  • lucid, are you a Twitter user per chance?

  • What is wrong with simply using an universal Sprite object?

  • Genetically we're enabled to see Construct with our eyes and input the code with our long, sleek fingers. We've been born for Construct!

  • There is some Joomla tool that is nominated as the best tool for developers. I was like "WTF has that to do with development?".

  • However, it will load all textures of one sprite into the memory; if you use a HUGE sprite (with 1000 animations), they all will be loaded.

I'd suggest a compromise - collate theme-related tiles into specific sprites, say "forest", "mountain" and so on. It sure is a good idea from organizational side, at least.

  • Seriously, not the best place for Construct. It's a development tool, should've been placed with the other dev tools.

Well, it didn't get enough nominations for dev tools. This is the only category Construct is getting through.

  • Yeah, that's a known issue - when creating a new project, if you go to event editor before creating a sprite, it crashes. Simply add some object - mousekeyboard for example - before poking the event sheet.

  • Construct has a some level of 3D capability - it has depth, meshing, distort maps. It has everything you need to make a fake 3D RPG. You know Terranigma, the world view? That's all faked, no actual 3D engine. In fact, many games that seem to be 3D are faking it to some extend, as well.

You can make a Wolfenstein clone in Construct, if you just give it enough effort. It is a question of learning Construct's capabilities. Keep prototyping stuff and eventually you'll figure things out.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Don't be afraid to ask questions - this is what the forum is for. Each question you ask gets answered and stays here, readable by everyone who decides to dabble with SDK. So, yeah, you're in fact helping form a FAQ

  • Dial up? May I ask where do you live?

An alternative would be to get an USB stick or something, go to a library or such public place with broadband, download big stuff there and go home. Be sure to scan it for virus/malware - public computers tend to be riddled with them.

  • Draw a line. From the old to new position.

  • I would suggest prototyping the ideas you have, so that you'll be ready to get started on the big project with the stable release of Construct.

  • Pssst... there is Minimap object. Alternatively, once you know the ropes of Construct, you can make your own minimap with Canvas object.

As for the direction, I don't really get what you mean. But if you explore sprite properties (select the sprite with bullet behavior, the properties are on the left tab, scroll way down), you'll see a few animation options - no rotation, auto mirror etc.

  • Forsooth.
