  • Hi.

My game is coming along nicely using C2.

I want to purchase C2 so i can export to IOS and Android.

Before i do, i need the communities input if its worth it?

From what i gathered by browsing and lurking is that there are some performance issues regarding physics on IOS due to cacoonJS integration or something of the sort.

What other concerns are there regarding performance?

Any noticeable issues when exporting to mobile?

What is the road-map for C2? Will there be a C3 anytime soon, so i should rather hold off on the purchase?

Your input will be much appreciated.

    Regards

Excellent to hear :) Personally for the cost to value of the toolset. The Personal edition is well worth it.

This is pretty much the only downside of C2. Out of all of it's amazing capabilities. It's reliance on other platform developers is it's Achilles heel. CJS one or 2 version ago when WebGL came out was doing really well. 60fps was pretty standard for a descent amount, but the new version has hit a performance snag. Physics was also working last itteration, but took a performance hit this time. Can't say why. Ludie isn't very good at talking with developers :|

However HTML5 technologies are getting better and we are seeing more emerging tech's. sooner or later someone is going to hit the sweet spot.

What other concerns are there regarding performance?

Nope, just keep in mind that you do lose a little bit of performance due to Javascript, but it's negligible with good design. otherwise like anyother language keep in mind your memory and data transfer between memory and GPU.

Roadmap for C2 is looking good. A lot more features coming out.

The C3? question comes up as a wave thing. It's quite for most of the year, then boom comes up once every 3 days. :D

The answer is that C3 will not come about until the technology of C2 target platforms becomes obsolete or C2 needs to be rewritten to run on a larger number of platforms(Win, OSX, Linux, IOS, Android...). As long as HTML5 tech gaming is on the rise and is viable platform then C3 isn't needed. So I wouldn't expect C3 for another 5+ years.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • What is the road-map for C2?

    • Increasing Performance, more Exporters, debugger, new functions. This is what we know.

Will there be a C3 anytime soon, so I should rather hold off on the purchase?

    • Soon ? For sure not. Anytime ? Could happen but I think before they release a new version they integrate paid addons or something like this. C3 could come with the release of HTML6 :D

Before I do, I need the community input if its worth it?

    • Buy the personal Edition, it?s extremely cheap and if it?s worth for you get the business edition.

From what I gathered by browsing and lurking is that there are some performance issues regarding physics on IOS due to cacoonJS integration or something of the sort.

    • Currently the performance is ok. For sure not like native Applications but ok. The performance becomes better and better cause Construct 2 exports to HTML5, and HTML5 gets more and more popular. What I can tell you about IOS is that they leak actually a bit with HTML5/Webgl support.

Any noticeable issues when exporting to mobile?

    • Nope
  • Thank you for the input. The was informative. Will go ahead then :)

    Thx again.

  • Hi, I just bought the personal license a couple of days ago. I have some experience with native programming and semi-native programming (as in Basic4Android). I must say the purchase of C2 feels really rewarding, especially compared to other similar software at x times the price or a monthly/yearly fee.

[A small digression: if Photoshop and the like cost this sort of money instead of the ridiculous $591247832, Adobe would make much bigger money]

As to the performance, it is just something you have to deal with for now. For example, I made a simple Fruit-Nija-esque game (not so many objects and effects, but quite a lot of dynamic movement). On my Nexus 7 the performance is ok but on my old Samsung Galaxy S1 it's totally unplayable (skipping frames etc.). Of course there are WAY more advanced games that run smoothly on the latter.

But, as others have pointed out, it will be getting better.

Then, I'm still not convinced about the whole underlying HTML5 thing but it comforts me when I read how enthusiastic people are about it here. Though I admit I *would* feel better with a native exporter.

All in all, I try to look at it this way: if I was to make apps using native programming it would require a massive time investment which I can't afford. With C2 I can JUST do whatever I want and concentrate on the creative process without keeping reinventing the wheel - and I really, really love it. Plus I'm allowed to make money with it. So, if the price I have to pay for it is HTML5 and a drop in performance that will be reduced over time then I think this price is a REAL steal.

    Cheers <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • C3? Where you get that info from? I haven't noticed that to be mentioned. I personaly always imagined that construct3 if it ever gonna be made then it will involve 3D features but then again, that's just what I think :P

  • Totally worth it + weekly updates..

    What more could you want?

  • Sweet. I went ahead and bought it. Truth be told, my biggest motivator was the ability to organize my stuff and additional Layers.

  • Congrats on the purchase. Hope you do something big with it. :)

  • We are just about to finish our second game using C2. We are happy with the results but as a previous poster said, game design is very important. CocoonJS has hit a few snags lately but let's hope we get a new update soon.

  • What is the road-map for C2?

    - more Exporters,

    NOOOO!

This is pretty much the only downside of C2. Out of all of it's amazing capabilities. It's reliance on other platform developers is it's Achilles heel.

    Agreed, a huge roadblock.
