If you not busy with something else, could you attempt this algorithm-

    http://properundead.com/2009/03/cave-generator.html

I mean the first one, in which the array is subdivided in each pass.

I've looked into this before and got nowhere with it. I'll have a look again though but suspect it's way beyond me.

I like these examples a lot!

After reading an article I found through abhilash2863's blog, I had a go at it myself. I tried to stick to the method as it was being described as closely as possible.

Also I couldn't resist and used the newly released Data Structures plugin to create the "miners", which seemed like a weird idea at first but worked out surprisingly well:

I didn't manage to get the cave completely cleaned up yet as you can see, although most of the cluttery parts have been eliminated.

I want to have another try at it, probably solely using the S plugin. Once I'm satisfied I will also post the cap.

    Nice one PixelRebirth

  • Thanks for the example Minor!

I tried to replicate the same thing, but using array. Here's my attempt-

No problem. Nice work I was going to do an array version myself eventually but never got round to it.

I'm going to go back to this soon an see how far I can expand it.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Expanded my prototype with deadeyes help. And also created 2 quick puzzle levels using the same mechanics.

Yeah, I JUST NOW recorded that! It's only about NINE THOUSAND YEARS OLD

I remember seeing this when I first discovered Construct. Still looks like a hell of a lot of fun. And mind bending.

  • Pretty fun game. I found a bug I think. I hit the reverse gravity thingy box and the roof was the floor but when I hit another reverse gravity box I stayed on the roof.

Would be nice if you could gain a little momentum and get away from the edge of the screen after getting stuck instead of staying at the edge till death.

  • Thanks Steven currently just using the cogs but will probably rotate them.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Here you go.

Player has platform movement but should work the same for you ski jump thingy.

Bar the fact that their seems to be no definitive goal, I think that looks pretty neat actually. You should totally come up with some sortof goal set for it (something to do with filling up the playfield with dots maybe or managing to get both linked creatures to a certain point before the lava rises with limits to how far you can stretch??).

    Thanks.

The idea was to get as high as you can (levels where going to semi randomly generated) before being killed by the lava or the level obstacles.

The dots were supposed to show were the little blue guy would go. You don't directly control the blue guy, don't know if that came across well in the video. He follows your last path (the dots & will be limited) and you just tell him to move and stop, that's why the other guy is red (stop) or green (go).

And the black strechy thing is the camera. The game screen should follow between the 2 characters.

Well I probably won't finish it time for the challenge but I'll try expanding it see if it fun. Maybe post a demo see what people think.

  • Thats pretty nice too, thanks thoughtzone. If I get any more submissions I'll rotate them.

Would be better is the plasma stuff was shades of green though.

Also this doesn't fit the theme properly.

I think I have have found the problem though. If you click and save the default header the image is 1300x400 but Wordpress asks me to upload an image 900x200.

So if anyone else wants to take up the challenge try a 900x200 image please

Dissapointed now I thought I was onto something interesting.

  • Excellent.

Thanks Steven no rush whenever you get the time

  • Well you did say you wanted a HEADer.

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/666516/mrheader.jpg

  • That looks great Steven.

Unfortunately it doesn't line up as it does in your screenshot.

I've uploaded it to my blog and is set as the current header so you can see how it looks. Also I found the option to turn off the header text via Wordpress so you could add "Construct Tutorials" & "Tutorials & Examples For Construct 1 & 2" directly to the header image.

Thanks for taking the time to make something
