  • There are pluses and minuses to any engine so here's my list for C3 (note, not just C3 specific stuff but i put it in here anyway):

+ Really like the developers and their update speed is very fast. There's barely a week going by where there's not an update. + I like the browser based software aspect because i can work on my project from any computer. Whether i'm at my dayjob (naughty naughty... i mean working on my game there, not the job ), at school or at home. All it takes is visiting a website and logging in and loading my file from my google drive. It really DOES have a lot of advantages. + The event system is still quite brilliant. As someone who tried out almost every game engine under the sun i honestly believe, it doesn't get more intuitive or easy to use than Construct. + I love the live previews of effects and animations. + I like the JSON styling of character spaces with spritefonts. + REALLY easy to add effects and shaders. It's almost like using photoshop. + Image Points are really cool to easily spawn other objects without having to figure out the x and y coordinate ^^ + Visual Array and Dictionary Editors are extremely cool. + Data handling in general is very easy in Construct.
      • The image editor is VERY rudimentary and has some quirks to it. I would really love to see a nearest point interpolation option for scaling, which would be especially helpful for people using pixel art.
      • I had it happen, that C3 suddenly said it was out of memory i'm not sure if that happens, when you execute your game multiple times and it won't clear the cache or ram or whatever but it happened like once or twice only so...
      • Some Keyboard Shortcuts correspond to the browser and not C3 which is sometimes a bit confusing.
      • Reordering Tabs is really weirdly done. It seems you can pull a tab only in the opposite direction and it's kinda hard to reorder them compared to webbrowsers.
      • I still don't trust the dark theme, it seems to slow down C3 my 13" Macbook considerably. As soon as i deactivate it and go back to the normal one that doesn't happen. I know the 13" model are a bit on the lower end side when it comes to graphical power but i would still expect a webapp like C3 to run smoothly even with the dark theme on as everything else on the web does.
      • iPad usage is kinda iffy. While it's a nice addition it couldn't imagine making a game on mobile devices even on something bigger like the iPad Pro 12.5"
      • Mobile Preview works only around 50% of the time for me on different computers. Most of the time i get a session timeout or something.
      • I think Developers should generally test C3 more regularly on Macs. They seem to be quite an afterthought but nonetheless, love them or hate them, they're still a very important platform especially for visual designers. I also see a lot of potential for C3 as an expanded prototyping tool for apps and so on but most designers there are Mac-based. The most used Prototyping Design Tool (Sketch) is Mac-only.
      • I think C3 should get a lot LOT more 1st party behaviours and plugins but i think that will hopefully come after the new runtime
      • I wish i could save project folder based stuff on my google drive via the browser app.
      • Google Drive Folders are still shown totally messed up. It's like the structure of the drive is getting mixed up considerably it doesn't make sense. I'm still able to find the folder i'm looking for of course on my drive tho of course

Now, while it seems i listed more negatives than positives that's because all the good things from C2 carried over C3 and the best feature of the whole engine for me personally: it enables me to actually make a game

I would highly recommend checking it out, i'm loving it and can't wait to see what the future will bring

  • I'm using rex's csv plugin and have all my dialogue and stuff just in different columns which are being called dependent on a variable that sets the language setting

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • [quote:3u4gkc94]It won't happen again, because that I won't create, update or port any c3 plugin.

Oh no rexrainbow I use about three of your plugins in my commercial game done in C3... Then i'm pretty much doomed :O

  • I would suggest to always bundle your plugins with your project, so you don't have to reinstall them ever no matter what computer you're on.

  • Maybe Ashley can give a statement here?

  • Ashley & Tom : This is a little off-topic but i'm really glad that C3 is paying off for you, i'm presenting early stuff of my game in London at AdventureX (not officially though but i already got some interest by the press) so i'm really loving the software!

In your pursuit of world *********** are you planning on taking on even moaaaar developers?

  • Hi there!

I think the title says it pretty much all Apparently there seems to be an issue sometimes when exporting a game and using the option "Minify Script", that certain 3rd Party Addons won't work with that. Is there any indication when buying or downloading an Addon, which ones will work with the options and which won't?

How bad is it, to export a Desktop Game with the Minify Script option turned off btw?

    Thanks!

    Joel

  • Tint seems to be pretty dead judging from the Issue Tracker...

  • OOOOOOPS! Reading sure helps

  • oosyrag :

Woooow works perfectly now thank you so much!!!

Thanks a ton oosyrag this is really handy and works beautifully

  • No that's right... TBH i didn't even know that Edge wasn't Multiplatform :O I thought they were on Mac as well and i think i remember having Safari running on Windows years ago to try it out but maybe that all changed by now

  • Hi there!

First of all a disclaimer: i don't want to start a performance discussion (so far never had any problems with NW.js) again or anything, this post is purely out of interest and maybe you guys have had some experiences or anything

Since NW.js is based on Chromium i was wondering if there are similiar Wrappers or Systems maybe in the making maybe already released but with different Browsers like Firefox, Edge (if that's even possible since it's proprietary) etc.?

I think that would be kinda interesting to keep a bit of competition going

  • Allright, i tried it out oosyrag and unfortunately i only get an Error Message when trying to load a file stating "Error: JSON is not a valid Construct array"...

  • Posted this a lot already but haven't in the Forums yet. Implemented first features for my Adventure Game "Purgatory". Also streaming the development from time to time. I look forward to work on it on the weekend again!!!

  • oosyrag : Wow, thank you so much this looks really helpful, i'll try it out when i get home tonight
