  • Wow i didn't check it for a few days but we're at 296 now :O Almost 300

  • Haha no problem i just thought i'd put it in here in case you're planning on scaling

Unfortunately, i don't have much experience with the pathfinding behaviour myself. My Adventure Game is a sidescroller so i guess i can't be of much help :S My guess would be that there is probably a way to precalculate certain paths on layout loading so when the layout is ready, the character will move immediately since the paths have already been calculated but this is just an uneducated guess

  • Alex Francois who made "The Slaughter" which is a traditional PnC Adventure Game in Construct 2 has a great article on his blog about character scaling and such.

You can find it here: http://brainchildstudios.tumblr.com/

    Quote from the blog:

[quote:3ifvlaw2]After a lot of guess work and trial and error when trying to make a character scale realistically, I decided it was time to make a simple linear scaling algorithm that can be easily tweaked to the perspective of every scene. I’m pretty terrible at explaining, the image probably gives the clearer explanation but here’s my attempt anyway:

    Linear Scaling Algorithm:

    InitialScale+((Player.Y-a)*e)

Find the point in the layout’s Y axis at which you want your character to be at their normal scale, let’s call this (a).

Find the point in the layout’s Y axis which the player’s scale is at twice their normal scale, call this (b).

Find the difference from (a) to (b) on the Y axis which we call ©, and the difference from (a) to (b) in terms of scale, which we call (d).

Divide (d) by © which gives us (e)

Player.Y is the constantly tracked Y position of the player in the layout.

This works a treat and is very easy to tweak, especially if you set (a) to a variable which is changed with each scene. I hope this had made some tiny bit of sense, but if it hasn’t let me know!

    Might be worth checking out <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink">

  • Looks cool man

But i got a lot of friends in the Adventure Game Dev Community and i sing my praises on C3 all the time

In any case, keep it up, looks cool!

  • Hi guys

Sorry, i posted a thread about this yesterday but decided, to delete it again because i felt it was kind of poorly worded and that i wanted to think a little bit more about how i best communicate the idea and the channel in (hopefully) fewer words.

So without much ado, i opened a new Discord Channel called ConstructIVE. We are a group of Construct users who wish to build up a small, healthy, positive and, well, constructive Community and Platform for people who love working with Construct and want to see it grow as well as help each other as well as Scirra themselves.

So here is what we want to achieve with the channel:

+ Getting a positive vibe, where you can feel welcome and show things you're working on as well as get help and support if you have any questions.

+ Discussing the current developments of Construct in a useful way without overarching sarcasm or cynicism. I actually opened a "Think Tank" room, where you can share ideas for possible developments all the way up to mockups for "what if" scenarios.

+ Hopefully, one day down the line and if this thing goes anywhere, having a Developers Lounge, where we can exchange ideas or just talk to Scirra Devs but in a way that shows the mutual respect between us and them.

+ No engine is perfect, and we feel often times some concerns that might even seem legitimate are going nowhere for any number of reasons. Therefore i opened a separate channel where we can collect tests about performance stuff etc. and if there are real issues at hand, we can work out a solution together. Please note, that according to channel rules, these kind of issues require a project file so we can discuss them in a serious matter.

+ Most of all: HAVE FUN! There are many talented developers scattered around these forums, facebook groups, Twitter, Discord and so on. We want to bring them together for a constructIVE experience!

Unfortunately, there are also some things we really don't want to see on the Discord which include:

    • Restating of apparent shortcomings of the engine over and over without any attempt to actually help Scirra our the other users of fixing them.
    • We'd like to see some basic human courtesy to each other and, in case they would be interested in ever joining, the developers of Construct. This is not too much to ask and often times makes for a more productive environment in general.
    • Game Development in its very nature can be very rewarding but we all went through frustrating times. Still, defaulting to a snarky or overtly cynical attitude against C2/C3 never helped anyone either. We see a bright future for the engine and if you can't then this is probably not the Channel for you.
    • Insults or personal offenses are not being accepted in any way shape or form.
    • Posts like "C3 suckz, C2 ftw!" or "I hate browser based software" oooor "Subscription is bad" etc. These matters have been discussed in great length with Scirra already and they stated their reasoning multiple times. As of now, they'll just have to be accepted as fact.

Sounds like a pandering, safe space full of SJW refugees to you? Well, luckily there are many other offerings of communities around the Internet that might better suit your taste then <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile"> And i don't even mean this sarcastically <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

If it DOES however sound like something, you'd be interested to be a part of then please, join us now by following this link: https://discord.gg/T5mBaYW

    TL;DR: Want to be part of a helpful and constructive Construct channel? <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy"> Then please join our Discord today <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

Thanks to all ****** interested and have fun!

    Best,

    Joel

  • I'd be very interested in trying out Facebook Instant Games as well Is this possible with Construct 3 as of now?

  • It's specifically a feature for the new runtime so i wouldn't hold your breath. C2 is in maintenance mode now, no new features. Unfortunate but i really would advise giving C3 a go, it's the future and awesome. There, i said it.
