  • Hey Everyone

Just wanted to share something I have been working on in my free time and introduce myself a bit.

    About me:

I'm a freelance graphic designer who saw "Indie Game" and got all inspired about making games. After searching and reading on game development, it quickly became apparent that there's a butt load of stuff I didn't and do not know. Like the programming languages primarily used in game dev (C++, Java, etc..) Trying to learn C++, but that is a very slow process in terms of getting to a point to where I can build a game. (or any object oriented app) Further searching brought me here, and within a few days of playing around with Contstruct 2, I fell in love and I purchased a personal license.

I'm new to the expressions, and overall functionality.. but I was pleased to find that just about anything you want to do, has been done by another community member so it's easy to find a solution or starting point. Plus this site has SO much info.

Please keep in mind that I am a graphic designer first and foremost. So coding, programming and just about anything to do without pixels, can be a bit of a challenge. Either way it's a blast playing, experimenting, and learning.

My goal is to create a retro platform styled / adventure game. I have a bunch of ideas, and a bunch to figure out (both artwork & programming)

Here are the files. If you have any pointers, or suggestions.. I'm all ears and here to learn <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle">

  • I like the look and feel. Looking forward to seeing more.

I posted here a while back and someone pointed out that this thread gets overlooked a lot and its better to put your wips above in "your creations". Probably get more views and responses.

  • Hello there! We finally updated our game (though very late - we were planning to do it till Christmas). Please take a look! scirra.com/arcade/games/addicting-action-games/2181/dreamland

  • facecjf your platformer looks really good. The graphics remind me of Superbrother: swords & sworcery. I look forward to seeing more work!!

  • nothaseo: Very cool. The water coming off the bottom of the scooter when you hit the ocean is a nice touch <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

It's a little strange right now that if you let go of all the keys you slowly float backwards. It makes dodging bullets a bit more difficult than it should be because your constantly tapping right to stay in the same sport. Apart from that, looks good!

    boolean: Thanks for trying my game <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

As for the float backward thing, I thought that if we let go of all keys means that the scooter is slowing down, and if we press right then it is speeding up. But I tried your idea and it feels better (and easier) now   <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> Thanks

  • I used the marvellous R0J0hound's canvas plugin to do a kind of circular counter (may be useful for a reload effect). Blend mode source in, draw arc in canvas and paste sprite. I don't know if there is a better method to do this.

    DEMO

    Capx

    (sorry for bad english !)

    update :

Ok, I did it with a better method, I think.

Create a layer with Force own texture to Yes.

Add the circle sprite, then the canvas on top, and set its Effect Property to Destination in.

  • nothaseo

Nice time scale use and Dragon Ball style, like that !

  • Thanks <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> I applied it because sometimes when i played shooter game I thought i needed that. Im a big fan of Toriyama. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Hey I tried your demo, Nice. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> But I havent checked the capx. I always want to make circular life bar or energy gauge. Wondering if i can use your capx. Check it soon. Thanks <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hallooo! Do people still post tests here? I've been working on this for the past few hours trying to rig up a basic dynamic darkness thinger. Have a play about - can post .capx if anyone's interested - let me know if you've seen anything similar (have done the usual forum searches etc) as would love to know!
