  • Dear simwhi and GenkiGenga!

I felt maybe it can be usebale for other C2 fans to share my experiance about the publishment of a really simple game like this in Chrome Web Store, so I'll write some positive thing and challanges met in CWS...

    Challanges:

CWS have promo images with really different aspect ratios: Even if we made a good promo image according to the CWS's help, we need to crop and resize it wise. The CWS admins refused the small and medium ones - cause of too many details. I did not agreed with the refuse... so found a trick: used to upload the same image with different name, and 3rd time they accepted it... :)

Playtomic: I used to implement this grat C2 plugin, and have great experience with it. In the first 3-4 days... :( Til than I feel that unfortunately the Playtimic served did not recorded all the Views and Plays in the statistic. I'm currently looking for an alternate solution for in-game statistic. Do you know one? :)

CWS: I think that the Chrome WebStore is the easiest way to get a game published. The develiper onetime fee is low, and the uploading process is well documented. We have a feature to publish for testers, and there is no any special acceptation process for the app itself: you can upload and publish it in minutes, and it will be findable, indexed in the WebStore in 24 hours. I can not compare it really for any other publishment possibility, but have an own stat...

    Installations:

The initial publish were in 13 of may, since than we have 627 installations. It's about 330 install/month what is much more than I espected. :)

  • This is our second published app, what's not really a game but a multimedia application, an interactive book for kids from 2 to 7 years old.

    Technical challanges were:

    1. Make good quality narration: I used to use Rode Videomic for recording with a simple laptop soundcard. The mic is really cheap and good quality, but cause of the sound card we had some noise in the recording. I used Sound Forge's noise reduction to tune it. And cause of the constanly playing bg music you may not notice that the narration have some noise.

    2. Find a good Bg music: this were one of the most time consuming task. I've listed about 100s of music some free and some royality free ones. Finally we paied 50USD for this one, and get the full music+3 shorter versions + 12 loops. It's not so cheap, but we would like to use it as a theme song for all of our games...

    3. Paging: I used to play with book page turning effects in C2, but can not find a way to have one with good performance, what could be work on mobile too. So now all the books are one sprite with as much frames as the number of pages. The swith between books is not so fast, but the paging inside one book have no delay!

    4. Autoplay: I trought that there is something like IsPlaying("Tag") in C2, but didnt. :) So decided to avoid this logic and simply keep all the narration times in variables, and make the autoplay to go to the next page when the last started narration's time elapsed. Well, finally cause of the jitter of the start play I used an 1400ms additional time for every narration to play, and it seems to be ok in all Chrome Browser tests.

    Installation:

Alpine Crocodile Children's Books (You can install it in Chrome Web Browser)

This is the very first publish of the book player application, so I would like to ask for your feedback about it, so we can improove It's functionality, usability and performance!

Thanks for your kind help in ancipation!

  • I think this is officially fixed in R98.

  • Ashley You are right with the IE and Opera. But on the other hand even in a non sound rich game is possible that 50% of the final size is the audio.

My own example is a simple Memory game, what's full size is 2,582Mb, and the audio in it is 1,432Mb. I used only ogg, cause of the Chrome Webstore publish. But it's 55% of the size!

I dont want to push to give this feature a No1. priority, but just keep in your list, keep your eyes open if a solution is accessable...

  • zsangerous unfortunately I use Chrome 19, and get the low fps on it. :(

I've tested the normal version, maybe the raining takes too much cup power? (I'm in Dual Core 3GHz, 4GB RAM, Win7)

I managed to jump trought the bridge withh 2 characters, so can jump up with the little friend, and push the box down. Unfortunately after some bang and enemies came, so my little friend falled down again in an another area. I do not know how to recover him... :(

  • The atmosphere is individual. I have not so good framerates, I feel it 10-20Fps. I suggest you to place not so tall objects in the very first layer what is blured, cause sometimes I can not see the main surface because of them (mainly problem in mid of the 1st level, before the bridge).

Unfortunately I cant find a way to go after the bridge... :(

I have also got some glithecs in rain sound, agree with TPorter64 about it.

I did not saw any dual controller games before, really like it! I think its could be a good, very special feeling game if you tune it...

  • Dear wgfunstorm!

Thank you for your kind and good work about the playtomic plugin. I used it, and it were perfect in side of C2. Unfortunately the Playtomic servers are not reliable, I found tons of questions about it in the Playtomic's community... no one understands what is happening.

You told, that you do not use this anymore. Could you help us to find an alternate solution for this kind of functionality?

I'm sure that you know something, it could be very kind if you can share your experience! :)

  • Tahnk you Ashley! Actually I'm not able to update to r97, but will check it with this version as I can.

  • This is a bug related to scirra.com/forum/array-values-not-being-set_topic53695.html where Ashley sad that it could be happened only if a layout has been deleted.

If you create a new array when an event sheet is on focus in the editor, the array do not have properties - maybe the hidden instance is not created.

But if you have a any layout on focus in the editor it have the properties.

Could you solve this bug please!?

  • simwhi The "Don't forget to change the phonegap.js to cordova-1.x.x.js" is the superb assitance. This is what I would never find myself...

Ashley I will be the happiest people if can use the PG Build, but it's uploadable zip file limit is 10Mb, what is very small for a multimedia rich game... <img src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I have exactly the same problem with Fullscreen(scale mode) in R91.

Went trought all my 20+ prev. versions of my capx files, all made the same error when tested/exported in R91.

  • Dear simwhi and GenkiGenga!

Thanks for your kind feedback! I also got a PM feedback about it, so I've changed it to "on".

I've also changed some words in the text inside the game...

  • Thank you GenkiGenga!

Of course we are open any little polishing in the game... we are in HTML5 and its wondeful, that we can make changes easily after the initial publish.

    1. We are non native english speakers, only one friend who's academic in english did the proofreading of the 1st story and the game's text. The original text used to use the "who's knocking on the door"... so I need to ask you if you are sure this is the correct?! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    3. I used to use the Alpine Crocodile prefix to push the "brand", but the title is very-very long this way, and the users can not see what it is at first look. Maybe I can change it to "Whos knocking on the door? - Alpine Crocodile".

  • simwhi thanks, waiting for all people's feedback... :)

dformer I see what you are talking about, and thank oyu for this feedback%

The website have only 2 stories and one game as content now. We plan to make it colorful by it's content's thumbnail images - what are all clickable - instead of make a colorful template, that catches the attention of the visitors.

By this decision we have a risk: the website will not be colorful enough till we do not have enough content.

Altrought there is a chance that you will right, and we may modify the plan.

I have some minor modifications on my list, like water waves before the menu, some smart usage of sidebar to x-advertise other contetns, etc.

  • Ok, Ashley I'll try to start from the max resolution, and scale the images down.

Yes, jbadams I also thought about that, and found the Configurations dialog in C2... I hope that this will be what you are talking about:
