could make this app go both ways? For example, making it possible to turn animations into spritesheets that are compatible with xna? Gamemaker 8 exports spritesheets, but I'm not sure about its compatibility with C# and xna. I've just started using xna and this would be so helpful, and I know a lot of xna users that are REALLY wanting this.

    >

I'm not working with XNA, but isn't there already some tools?

For example, Sprite Sheet Packer comes with an XNA exporter "which exports an XML file in XNA Content format" (quote from the description of the tool)

Thanks, tulamide. I wasn't even aware of that program. I'd used some others in the past and they never worked well so I guess I just gave up hope and quit looking for any more.

  • I wound up using the backup I'd made prior to the crash. I'm glad I did or I would've been screwed. As I thought about it, I figured that I added too many large assets to the layout and too many copies from other layouts. I'd had it happen before, but this one never went away so I'm going to be more conservative next time.

  • Thanks Lucid.

By the way, I saw your program, it looks really cool. I can't wait to see how the final program turns out.

  • I'm aware of the use of bones animation, but this is different. I'm wondering if people here are familiar with taking a static character like so:

    http://www.brianclopp.com/images/greens ... houtte.jpg

And then manipulating the image with an editor (Gimp, Photoshop) to do things like create a run animation, jumping, walking, etc.

What is this style of animating called? And is there any good software out there that makes it easier to do?

  • Not that they need the hardcore market, since they are #1 in consoles overall now. This sounds more to me like Nintendo is trying to deliver the knock-out blow and they're about to do it before Sony and MS can do a thing about it. Very interesting news.

  • I hear that a lot. Some people or countries seem to be blocked by imageshack :S

So true. And when that happens, you get around it by using a proxy. There are 10's of thousands of free one's to hop on (search on Google), so being blocked is really a thing of the past.

  • Whatever you do, don't give up. I would love to see this pan out. An xna runtime would be a Godsend.
