  • Wow, didn't expect that so early in the U3 engine life.

It is a great engine, ironically used worst by Epic in Unreal Tournament 3, with its painfully low-res textures after we were teased with the brilliantly rendered screenshots.

It's a great scalable engine that is one of the smoothest running but nicest looking at the moment. Batman Arkham Asylum is a recent game that uses it really well, especially with nice eye-candy its PhysX effects.

  • Ah yeah, the Photoshop CS4 has this natively, called Content Aware Scaling. Sometimes it works really well, sometimes not so much, it really depends on the original image.

  • I've joined there. Should we identify ourselves so we all know who's who, or stay anonymous?

  • That's pretty damn groovy

  • Haha that was funny. I really hope most of these are jokes, otherwise I worry for the world.

  • I love Weezer, and I thought Red was a good return to form after Make Believe which I didn't think was up to scratch. The video for Pork and Beans is great too, andyone who hasn't seen it needs to find a copy.

  • Bloody nora, that's mental!! The gun one especially, I spent about 10 minutes just shooting at nothing, it felt very nice!

  • I know graphics aren't everything, I was just making the observation that from the screenshots the graphics look quite underwhelming for a modern game, especially compared to GTA IV. I've no idea how the game is, I'm sure it's great, I like the idea of freedom and customisation.

  • Like he said, there was an episode of top gear where they got tractors, and one of them had so many features and gizmos it took one of them like an hour to even turn it on. That's what some 3D programs are like. It's got wheels and a gas pedal, but that sucker is no car, and nowhere close to as easy to use.

Choice of 3D software makes a huge difference on your workflow. Maya, for all its incredible capabilities, is worthless to me because it's ridiculously hard to use. I took a class on it and can't understand what they were thinking when they designed it. I've used a lot of 3D programs, and finding one that's easy to use (or one that you can even use at all) makes a huge difference.

Trouble is, with 3d programs they need to do so many different things, for so many different types of thing, and so many combinations of so many different things for so many different types of thing. It must surely be difficult for the developer to squeeze all the functions into a GUI to make the vast amount of possibilities actually possible and not have it end up being a total mess (like this paragraph). This also means there's not usually one specific way of doing something, and different people might have completely different methods of accomplishing the same task. Best way is to just start with very basic stuff, then build on that gradually.

  • What system is that on? It isn't PS3 or XBOX360 is it? From those screenshots the graphics look very last-gen, PS2 quality or something.

  • Am I the only one on this board that finds this thread insanely offensive and sexist and insulting?

    es.

  • Yep, Red Dwarf is great, one of my favourite shows, although it lost its way during the 7th and 8th series. It's well worth getting the DVDs if you like what you've seen. There's a few brand new episodes being shown Easter weekend too, but I'm not holding out hope for them unfortunately.

  • Will it have built in engines for quickly making games such as Animal Crossing and Ninendogs?
