  • One of the reason I like Construct 2 is that I can reach tons of platforms with a 100 euro price tag (even if it's not native). The only software I would buy at that 800$ price is one that I will be able to use forever for my life, without any other cost. I'm not a company, not a business, just one developer. And I don't think I'm the only one here I don't mean any offense, but raising the price that high won't help even with native export.

Sure, I know it's a big chunk of money, and I'm not suggesting $800 should be the base price, there should obviously be cheaper packages similar to the price structure GMS offers, but I think it depends if you're a hobbyist or if you're seriously trying to sell commercially, if you're making commercial games (making money) I believe it's a fair price to pay for "pro" software. I still make that much per month just on the Xbox indie games I've released, and that market is pretty much dead these days. Pro software is always expensive, I paid close to $800 just for the music package I use, the prices on art and 3D modeling software is also massively expensive, but I'm willing to pay for it as long as it fits my needs and I can use it to make that money back. (and more on top obviously )

  • In a perfect world I think it would be nice for Scirra and ClickTeam to merge, Scrirra would make the event editor as the C2 editor is beyond compare and Clickteam could focus on the native exporters. The software could be called ConFusion and it would be awesome xD

No, but on a serious note, for some people the absence of native export is a deal breaker, and after messing around with C2's export options & 3rd party wrappers I have to be honest, I've decided to work in Fusion. I'm unlikely to buy C3 unless it has "one click" export the same as Fusion does. I greatly respect Scirra and their goals, and like I say the C2 event editor is a real dream to work with, it's beyond compare, but for me personally, the ease of exporting with Fusion is something I value extremely highly.

I know native export is not something Ashley wants to do and I respect that, but I have to say, personally I would be happy to pay a *much* higher price for a C3 with native exporters. GMS goes for $799.99 for the full package, and I'd happily pay that (or more) for a stable C3 with native exporters.

On a final note, I don't understand the slight hostility from some people over this, C2 is what it is, if it's not right for your needs and the future of the software is not heading in the direction you desire then just move on to something else that works better for you personally. There's really no need for bad feelings or accusing C2 devs of "laziness" or other such silliness...

  • I don't like the new Google logo, it looks like the logo for a preschool toy company or something, not that I'm offended by it or anything but yeah, I don't particularly like it...

  • I've been trying all day and I still can't get this to work in the way Ashley says it should, I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong but I just can't figure it out, I've uploaded a very simple .capx which shows my problem, when previewing on my iPad over wifi the music stops every time you move to a new layout, it will not start unless you touch the screen on every different layout you go to. I would really be grateful if anyone has the time to check out the capx and tell me if I'm making some kind of n00bish blunder, massive thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Edit: I just tested this on an Android tablet (Nexus 9) over wifi and I get the same result, no music on layouts unless you touch the screen first (not just the first layout, but all of them)

  • Hi Ashley, I read this part of the manual https://www.scirra.com/manual/109/audio under "Mobile limitations".

I'm still very new and I'm a bit confused, I've only tested over wifi so far and every time i switch layouts there is no sound until I touch the screen, maybe this isn't an issue if the game is properly exported but I'm not sure?

  • I've visited the Scirra website for 10 days in a row, my profile confirms this, yet I do not have the devotee badge.

  • Hi guys, OK, so I've started work on trying to make an iPad game, I've read the manual and I understand that mobile browsers have some pretty major limitations in regards to audio, whenever you start a new layout "audio starts off muted and the first touch unmutes audio playback". So , is there a way I can get around this?

The manual gives the example of "start playback then encourage the user to touch the screen with a 'Play' icon or something similar", I mean sure that's a fine solution if you're just making a game with one layout, but in the game I'm designing you're constantly moving to new layouts, so I can't expect the player to have to press 'play' every time they enter a new room.

I'm just wondering if there's a way to event around this problem, or is there any other solutions I'm not thinking of?

Any help would be very much appreciated, cheers

  • At times definitely yes, I find myself gazing at textures or wondering how this or that is done so nicely, how I can replicate a certain effect or whatever, but personally I'm not upset by it, I feel it's a relatively small price to pay as developing games is something I enjoy far more than playing games, which I know might sound crazy to some people but I love the creative process so much that this is just how I feel

  • Hello all, I've been here for about a month now but I haven't formally introduced myself yet, so I thought I'd take the time to do so

I'm predominately a 2D artist & composer, but I've always had a love for video games ever since getting my first computer which was a C64 back in the mid 80s, and so 5 or 6 years ago I started playing around with game making software, and have worked on a quite a few indie games released on the Xbox 360. Now though the 360 market has dried up and so I've decided it's time to move on to mobile or perhaps Steam. I've tried pretty much all the 2D engines out there with the export options I require and after much deliberation I've settled with C2, as its tool set seems to suit me better than any of the other current alternatives and the community seems friendly and helpful, which is always a good thing! I hope to be an active member of the C2 community (time allowing) so hopefully you'll all be seeing a lot more of me from now on.

Cheers everyone & happy game making!

  • Hello EightyHD, I've never played SAS 3 so I'm not sure exactly what you're after but I'm guessing the "Pathfinding with line of sight" tutorial might be helpful to you even if it's not exactly what you need, maybe you can modify it to work in the way you'd like.

    Tutorial is here > https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/474/pa ... e-of-sight

  • Hi Magistross, yes an annotated video would be wonderful!

  • This is really interesting and looks like just what I need, but I'm wondering will this work with iOS/Android exports? Also, I really wish someone would make a video tutorial on how to use this, I'm new to Construct 2 and it can get a little overwhelming at times, a quick video tut would really be great...
