There are pluses and minuses to any engine so here's my list for C3 (note, not just C3 specific stuff but i put it in here anyway):
+ Really like the developers and their update speed is very fast. There's barely a week going by where there's not an update.
+ I like the browser based software aspect because i can work on my project from any computer. Whether i'm at my dayjob (naughty naughty... i mean working on my game there, not the job ), at school or at home. All it takes is visiting a website and logging in and loading my file from my google drive. It really DOES have a lot of advantages.
+ The event system is still quite brilliant. As someone who tried out almost every game engine under the sun i honestly believe, it doesn't get more intuitive or easy to use than Construct.
+ I love the live previews of effects and animations.
+ I like the JSON styling of character spaces with spritefonts.
+ REALLY easy to add effects and shaders. It's almost like using photoshop.
+ Image Points are really cool to easily spawn other objects without having to figure out the x and y coordinate ^^
+ Visual Array and Dictionary Editors are extremely cool.
+ Data handling in general is very easy in Construct.
- The image editor is VERY rudimentary and has some quirks to it. I would really love to see a nearest point interpolation option for scaling, which would be especially helpful for people using pixel art.
- I had it happen, that C3 suddenly said it was out of memory i'm not sure if that happens, when you execute your game multiple times and it won't clear the cache or ram or whatever but it happened like once or twice only so...
- Some Keyboard Shortcuts correspond to the browser and not C3 which is sometimes a bit confusing.
- Reordering Tabs is really weirdly done. It seems you can pull a tab only in the opposite direction and it's kinda hard to reorder them compared to webbrowsers.
- I still don't trust the dark theme, it seems to slow down C3 my 13" Macbook considerably. As soon as i deactivate it and go back to the normal one that doesn't happen. I know the 13" model are a bit on the lower end side when it comes to graphical power but i would still expect a webapp like C3 to run smoothly even with the dark theme on as everything else on the web does.
- iPad usage is kinda iffy. While it's a nice addition it couldn't imagine making a game on mobile devices even on something bigger like the iPad Pro 12.5"
- Mobile Preview works only around 50% of the time for me on different computers. Most of the time i get a session timeout or something.
- I think Developers should generally test C3 more regularly on Macs. They seem to be quite an afterthought but nonetheless, love them or hate them, they're still a very important platform especially for visual designers. I also see a lot of potential for C3 as an expanded prototyping tool for apps and so on but most designers there are Mac-based. The most used Prototyping Design Tool (Sketch) is Mac-only.
- I think C3 should get a lot LOT more 1st party behaviours and plugins but i think that will hopefully come after the new runtime
- I wish i could save project folder based stuff on my google drive via the browser app.
- Google Drive Folders are still shown totally messed up. It's like the structure of the drive is getting mixed up considerably it doesn't make sense. I'm still able to find the folder i'm looking for of course on my drive tho of course
Now, while it seems i listed more negatives than positives that's because all the good things from C2 carried over C3 and the best feature of the whole engine for me personally: it enables me to actually make a game
I would highly recommend checking it out, i'm loving it and can't wait to see what the future will bring
