Importing from other applications?

  • Hi Guys,

Is it possible to import a Multimedia Fusion application into Construct?

  • Hi, welcome to the forums.

Why would it be..? Other applications have proprietary file formats which are nearly impossible to reverse engineer. You'll have to remake anything you've made in anything else.

  • Well for one thing, I understood that the two programs were related somehow.

Many documents are convertible from one format to another.

Thank you for your timely reply, I do dislike it though when people answer a question with a question.

  • Uh, no. Construct might share some broad concepts with MMF2, and some of the Construct devs have worked with MMF2, but otherwise it's got nothing to do with it. Expecting Construct to accept MMF2 datafiles is a bit like expecting Microsoft Word to open Blender files.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

As others have said, there's no relation in the software; we are looking to change our file format to a more open and readable .xml format for Construct 2, but until then it's unfeasable that there could be any co-mingling in file formats between other programs.

  • on a happier note, construct is by far the quickest and easiest of these game makers to use, and the forums here always get quick responses, so remaking something from scratch will be as painless as possible. read the wiki and tutorials and post questions if you run into any bumps

    welcome to the forums

  • Just going to pitch in that it's probably not technically possible anyway, since MMF has features Construct lacks and vice versa. But yeah... welcome to the forums

  • Thanks very much for your time guys,

I've had a look at Construct some time ago and was very impressed.

I think I'll be using this for any future projects I probably won't ever find the time to undertake. Clickteam have pushed me just a little too far this time around. Is generally a far cry from a smartly designed, and welcoming place like this.

  • Clickteam have pushed me just a little too far this time around.

What was it they did to you?

  • Well it's a whole story...

The application I've been writing since 2002 worked great under Games Factory and Multimedia Fusion 1.5 but very badly under MMF2.

They weren't interested in helping to fix the file and when I tried to help someone with the same problem on their forum I was attacked publically by Yves one of the developers. He was extremely aggressive and unfair. Unfortunately the forum conversation took place too long ago for it to still be available.

I mentioned the problem with the file recently on the forum with regard to their work on "hardware acceleration" and they claimed that it was my fault as a "developer" for trying to shoe-horn too much into MMF2 without hardware acceleration. This is obviously nonsense if my application worked fine under the original MMF.

They then realised that they had gone too far with that one and deleted their post and mine.

This and the fact that HWA has taken forever for them to complete and they have been cagey about its progress.

I can't help feeling as though my project is, in effect, prisoner to a company that has little clue about what it's doing and is rude and abusive to its customers. I don't know but my overall impression of Clickteam at the moment is one of a company circling the drain. Any input from users as to how to avert this is treated with great disdain.

  • You are safe here:P oh welcome to forums and you dont need to touch those sucky MMFs and GFs though GameFactory was funny:P you can now spend good time with Construct. I migrated from MMF to Construct not long ago^^
