  • Are you going to include how when mario got killed by a monster he would do a small bounce then fall through the ground?

  • I really like this man, has a really nice art style. Did you design the sprites for the emo yourself? Keep up the good work! I saw it on the other topic, seems like the game mechanics are really coming along too. Could do some funky sprites for generic emo abusers, make a few jock sprites or something. :)

  • facecjf your platformer looks really good. The graphics remind me of Superbrother: swords & sworcery. I look forward to seeing more work!!

New project inspired by the graphics of Chasing Aurora (not even near <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />)

Will be an adventure/survival type game.

Currently I got some timeline with cutscenes working like a charm.

Really like the look of this man, post some more images!

  • If I can help I will. :) I can try draw some decent images although spriting I don't think I can do really. Its so hard to even make a good 16 or 32 bit sprite, can't imagine how much time must go into animating and spriting the old school street fighters. Madness.

  • Thanks guys, I have changed the topic so its less misleading. While going about making an adventure like this would you use a large tiled background of say all the rooms then add collision masks for walls and events to quickly fade out move screen fade in etc? I will go have a look at some of the tutorials. :)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I have never tried to make game art before man, even if its for experimental purposes it would be my honor to try and create a background or layout for you if you tell me what you would like. I guess if I was to draw a few long layouts, put a collision mask at the end to move to the next screen or something I could string a few long drawings together to create a bsic platformer right? This is very basic theory at the moment and I should really be doing my college work at the moment and beer doesnt help. :P

After playing bit dungeon however it makes me want to create a game like that really bad, the only skill I have though really is the ability to draw and scan my work :)

  • Hey guys I am not sure whether many of you have played games like this but I am assuming you have. Have you played point and click adventures. Say the whole screen is what you see. No scrolling, only doors you go though so just the layout with an arena. you spawn, click on the enemies, you character battles the enemies then if you beat the enemy you get a key. A game like bit dungeon. How would you go about creating a game like this. If you need more details I can elaborate. Anybody know how you would go about this :)

    Peace x

  • Hey guys, I'm josh. I am currently doing an art foundation and hope to study illustration next year. I hope to make a game combining hand drawn and pixel styles. Hopefully in a few years I will be capable :)

  • Well what I did thus far is scan in. Crop in Photoshop and scale down to 64X64 in paint. Although after making blank sprites for the platform I realized I could just draw the scene. I am a complete novice at this. I did notice that they didn't blend completely but I don't think that would be too much of an issue really. I could always grabs a column or two of pixels from one side and put it on the other, change slightly so it blends. Alternatively I could scan line drawings and colour on Photoshop for consistent colours. Then the hand drawn quality may be gone though.

I think I still going to attempt to make / use a pixel sprite. I lke the style and it may go well as a combination. Hand drawn and pixel art. :) Definatly looking forward to trying it out and hopefully I will learn a bit of construct along the way. :)

Some more really quick pen and water colour combos. Will try 64x64 this time. Hopefully will have a few usable tiles afterwards. Thanks for your response space ape! Glad somebody else is upto these tricks, I really wanted to create pixel tiles but I am no good with digital art really. Although I illustrate so hoping I can make use of what I can do. I will have a go at playing with collision masks after I make these into tiles :)

Well there are the four tiles, Will have a mess about now.

  • Hey guys, this is my first post so would like to say hello, been looking around the site and everybody seems very friendly and supportive which is nice. I have no experience with this engine and pretty much know how to do nothing but I figured before I start anything technical I would like to make some of my own graphics. I am pretty lazy so these are literally very quick rough sketches which I wanted to scan in quickly. Here there is a background, and a few tiles I drew quickly with biro and watercolour and a 32X32 tile version of the dirt platform tile I drew. Using this kind of technique and with the right knowledge of construct would I be able to make the necessary bits for a platformer on construct 2?

I did do the platformer tutorial upto the scoring stage, It didnt't show how to make platforms I dont think and also would I be able to make the tile repeat itself to form the platforms?

    Hope this all makes sense.

How can I make use of images like these?
