  • Could I request an Array object? Or some kind of start on more complex data structures. S for C2?

  • Hey Ash. If you load that platformer example in Chrome, while you don't have that tab open, the player sprite ends up in the middle of the platform.

  • A plugin for this, especially one that could create and read encrypted files, would be great.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Had an idea the other day for a 'polygon' object - although maybe its already in Construct 1 and I never figured out how to use it? But yeah. A texture stretched between 4 given coordinates.

  • Thanks Ash. Quick question - is picking working? Cause it's not for me, specifically for destroying one of many objects.

  • cow_trix: Windows decides the position of the window. That seems odd. What version and service pack of Windows are you on? You could try deleting the Construct 2 registry key (HKCU\Software\Scirra\Construct 2 IIRC) which will reset the size and position of all dialogs, and try again.

Yes! That works. I was on Windows 7 64bit. This is a problem that will probably never occur again, but do you think it would be necessary to set the window position to say the middle of the parent window as a safeguard?

  • Ashley: I can't add an action. When I try to add an action in the event sheet, the focus goes off the main window as if the 'add event' window is open, but nothing appears. I have to hit ESC, which I'm assuming closes the invisible 'add event' window. I've managed, by randomly hitting Tab and Enter, to get some events to appear, so it's obviously open, but its invisible and I can't interact with it in any way.

I have a notion what might be happening - I opened Construct 2 when I was using a dual-monitor setup, so its possible the event window is opening in that now non-existent space. How are the initial coordinates of the event window done?

  • Still broken for me

  • Hey briggybros. All the answers to your questions can be found in this thread:

  • Personally I don't believe in HTLM5, that's why I'd like to see c0.x improved, and no more dependancies for the editor or executables.

    C2 /= HTML5

  • Just as an addition to that Tile Map thing, a proper Isometric engine would be awesome.

Also, I can't believe there hasn't been more conversation about the online capabilities. What's the deal there?

  • I'm getting a pretty show-stopping bug here. I can't add an action. When I try to add an action in the event sheet, the focus goes off the main window as if the 'add event' window is open, yet nothing appears. I have to hit ESC, which I'm assuming closes the invisible 'add event' window. I'd put it on the bug tracker, but for some strange reason SourceForge is blocked from my college's internet. Anyone else getting this?

  • Yes, just put it up on any filesharing site and post the link. Mediafire is good, or get a DropBox or Box.net account.

  • The LOS object doesn't like it when you collide. You can probably fake it pretty darn well. Just make a PV for the enemies, and always set it to the distance between the main character and it. When the value drops below a certain limit (i.e. the character gets close), enable the chase behaviour. This is faster than LOS, but doesn't deal with enemies not being able to see through solids.

If you want to keep the LOS, you could implement both systems. Make the LOS enable the chase behaviour, but also make it so when the player is very close, the behaviour is also on. This should solve the stopping when your are overlapping the enemy.

  • Word search? As in you have a grid of letters, and have to find words?

I'll assume, just cause it's more awesome, that you want to generate word searches. Well, first off, get your words, and make them appear at random in the grid. Set a starting position, and send the word off in a random direction. Then test if

    a) You do not overwrite an existing word, or if you do, that the letter you overwrite is the same as the letter you write.

    b) the word does not go off the grid.

Then, fill all the empty boxes with a random letter.

Then, by say clicking and dragging across multiple boxes (with a rule that a box cannot be selected if two of the boxes next to it are selected, for diagonal selection), write the values of the boxes to a variable. If the variable matches one of the words in the word search, hey presto, a point!
