  • Hi Cascade Games!

Some things i've learned over the past couple years:

    1. Audience: When starting a new business enterprise, focus on WHO first, because that will drive everything else. For example: Who is your target audience? Can you tell us how many people fit within that audience? Do you know, as a fact and not a hunch, where those people go to find tools like your app? These things should be rock solid before you start investing your time into something. (I am only now realizing the wisdom in this, after also putting 2 years into my app).
    2. Marketing: If you dont have a following/platform to announce your newly published game, you really are wasting all that time you just invested. I think we developers like to work on the fun stuff, like adding new animations and add cool new features, but this is only half the battle. The marketing/advertising/etc is equally important as all those hours you put into Construct. Some tips in this are would be: Go hangout where your customers hang out and get some reputation there. Use Facebook advertisements as a research tool and not as a way to increase downloads.
    3. Product: Is your app a 'painkiller' or a 'vitamin'? These are not my terms, but terms coined by Arvid Kahl in Zero to Sold. Anywho, I bring it up because I think its a really good way to remember this concept: We developers need to make things that actually save our users time/money/health, because these are the things that they will give us money for. We need to really fix a major pain-point in their lives. Most of us (me included) have spent hours creating a 'vitamin', which is to say, our customers can use it to make their lives better, but they can go without it if they choose to do so. This is fine in some ways, but if we have the chose between the two, and we DO have this choice, we should choose the former and not the latter.
    4. Pivoting: We developers need to get better at not seeing our apps as our 'babies'. It makes getting feedback so much harder. It is something that I have gotten better at over time. The trick is to just say NOTHING and LISTEN. As Uncle Elon says, "If it needs an instruction manual, it's broken". Taking this one step further, we need to be willing to kill it if its not working, or at least drastically 'pivoting' into a new area (which we have THIS TIME done our due diligence and followed all the other things I mentioned prior to this).

I could go on, but mayhaps no one cares about these pontifications.

  • Any update ?

  • Try to turn off the Worker mode (helps me on different releases) or preloading sounds (read somewhere, helped someone)

Hiya reviver200! Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both and it didn't fix the bug.

For now I have just reverted back to the 260 stable build.

  • Sorry, I went back to your site and reread it more carefully. That's why I deleted my original post.

Thank you for the in depth explanation. I signed up!

  • I tried to preview and it locked up.

I think it probably had something to do with the change in storage.

'Failed to start preview. Try reloading Construct 3 before trying again.'

I have reloaded. I have tried in Microsoft Edge. I have tried in Chrome. I have tried changing the Android settings from legacy to http. Nothing works

  • Hi friends! I saw that in the latest update we can now use 'lineThickness' in conjunction with 'outline'.

Could someone please give an example of what this code would look like?

  • Just delete it and add a new one by right clicking on the prior event.

Like Allen said, that one has been 'orphaned'. You killed it's parents. Good job.

  • Easiest way is to get this addon, but it is quite expensive. Definitely worth the money in my opinion though.

  • Agreed. This is a major flaw in the multiplayer system. If the host minimizes their game, everything stops working.

  • Great job!! mayhamurasaki

I have also been working with the native multiplayer plug in quite a lot. To fix the private/public room, I just made the 'instance name' private or public.

    - Game name: Fun_Game_v2

    - Instance name: Private

    - Room name: BobsGame

Do you have any issues with the Scirra server? Ie; Does it run consistently or does it slow down?

Do you use mostly sync options, message options, or an equal balance of both?

How do you deal with players that have very poor internet?

  • Hi friends,

I have been having an issue where a late-coming peer (joining the game after the others have started) is unable to receive 'client update' trigger and/or set its client input state.

    - Everything works just fine if all the host/peers join at the same time

    - The late-comer peer is able to see the syncd movements of the other players

    - If I disable the 'on client update' trigger, the peer can locally set the setbits, but is still unable to 'send' this data to the peer via the 'set client input state'

Any ideas what could be interfering with the 'client update' trigger but at the same time not interfering with the object sync?

  • I have one more to add to my wishlist:

    - synced strings variables in multiplayer

  • Ok let's dream :p

    - A web 3D engine

    - Live co-editing (à là Google Docs)

    Yesh, thish.

In my opinion, ARVR is going to replace all things with screens and 2D will be relegated to ever smaller use cases. C3 just has no way to compete in this potential future. This is a real shame, because I absolutely love the Eventsheet system and just the whole vibe I get from Construct. The Scirra team has done a great job of translating all the unnecessary code shtuff.

But again, if Scirra wants to stick their head in the ground and continue their line that 'Construct is a 2d games engine' then they will be increasingly less useful as time goes on.

With that said, I do think they are trying to figure this out. I recently started playing with the 3D objects and I think they are pretty cool. And, I say all this in love <3

  • Could you please provide this c3p again? I am super stumped on the same issue.
