I'm concerned you guys are still targeting hobbyists after viewing the C3 splash page. "Make games easier and faster than ever before?" That's a feature, that's not what C3 is. That has "hobbyist" written all over it. When I read that I think, "Wow, I can make games with this and I don't have to do a lot of work." That's pretty much the opposite of how professionals think. They expect to put a lot of work into their games.

    It should read something like:

C3 is the most professional HTML5 game making tool for the Professional game maker. You need to stress that it's a "professional" tool. You want to attract more than just hobbyists? Making games easier and faster should be mentioned much lower down on the page.

First 3 questions should be answered in this order:

    1. What is C3

    2. What can it do?

    3. Who is it for?

    (Optional) How much?

Unless you guys disagree. It's just a suggestion.

Btw, Whoever you have designing these websites is doing a great job. Very clean and very easy to follow.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, ntoed. We agree we've been marketing from the wrong angle in the past. I think when you see the new site you'll agree it's a lot more confident in its approach.

Tom Well, your MS Paint billboard got me back into using C2 after a year again, so you must have done something right!

  • Hah, glad it got you back into it! Was fun doing that

  • That was a cute billboard. Honest too. The art is perfect for it. I like how it refers to bird games, bee games, etc. Exactly how a kid would think.

Quick question about the slogan, was "Build your imagination..." taken?

Hey, that could be a fun thread. Ask people what kind of slogans they can come up with for C3. Here's a few:

    1. Construct 3 - Drag and drop your imagination into a game.

    2. Construct 3 - 3 times the game making fun!

    3. Construct 3 - The trifecta of game making

    4. Construct 3 - Build the game of your dreams

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

I think that meme was an attempt at wit but failed. Seriously, Moot has a point about the slogan, but in the end I don't think a slogan on the website will sell it. It'll be the features, support and capabilities of both the engine and the devs that sell it.

I agree. I slogan probably won't sell it out right. It's a subconscious thing. Like a jingle. If it's good, people will remember it. I could probably rattle off a dozen slogans right now and sing even more jingles for different products. Sometimes slogans are more memorable than the actual product.

"We'll leave the light on for you." is a slogan, I think by some hotel business, but I can't remember which one. That slogan just sticks with me because I have family, and I leave the light on for them at night. It's simple, kind, and relatable.

    Edit:

Looked it up. It's Motel 6. I think that's why I couldn't remember it. I purposely blocked it from memory.

Hah, yeah, I have a few hotel memories I'd like to block too.

Something to add a little more weight to the argument that Construct is a tool that, in the hands of a professional, will outdo Unity:

    https://www.airconsole.com/games/and-the-winners-are-

The contest drew 62 entrants. The top 3 were:

    1st Place - Built with Construct 2

    2nd Place - Built with ???

    3rd Place - Built with Construct 2

  • 2nd place - Built with Unity

That's actually a pretty good example, thanks for sharing.

  • I'm glad the devs have noted that their marketing image might have missed the mark a bit in the past and are rectifying. I think Construct is a great tool and very powerful, but I kind of cringe when I visit the website a because it looks like it's marketed as a toy (although has improved somewhat - at one point it said something like "Make games effortlessly" which we all know can't really be done well and I think someone called them out on this). Early on many other devs using unity kind of scoffed or talked down to me a bit because of the image - that's fine if you're hoping to attract amateurs and hobbyists but you're obviously hoping to expand out from that. Someone on another thread suggested also changing the name from Construct 3 to something more descriptive eg Construct Cloud (I think was the example someone used). That seemed like a very good suggestion as it keeps your branding, but if you're hoping to attract a new crowd there isn't that psychological barrier of them having not used previous versions of the software and for current users it also clearly marks it as a very different product from Construct 2.
