  • Hi everyone,

I've been working on a new game.

It's a counting game I made for my son as he's having trouble with some basic math stuff at school.

The idea is you go through a jungle, adding and subtracting. The sums get (a bit) harder as you go on, and there's a leaderboard system at the end.

Kids can level up their character and compare their rank with other players.

I've uploaded it to my domain as I'm having a few issues with .otf files and the Scirra arcade.

Thanks for checking it out. :))

  • Just a quick follow up.

I deleted all cache and cookies and restarted. It's working now.

  • Hi

Not sure if this is a bug, or something to do with this being a browser based application, but what do I do when I get this message?

I've tried restarting, quitting Chrome and trying again.

Before I get into more detail - I just wanted to check if this was a common thing, or if it was a case of 'wait it out'.

    Thanks

    Tom

  • Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I've added a bit of a save system so you can quit from the pause menu and keep going later. Also fixed a few bugs while I was on.

The save state in Construct 3 is ridiculously simple. So hard to do in some other engines. They've done a great job with that.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Sysads

Wow thanks for playing for that long and the feedback. I'll work on those bugs today. That's so valuable. Thank you!

The graphics are all from Spriter, yup. I draw the characters in Artrage, export the body parts to png and then do the animations in Spriter.

The workflow is a bit fiddly to get working with Construct 3, but there's some good youtube tutorials on it, and the spriter plugin is really good for Construct 3.

    Thanks again!

  • Yeah I bought Spriter so long ago I forgot I had it installed p) It was a nice surprise.

Reading the forums today it looks like the mesh deform never happened. Although they do keep the Construct plugin up-to-date so maybe they'll get to it.

    It would be awesome.

    Cheers!

    Tom

  • That's seriously impressive!

Might have to try that out. I use Spriter a lot and would LOVE mesh deform if they do it on that.

  • Thanks GamerDude :)

Really appreciate you having a shot on my game!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Also, if anyone wants to download the Construct 3 file for this game, to use as a template or just have a laugh at my 'code' then please do

It's done on the paid version so I don't know if it will run on the non-paid C3.

    Thanks

  • Hi Freid

Thanks to you (and your son!) for checking out my game. I'll sort that bug out now. Weird all the things you miss when you're testing your own game, huh?

I'm using Spriter for the animations in the game. Spriter has an absolutely fantastic plugin for Construct 3 that does a lot more stuff than I need, but it's impressive how much work they've put into it.

You can do some cool stuff with Spriter but I like it because it saves time. Rather than drawing loads of 'frames' you just make some body parts and tween the movement. It also gives you hundreds of frames of movement with very little spritesheet size.

If anyone wants my spriter animations to use in their own work, or mess around with them, feel free to download them here scaryhamster.com/games/SpriterAnimations.zip

I'm not the best animator but I like using spriter. :)

Thanks again for playing the game. :)))

  • Wow the artwork on your game is amazing.

Especially combined with the lighting FX.

Heading over to Itch to check it out.

    Nice work.

  • Hi SizCoz :)

Thanks for checking the game out.

I'll look into getting it onto mobile and how to do it.

    Thanks!

    Tom

  • Hi Vinnie and Allan.

Can't thank you enough for checking out the game!

    I'll fix those bugs now.

    Much appreciated, thank you

  • Got some good feedback on the game and have altered a few things, including the pause menu and fixed some bugs. The frame rate was really bad on mobile thanks to using blend mode, opacity and a color FX on a couple of big sprites.

I've also uploaded my first ever game to Ich.io

    firepumpkin.itch.io/alien-defense

Like everything, Construct 3 makes that super easy too - you just upload the .zip that Construct exports with the HTML5 option. Nice!
