  • Terrastruct is an app for creating terrain maps out of mesh's.

Its a fairly simple process that just about anybody can do, but the thing is we have the ability to import mesh's, so there's really no need to import the extraneous data, or create the events for it.

I'm still in the planning process, and the first part of the engine is made.

Included in the zip you'll find a mesh, and an exe that loads it. This is an example of a map with detail that's fairly high, but it's just a taste of what can be made with the process.

  • looks pretty hot.

  • nice; it's subtle, and it works really well with the high-res ground texture.

  • Indeed, it is quite nice. Though I notice that shadows need some work.

  • Thanks

I don't have a lot of experience in making maps so it might be a while before I get them perfect. I plan to make a few tuts on how to get some decent results once I get good enough, and I have a working product. For now you will have to make up the image, and distort map in another editor, but hopefully in the future you will be able to do all the editing in one app. Plus there are tons of terrain programs out there that are made to do that kind of thing. The example was made using Gimp, and I've already experimented with Anim8or, and Terragen, and they will also work.

  • Update:

Included in the file is the current version, a working model of the conversion program.

Also includes some mesh's, and images for testing.

Note the heightmap was made with construct as well, meaning a full blown terrain program is possible.

    To do:

    Heighmap creator 10%

    Texture creator 0.0%

Please take a look any suggestions are welcome.

  • This is great, very proffesional.

One thing that I think might help is possibly changing the text that says "load mesh" to a lighter gray/white colour to help make it a bit more readable.

  • Do you rekon iso mode for games will be possible? What you planning to do with it? Realy good stuff. Congrats!

  • do you mean like rotating and tilting ?

Thanks, Ill see what I can do.

Also thanks, and yes like alspal said tilting and rotating are feasible, matter of fact you can already do rotation.

As to tilting , you would have to set up a loop to simply add or subtract z data across the mesh.

  • being able to tilt a mesh would be really useful!

  • Update 2

Mesh editor 99% Pretty much finished.

Height map maker 99% Pretty much finished. Im not incredibly happy with it, but there's only so much you can do with image manipulator.

Texture maker 80% Working model with decent functionality. It's actually working much better than I thought it would. Its limited to 4 textures due to the fact Image manipulator wont capture all of a tilled background object, so for now the texture must be the same size as the map.

It shouldn't be terribly hard to use, but I'll make a few tuts to make things easier. The height map is probably the hardest thing to figure out, so Ill make one tut for the app, and probably others for Gimp.

I also plan on setting up a website to host the tuts, and perhaps set up a mesh sharing thing there as well. Well not just mesh's I want to add a bunch of textures to use as well.
