thx. ive overlooked the tools sub-forum =\</p>

  • Hello guys. To make a diffrence, i though that the time has came to give something back to the community.

As we all know, making games is mostly pain in butt, especialy if you are not Jack-Of-All-Trades - talented in all various areas of game developing progress. Many of us have our own speciality: we are graphic artists, music composers, 3d modellers, programmers ect. So when we are quite good in our area of speciality, we have lacks outside of our specialities. We offten find outself being unable to finish the game or make it better - because of those lacks. But internet is a huge place. And if you spent enough time - you can find lots of pearns and gems, hidden deep within ocean of mud. But this procces is quite time consuming, and we offten find ourself looking for the game assets and tools - rather then actualy working on our wonder game.

I for example, have the speciality which is propably the most under-rated and mostly ignored - i am a professional game writer. I write stories, quests, plot, eviroment, creatures, heroes, areas, structures - everything. But as i am a very untalented person i have my hands tied - as long as i wont find a way, to take my ideas and creations from my head - into reality. Thats why from 5 months ive spent alot of time researching various "tools" that could aid me in this procces, and do all the dirty work for me. And this is preety much most if not all of this research results.

But dont get fooled - i am not a flower-power hippy who shares everything he has with the world not wanting anything in exchange. All this tools took me hours, days and months to find and perhaps obtain. Some of them i belive to be a lone owner, or at least one of the chosen few ;)

I am sharing this, as i almost lost all my faith that i will be able to finish my games and make my dreams come true - but i fanaticly HATE wasting resources and selfish thinking. This tools are great for creating assets, but assets are wourthless - if you are unable to combain them into a working game. Maybe you will have more luck and talent then i have/had.

Ill try to provide you with the download link if the tool is freeware, otherwise itll be just a link to their website.

    So, to cut the chase:

    Animations/Special Effects/Graphics:

    World Machine 3D Terrain Generator

    Commercial

    http://www.world-machine.com/index.php

World Machine Original grew to become a highly popular application for the creation of landscapes and realistic looking geological features. World Machine 2 builds upon its predecessor and introduces a great set of new tools to enhance the way you create and texture your terrain.

what can i say? its a beast. And even a total rookie can wrap his head around this program in a flash. Rendering is quite fast too.

    ExGen

    Comersial

    http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2155

Explosions and Special Effects. They look good but making animated effects for games isn't as easy as it could be. ExGen is designed to fulfill all the special effects art requirements for your video games. Wrapped in an intuitive interface, the powerful ExGen system allows you to create a wide variety of effects which can then be exported as image's or an AVI animation file for instant use in your games. Texture objects with an explosion animation, or rising smoke, pulsating lights, lazer beams or anything else you can create.

Not bad, but far from Magic Particles power and user-friendly

    4 x Freeware Explosion Generators

Each one of them made by diffrent people. Cant remember where i got all of them. Ive packeted them into one rar. As always - download and use at your own risk. i dont take any responsibility if you PC will blow cuz of this.

    DoGa

    Shareware

    http://www.doga.co.jp/english/

The aim of DoGA is to spread the new born culture of computer graphics to the public, and progress on to the next stage where CG animation is just accessible like any other art form. There are full of animations we can enjoy on TV, in Cinema, on Video cassette, but they are all produced by professionals. The film produced an amateur can rarely be found. But producing a film is much more amusing than just watching them!

A bit old(heck! its almost older then me!) but still very handy. Think of it as Spore: Spaceship Creator from 1985 heh

This is something that propably none of you never heard of. Actualy, even accidently bumping this program over the internet is near to zero. But still, this is preety much the Holy Grail of mapping tools. It has everything from tile maping, blending - animations, SHITLOAD of assets, isometric view, top down, side scroll view. and its cheap

    CHARAS.EX

    Freeware

    http://charas-project.net/charas_ex.php?lang=en

    What's Charas?

It is a freeware tool, opened to everyone's collaboration. It works in avery special way: you can use it on the Internet! Charas is a charset generator for RPG Maker the beautiful Ascii tool to make Role Playing Games. Charsets are images that rapresents the moviment of a character on the screen. Because this images are so small (24x32 pixel), it isn't always easy create them from nothing. Because of this, RPG Maker already contains the RTP an already-made collection of charsets, chipsets etc. But, also there are lots of them, usually no one is exactly what we are looking for and, if we don't know how to draw it, we must choose the most similar to what we are looking. Charas will help in this case: with it you can select and put together five different elements to draw (quite from nothing) your charset. Is like a ind of Lego ?: it gives us the bricks and we build the building. Charas has also his strange (but useful!) possibility to set the trasparency of every used element, so you can build lots of effects.

A must have for any game dev that is working on a jRPG but not only. Easy to use and just cool

You've found a rare treasure trove of readable, thoughtful essays on game design theory, art and the business of design.

The guys doesnt lie. Its a bible for any game dev. period.

PS: ill try to update this thread when ill find something new.

i would also be very greatful if a mod would "stick" this thread - this forums are such a mess mainly because you mostly forget about "sticking" important threads.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • to many to enlist. especialy as some of them are rare gems that took me months to find and obtain =]

  • oh and i just though of it:

    multi-texturing of 3d Object (normals,bump ect).

  • heres the cap:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15566547/planet.cap

    heres the obj

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15566547/PlanetBlank.OBJ

(be sure to have those two in one folder)

    whats my problem:

1.first of all i dont see the 3d object from editor. it is just invisible. it is visible ingame thought and in a correct way. and it BECOMES visible in editor when i clone it with CTRL key and draging. i dont know if its a bug or not

    2. to simulated shadow over planet i decided to make a shadow sprite and put it on top of that d object. and i must say it works perfectly... for a few seconds. After that, with planet rotation some parts of the shadow starts to stick out and in from/on planet 3d object. i dont know what cuases this as i have set both position equal and theres no position changing.

    3. i wanted the shadow to be more dynamic so i wanted him to rotate when i press "->" and "<-" arrows. but to my suprise the Shadow sprite doesnt move at all. ive first used

when arrow key pressed -> rotate cloclwise/counter clockwise

    then i used set angle Shadow.angle +10

and it failed too. what i do wrong?

    4. is there a way to include obj files in exe?

    5. how to make the sphear act as one...? >_> i mean, to remain round regardless of where the player is (at this point it becomes more like an egg when player is far away)

    6.

  • i would too like to report this bug. previewing wavs works fine though.

  • nobody is trying to flame/troll you, they are just trying to tell you that right now it is NOT possible to use large images at backgrounds and they are also telling the different methods/workarounds you can use to achieve that effect/whatever that is. But you are just ignoring their advice and saying that you want to use a big image in construct, if it is not possible how you can do it.

No doubt that construct devs are bright minds but they are not superhumans, they are working on construct as a hobby project. Whine/request about new features when construct goes commercial they'll be working on it full time.

Go back and read the thread again and use your mind how you can implement the ideas others have suggested. If you can't find a way then just increase the minimum specs required to play your game.

you are missing the point too.

you think that if you say something 1000 times itll make anybody understand it better then at the very 1st one...? whats next? that the sky is blue in a sunny day?

if this is what you got fromthis thread i belive it is you who should read this whole thread with special attention to my posts.

i am "suggesting". you either agree or disagree. and the only thing ive had recived so far is telling me that the wheel is round. isnt that just obvious?

i agree that the thread derailed much. but if you wont ask - you wont get.

disscusion is what pulls the attention to crusial issues.

i agree i myself derailed this thread quite a bit but to be honest i am the one who feel totaly ignored. i am yaling at you "this would be a great addition to construct" and what i get?

"its not possibile". well gee wiz, then why not to MAKE it possible? you think the devs have mind reading powers? how can they know what users want if you wont tell them? and if many people will request Feature X to be added - then "maybe" it will.

but yeah. i think ill stop now. its like hiting a brick wall with my own head. wall will remain but my head will get hurt.

you know i actualy bother myself to do a little "sanity check" on myself and ive asked 4 friends of my to visit this thread without knowing i am the thread starter, and tell me what do they think. lemme quote one of them:

[21:31] BlackWolf: i have to point out that i cant understand most of what they are saying but i can see how they are avoiding the subject
[21:31] BlackWolf: they simply refure to supply an awnser OR do anything about it[/code:yx88fj9b]

    so yeah.

    and
[quote:yx88fj9b]It is upsetting that because of your single minded approach, you consider the wealth of information given to you a waste of your time.

from page two - yes it actualy was a waste of time, but i didnt asked for it. maybe pay more attention to what people are saying next time before you accuse them of having "single minded approach".
    i gave a question
    i got answear
then i asked another question (why?)
then i got a stream of the same previous answeares.

    i am off.
  • check the game ini files. you can actualy make the universe bigger... and not only. but ill leave that for you to find out and the game is very moddble.

if you like space exploration take a look also at:

    http://games.softpedia.com/get/Freeware ... tion.shtml

it follow the Weird World spirit quite strongly.

  • you people really dont get the message do you...

fine, then remain as you are. after all - progress blows right...? >_>

you are just like B. Gates who once said "640K ought to be enough for anybody".

you think i enjoy bringing this over and over? you think i value my time wasting on brining up this big images issue? did you asked yourself "why this guy is so persistant?" ?

because lack of big images is what handicappes both my game and my workflow with Construct. Because THIS is the most common issue for most new non-programer users of Construct.

look around you. everybody would die for Construct having better big pictures handling, cant you see that? cant you see how many things it would solve and make easier/better?

i know that all your pro's have all the Construct mastery in you one finger - but we dont.

or maybe you just enjoy this situation? being the lone kings of the hill.

fine, but dont expect Construct become any more popular then he is now.

i like Construct. from all the engines ive researched this is the best. best - but not perfect.

its because i like Construct so much i write all this, its because i CARE.

i know that every time i make a new thread a group of users goes "Ohhhh him again...". but perhaps instead of playing the "i am so cool and ironic" role you should stop for a brief moment and think about what this guy is saying. Maybe then he will look so stupid no more.

sorry if i offended anyone or apeared to be rude but thats my thoughts, this is what i think. And if i am famous for anything - it is for voicing my opinion regardless of the circumstances (of course, in range of sanity)

  • but hey, theres something just not right.

Anybody of you ever heard of Infinity Engine? it was used for Baldrus Gate saga, Icewind Dale, Planescape... for every area there was used at least one "map" image. and to be honest those images are huge. the biggest i remember was 5120/3584 pix. see for yourself: http://www.blackwyrmlair.net/~chevar/Co ... AR2800.rar

And IE engine is like a dinosour.

What my point is - Construct is not worst right? i am here not to point that Construct is worst then something. I am just saying that if others can why not to make Construct too be able to handle such features?

I mean, Construct developers are quite a birght minds right? find a way then, you can do it. You are not worst then them right?

Please dont flame/attack/troll me for wanting something whats already available for many others.

(Sidenote: yes i am sure about IE using FULL not sliced images of the map as i am a veteran modder of that engine. i dont know what "technique" the IE engines uses for handling such giant images but the bottom line is: he handles)

  • scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php

    aaaaaahhh....damn.

    then i am screwed lol

  • so okey ive made an experiment.

ive made two layouts with the same 1000/1000pix image.

first is the whole image second is the image sliced for 100 smaller images 100/100pix each.

    results:

    Big image:

    Vram Target: 3.00 mb

    VRAM textures: 4.06 mb

    VRAM total: 7.06 mb

    Big image sliced:

    VRAM target 3.00 mb

    VRAM textures: 6.31 mb

    VRAM total: 9.31 mb

    wth? O.o

  • depends what type of sprites you need. i make all of them myself, or should i say: i have 2nd party programs that generate them for me. this way i am not limited by their default state and i can get preety much any angle of them, animated or not.

so what do you need exactly?

  • Folders for Object bar, for Global Variables, more visiual array plugin(think:Excel like sheet)(btw is it just me or like everybody are asking for this...?), reversed particles, more animation angles(more then 8), better high res images handling , being able to change things for many objects of the same type at once(think:selecting many sprites and making all of them e.g solid), being able to update/modify sprites at runtime(think: erasing part of the sprite, destruction), sound files being also stored/hidden in exe, export to swf/flash, proper video plugin, 3D camera, timescale that actualy LOOKS like timescale(slider style), drag and drop order modification in Object Tab, being able order objects by numerical value (1,2,3 ect), being able to modify behaviours in more wide scope, drag-and-drop AI defining(RPVX style: move->direction, turn, move, stop, wait, move ect), displaying many layouts on the same screen at the same time... and thats it... for now.
