  • These are 2 3D game creating programs that I know of and not everybody know's about them and I'l share them on this forum for those who are interested.

Plutonium3D - It is said that this program will be like Game Maker or Construct but maintains focus on 3D, I don't know if it's still being worked on or not tough oh and btw there is no public release/beta of it yet but it was started quite recently.

    P3D Concept

Retribution Engine - Similar to P3D but made for FPS game's only, the quality is similar to Quake 2 or Half Life 1 but it feature's many possibilities of single player FPS game's and making levels with trigger's to make easy cutscene's, this program is final and the author no longer support's it, the last version has been released last year and there will be no update's on it anymore, I have tried this program and it is very easy to create fun FPS game's with it, no multiplayer support tough, it was going to have it at one point but it was abandoned.

  • That Plutonium3D doesn't look like to be anything more than an idea on the paper. I wouldn't expect anything out of it for at least three years, possibly even more, since it is 3D.

  • I know about plutonium3d , it is being developed by Zoltan Percish(or something similar), he also created Silent Walk FPS creator which just supported FPS games, I think last Nov or Dec he stopped the project and started working on P3D, he also has a website silentworks.hu [WARNING: google chrome for some reason shows that it's forum is not safe to visit though I don't know why, but the news about p3d is only available on the forum ]

    P3D looks promising but I don't think it's a one man job

  • That warning is fake, you can safely ignore it as there is no virus on the forums, silent walk is an fps game creator, not as good as retribution engine imo.

I just found some new ones

Reality Factory = A basic 3D game making program, comes with many programs to develop content for it, they are working on RF2 but nothing is much known about it yet.

Ray Game Designer 2 = A very early 3D game making tool, very unsupported and it's an early beta too, abandoned long ago so what you get is a very early build of it, the author used it to create Turbo Lode and Pumpy game's himself.

  • If you're talking about free 3D game creators, then maybe somebody should mention Unity and ShiVa.

The OP was mentioning lesser-known engines. Otherwise Unity3D should've been at the top of the list, lol. Good to add in case someone hasn't heard of it yet. It's really the best 3D engine for indies.

  • Yes and I am discussing about non-programmer's engines too they are rare but exist, Unity3D may be the easiest programmers engine tough but not the best, the best would be either CryEngine 3 (Used by Crysis 2) or Unreal Development Kit.

  • http://www.3Drad.com is free. One minus is that you have to wait 3 months before you get the version (one released each month, but non-donators get 3 month old versions)

  • Atleast 3DRad is now free, it used to be shareware or commercial in 2004 or 05 I think, 3DRad look's good.

  • Unreal Development Kit:

I've actually ported some stuff over from TF2, nothing huge though

I said for indies. Can CryEngine 3 or Unreal Engine 3 be used commercially for free?

  • I said for indies. Can CryEngine 3 or Unreal Engine 3 be used commercially for free?

    unreal licensing http://www.udk.com/licensing

    $99 Royalty bearing

    $2,500 Per seat

In other words if you made a game to sell it is only $99 if your sales make $5000 or less.

"US $99 (Ninety Nine US Dollars) up-front, and a 0% royalty on you or your company's first $5,000 (US) in UDK related revenue, and a 25% royalty on UDK related revenue above $5,000 (US). "

But that is putting the cart before the horse. Get it and play with it. Changes are you will never actually make a commercial game so no biggie. But you you do make something amazing then the $2,500 will be a drop in the bucket compare to the profits.

the big draw of this over Unity is you get the full package. you have to pay for Unity Pro.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • UDK is not for everyone, surely not for guys like me running a Pentium D , 2GB ram and a ATI Xpress200 graphics card

    you forgot to mention these-

blender- it has a built in game engine and it's pretty easy to use

crystal space - it was used to create the game "Yo Frankie!" (not for beginners)

can somebody mention the limitations of Unity free version?

Why work with something that most indies cannot afford even if they make something good? Also, even great indie games often don't make much (if any) money. I don't know what you mean about getting the full package.

Also, there's not much extra that comes with Unity Pro. Mostly it's just for companies that can afford to pay for their license whereas indies cannot. Trust me, there's not a big difference.

Blender totally rocks and once you get the hang of the 3d modeling it is not that hard at all. Might be the best choice so far.

Limitation of Unity pro is $$
