Yeah. Before Functions i was doing things like

Set var to 1

wait 0.1

set var to 0

if var = 1

trigger once

and now looking at function and it looks like it's going to be something awesome. Thought i still don't get few things like what's compare parameter and return value is for and when to use it.

Much simpler ;)

As for figuring the function object out, just create a new project and experiment with it there. Experiment with all the conditions, actions and expressions, see how they work and you'll master it in no time.

Experience is the best teacher :)

In event sheet:

Function: On "myFunc"

==> do what you want (use Function.Param(X) to get param)

Foo (e.g. Mouse: On Left button)

==> Function: Call "myFunc" (with param if needed)

How does the picking work with functions? If I've picked an instance and then call a function which refers to that type, will it use the picked type?

I'll give it a go and find out I guess.
