I am New to Construct. I need to ask Few Questions

  • Recently found construct 3. Its not hard to use. But I am still hesitate put all of my time to learn it. Since Gamesalad is pretty much done. I am afraid to learn the engine end up in the same fate. so i need to ask some people for advise.

    is there any problem exporting a game to ios and andriod?

    Can i apply iap, ads, and leaderboard to my games?

    Can i create exe for window?

    I only want to make 2d game, is this the right engine for making 2d game?

    I've been in a similar boat, as I used to make games in Flash.

    Since Flash's demise, I've been really careful about picking a game engine/technology that wouldn't suffer the same fate. I', quite confident that HTML5 isn't going anywhere, and in one way or another, you will be able to deploy games using that technology for a very long time.

    Scirra's products (C2 and C3), are HTML5 game engines (not native). This doesn't however mean that they are not fast. To be honest, from what I've tried and heard of GameSalad in the past, I am pretty certain that C2/C3 provide much more performance and flexibility.

    One of the main reasons I've started using C2/C3 is because of Scirra's support. They have an awesome track record of fixing bugs regularly and keeping the engines up to date.

    Saying this, one can never be completely certain of what will happen in the future - but at least with C2/C3 you don't have much of a learning curve in front of you (like some other engines).

    C3 is still in beta, and the exports to iOS and Android with all the trimmings (ads etc.), still seem to be a work in progress. I personally think that its worth hanging in there and seeing what Scirra comes up with.

    There are other engines out there, both Native and HTML5, that will get you where you want, but if you want a Drag and Drop Game Engine with an easy to understand eventing system and build in effects, particles, physics etc. you will not find an easier and more fun engine to use

    In your questions' order:

    • No, you can export your game to Android right now, but note that you'll need Android 5+. I don't know whether iOS export works currently or not, but it will definitely. Oh, and you'll need a paid license to do that.
    • Currently no, since C3 is in beta, but Scirra said that they are developing these options so you can expect them in the near future.
    • Sure, but just as for mobile export, you'll need a paid license.
    • C3 is a 2D engine, and is perfect for 2D games. Experiment with the free version and see whether it suits your needs or not.

  • I switched over from GameSalad to C2 in 2014 and haven't looked back. There were a few reasons for me why C2 was a better fit, but the two biggest ones were:

    1. I am a teacher, and I needed a way to create something for my students and publish it in a few hours instead of a few weeks. HTML5 is perfect for this. I also have the option to publish to the app store as well, but I don't do this often, as HTML5 is better for my target audience.

    2. Construct 2 was significantly more capable and feature-complete than GameSalad. I don't know if this is still the case. Since C2 is designed around web technologies, it was easy for me to integrate with a server backend and get appa talking to each other.

    i can relate with you is the other way around. i love construct 2 but i think the end is very near so i am looking a next software to use. Or i never use construct 3 but with the direction it is going like Gamesalad force me to now go learn a new engine all over again

    I've been using gamesalad for 5 years. Gamesalad is struggling with their developments. They have very slow progression for updating their engine. Gamesalad still dont have snap to grid, can you believe it!!! People request this feature 4 years ago!!! Also, they tried to create new engines to replace gamesalad in these years. But they all failed. Yes, they are developing the web version now. However, I dont feel good about this base on their history. Most of veterans gamesalad users have left them. They're unstable and unreliable.

    I am not sure about construct. They still dont have advertising for developers. How do developers make money then??? I am mainly focus on mobile games. Now I am having a headache finding a right engine for non-coding user.

    I think Construct 3 is pretty good compare to gamesalad. Why jumping out of the boat?

    Advertisement will start once C3 reaches the stable stage.
