Character Design - software?

Can someone recommend me on what software is good for 3D character animating model? I'm looking for a software that is easy to use for beginner. Suggestions/comments are well appreciated.

Uhm.. Blender? It's free and has many features built in it. Though it can be troublesome for having too many. And like scirra, its community is quite helpful too. And last, it's free.

ow man blender is not by any means for beginners. Id say Poser and DazStudio. Can't compare with Blender, but they are dead simple and let you animate (somehow). And at least Daz is free -- not sure about Poser. Also, there's TONS AND TONS of free 3D content for them (check sharecg and renderosity -- just for starters!). If you rather want to sculpt your own stuff I'd hit Sculptris (the lite, free version of ZBrush).

Wings 3D

Give Blender a try. I've also used 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, but they're look complicated.

Fengist - I've used Wings before, but it don't have any animation features.

Tetriser Winds3d to model, export as .obj. DazStudio to animate. And, if you decide to work in 3D, I know for a fact the models look just fine in Unity.
