If you build it, they will come.

I get that reference!! Because I'm old....

  • Given your examples, block breaker.

  • Do you have free graphics? And what are prices like for your other graphics? Also, if you don't mind, I'd like a bit more information so I can add a link in my game dev resource list.

  • I'm actually working on a sort of brick breaker game now in my down time. I love brick breaker style games. I'm aiming for a different style theme for mine. Hopefully it'll be fun.

  • Out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in starting some kind of group, or place to chat, for older game developers to come to? I don't mean it a replacement to such things as Scirra's forums nor other places like Gamedev.com. Just a place where older folks could come to connect with others and where they might feel a bit more of a connection on a personal level to others that 'just get' current circumstances of life?

I have been thinking it over the past couple of days and I can see a sort of support and encouragement type of forum to be a nice place. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested and use such a thing as well.

If so, what would be your ideal type of place? I ask because I pay for hosting that I don't readily use nor do I want to give up. It would be nothing at all to setup a subdomain out of the way of my current domain and put up a quick platform. Let it see how it see how it evolves and takes off from there.

  • I'm 30 myself. I'm in college now. I started later in life. If it's a passion, keep at it. It's easy to become disenchanted this late in life because of how young many of the members in the industry are and the rate at which games come out. It seems like it should be so much easier than it is. The talent out there is amazing. Keep at it though. Maybe we should start a community for older, newbie game devs.

  • I'm a fan of the old fashioned style power-ups, like multiball and such, but it might be really cool to experiment with lighting for effects. It has the possibility to make some pretty interesting eye candy.

I am so happy to hear this! I'm hoping it takes off and visual assets get flooded in the store. I'd be willing to pay for some good graphics.

  • No problem. I'm always happy to assist where I can.

  • I'm making one now. It's a top-down shooter in the vain of the original 'Call of Mini' but with some tower defense elements and possibly multiplayer. I've got a pretty food engine running to handle it but I'm a horrible artist so I've hit a stop there. It's taking a lot longer now.

I also second R-type. It's an amazing game.

  • Set the bullet speed behavior to a negative number and also set the 'set angle' option to no.

  • I really don't mean this to be a self promotion, but I've been compiling a list of resources for game devs. I honestly can't remember if there is anything like that or not but you could click through graphics links and see.

Pixel Prospector also has another really great compilation as well. Might be worth a dig through to see if there is anything there to.

At any rate, if you find something like that, let me know please.

  • I would assign numbers to each "prize". Like say, if you want one prize to have a 20% chance, assign it numbers 1-20. If a prize has a 10% chance, assign it numbers 1-10. Then have a random number generator pick a number, in this example between 1 and 100. Check to see which prize contains that number.

  • Gotchya. That makes sense. Are there any plans to do something clay.io-ish where I could use the plugin and SDk, and somehow, or eventually, use your information platform with games that I want to submit to Windows 8, Android, or other platforms?

  • So how does this work? I'll admit I haven't read anything from you site yet so I'm asking this with complete ignorance. Can we use the plugin with your API and post the game else where as well? Such as, could I use it, post my game on my personal website, and still have everything work?

Sorry, time is limited and it might be a few days until I can delve into your program.
