    Personal and Business Licenses

    Personal License Subscription

    $99* USD per annum.

    This license is for personal use only and is not permitted for use by any businesses (including but not limited to LLCs, sole traders, corporations, non profits etc). Permitted users of this license are allowed of course to sell their games and make money, unlike Construct 2 there are no revenue limits.

    Start-up Business License subscription

    $149* per seat per annum.

    The Start-up Business License is for companies that have annual revenues of less than $50,000 USD AND net assets of less than $100,000 USD** . i.e. we are looking to help small companies with marginal resources, not start-ups which have substantial funding.

    Business License subscription

    $399* per seat per annum.

    This license is for use within businesses whatever Construct 3 is being used for. This may include prototyping, training, marketing, making games for sale or any other activity.

    Discounts

    Existing and New Construct 2 Personal and Business license customers

    Customers who purchase Construct 2 on or after 1st February 2017 (the launch announcement date) will be eligible 100% discount on the first year subscription price for a license of the same type or lower (where Business is the highest and Personal is the lowest).

    Customers who have purchased Construct 2 prior to February 1st 2017 will be eligible to a 50% discount on the first year subscription price for a license of the same type or lower.

    We realise there are some territories that force users who wish to sell their creations for profit will now not be covered by the Personal Edition (eg. Germany). We do not want you to miss out on these discounts and are working on a fair solution.

    Education license subscription

    The subscription price for education establishments is $39.99 USD* per seat per annum. This applies to all Schools, Universities and College education establishments whether publically or privately funded. By agreement with the company, this license may also be available to other organisations where the product is used for education purposes.

    The pricing effectively provides for a fixed number of concurrent users which may be utilised on-site or at a student’s home. Therefore take-home licenses are effectively included in the subscription price.

    Monthly Subscription

    There will be a monthly subscription option at $12.99* per seat per month for short term use.

    Existing and New Construct 2 Education license customers

    Existing Construct 2 customers with multi-year licenses will be able to continue to use Construct 2 for the remainder of their license term or to upgrade to Construct 3 for the remainder of the license term at no additional cost.

    The Construct 2 education license will be available through until the end of the 2018 academic year.

    Student License Subscription

    There will be a new Student License at $39.99* per annum. These licenses must be authorised by a full-time education establishment, however, that establishment does NOT have to have an Education License in order for their students to participate. They establishment will need to appoint an account holder in order to authorise students.

    Free Edition

    There will be a free edition of Construct 3 available.

  • After some emailing back and forth regarding the actual legal stance related to GraphicsRiver's license and unencrypted assets in released (Windows) desktop games, I asked for a definitive legal answer rather than "should be fine", and I have been moved up to level 3 support - to their legal department! Seems the situation is not as clear cut as it seems to be.

    The plot thickens... I'll keep you informed - might take a couple of days.

    I'm concerned that the asset in my game is easy to extract and wouldn't want to be held liable.

    Legal risk is a legitimate concern, but I'm yet to see any actual evidence that encrypting your game assets as people describe is a required step under licensed assets. Are there any more examples you have?

  • Reality of arcade is that the traffic is low quality - big numbers visiting arcade result in very few people exploring rest of the website.

    We have some ideas about allowing users to monetise their games better in the arcade but that's a long way off yet.

  • If we didn't give new users 1 year free, we risk all our revenue drying up because everyone new customers might choose instead to wait for Construct 3.

    Now I appreciate this is only a risk, but it's one we don't want to take. From a business point of view it's a bit of a vulnerable transition and it's important to keep sales going. Between now and end of Construct 3 beta is some months.

    Giving first year free for purchases now we consider a semi pre-order for Construct 3, and ensures that new customers won't have reason to hold off their purchases.

    We deliberated over this for a long time and felt that 50% discount off first year for existing customers was a good deal. If you don't think it's a good deal, that's fine as always we're not forcing you to take it.

    And what do you think happens if key people who maintain open source projects move on? Even open source projects have that sort of risk.

  • So the risk you are looking to mitigate here is us going out of business and totally stopping support of our products?

    If we did go completely out of business, shut the doors, and we all went and got other jobs and completely stopped selling Construct, Scirra is completely dissolved, at that point I don't see why we wouldn't give it away or open source it. I mean this event would currently appear to be highly unlikely.

    As others have pointed out, even though Construct 2 is buy once, if we go under in the future and a new bug is introduced by Windows, Chrome or any other supporting software what then? This is a risk with ALL software.

    Actually I was going to ask Tom if I could just get them to use some of what I've earned from the Scirra store to handle the fee for C3.

    This would be nice I appreciate that (same as using earnings to buy items in the store), but unfortunately it's a very difficult feature to write. Part of the problem is that it significantly complicates accounting processes, and makes refunds even more complicated (they are complicated enough!)

  • Thanks, am aware can see it logging me out a lot as well. Will look into this. We've just subscribed to a CDN to help relieve some bandwidth I believe it's something to do with that.
