  • Tom if I had the time, I would setup a Construct Wiki - but sadly I don't!

    Which manual entries are missing?

it's more like information is missing. Each subject or function is represented, it's just less than the minimum information.

For example, (as I already stated in this thread) if you want to know what happens to an object after the Create Action there is no information. You cannot reference those newly created objects until the next top-level event. If you do reference them, Construct will act like they don't exist - because they technically don't. But no where in any of the doc can you find this info.. it's on the forums...somewhere...

There's a good amount of information missing from the manual just like this example.

The manual should NOT be a "How To" that is what tutorials are for. When I mentioned the manual having example code, honestly I was saying that because a lot of languages do that since its the quick and dirty way to explain a manual entry, just show how its used and there's no reason to write any other words!

  • is there a way to make spritefonts with this tool and shut off anti-aliasing?

  • yeah I think it's kind of a big ask, one which I don't think is even on Scirra's radar.

I would love if they at least had some sort of tool to convert projects and make them compatible by deleting all code that wouldn't work correctly.. then at least you could open newer projects, even if A) they didn't work properly and/or B) they had a bunch of things removed in them.

  • I don't know.. it doesn't seem like you are approaching this like a problem to be solved and rather just want something fixed for you. You seemed to be reacting instead of being active.

Nothing has changed with the physics behavior since C2, and even if they broken something without knowing there has to be a fix or a work around. What you are saying isn't working is just not that complex (setting density).

I understand it can be frustrating, but honestly, welcome to the world of programming! I once made an app in Objective-C for iOS and Apple one day changed how certain functions worked which definitely broke my game - since it was already deployed to the App Store. Do you think Apple cared? nope. I had to fix my code.

This is always a possible risk that some update may break something.

  • btw not having your objects in your Layout will cause a big lag spike when you go to do a 'Create' since it will need to load them into memory after the layout has already started.

I suggest adding in the objects and Destroying them on Start of Layout, just so they are already loaded into memory.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • just add a Wait 0 before you set the density which will wait for it to get to the end of the sheet.

    drive.google.com/open

    (this uses r/148)

  • if you can't recreate the same behavior in /r142 then I think you need to maybe investigate what you recently changed.

I know its easy to want to blame an update, and I myself have done it a bunch of times. But its a common occurrence since Construct is updated so often..

Recently I "updated" (btw updating is the wrong term - since nothing actually gets updated, you instead just start going to a different link) to r/148 and I happened to be testing something in a game I've been working on. I noticed the gamepad was not responding properly. I was going crazy trying to figure it out. I assumed something broke in Chrome or in r/148. Turns out, I had a crash a few days before because of a while loop and I ended up losing data. Ashley told me to use Worker mode to prevent crashes from ruining my editor session. But failed to mention that Worker doesn't respond the same at all. So when I turned Worker off, everything works.

So you may need to research changes you have made in your game recently and back track from there...

  • sounds like your issue is unrelated to r148

but you can recreate the part that is NOT working in editor.construct.net/r142 and see if that fixes it.

Not sure how big your project is.. but open one tab in r/142 and another tab in r/148 and copy paste over all your objects and events...

EDIT: oh nevermind, it won't let you cut/paste between tabs right?

It was not my intention to use the beta version in the classroom.

I wanted to show the students the new Timeline feature, so I went into beta, then mistakenly stayed in beta when viewing class material. I hit save once and then I had to be in beta every time I opened that particular project. (I've tried to roll back projects to earlier versions without success - unlike how easy it was with C2).

Then it happened again when I was helping a student - I saved their project without realizing I was in beta, then they needed to be in beta in order to open it. And it literally spread like a virus from there...so then I just stayed in beta.

It's 100% my own fault, I was merely reporting how I thought it was confusing here on the forums. I never quite understood that editor.construct.net loaded the current stable version. In fact at the time I didn't realize you could get to other versions with /r142 etc... I thought it literally updated the computer you were on. I'm sure there were times I thought I was in beta but wasn't.

Ideally when I performed a SAVE, if there was a popup that warned I was saving to newer version of the software probably would have saved me grief. But I realize that is fraught with problems, since the user could have added something only available in that update, then it becomes an ordeal for the user and the program.

  • Ashley I think you need to reread that post, that was a rhetorical question. As in: I was asking myself what is going on? If you read the rest of it you will see that I know the answer, as I said: "it took me a minute to figure out what was going on"...

I'm not trying to be negative or insensitive or anything, I'm just telling you the system is confusing. I teach Construct to a class of 16 students and I literally see their confusion. And I understand because it was confusing to me.

  • Ashley, btw Gamepad doesn't trigger properly using Worker Mode. I can reproduce it in my project. However it won't reproduce in a small stand alone project which makes me think it's performance related since my project is large. Is Worker Mode sensitive to performance? more-so than non-worker mode?

  • I just noticed that my xbox controller is sometimes triggering 2 events?

i.e. on 1 press of the A button I get two Triggered Events

I thought my controller was messed up, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. And first it was fine, then I went to play again and the same happened. In many years of using gamepads with construct (even the same gamepad) I have not seen this ever happen.

Could it be a Chrome bug? I'm using C3 r148

I also tried my game pad here

    html5gamepad.com

    and it seems fine

EDIT: yeah it's only happening in Construct not on that website - although I will say it might be hard to see on that wedsite if it's triggering twice.

ALSO it does NOT trigger twice every button press.. it's more like every few presses

EDIT 2: it might be my game because I can't reproduce it in a test project. but I have no idea why its happening. more testing....

EDIT 3: I've noticed sometimes when you press A button, nothing happens, then when you press it again you get two. my only event is On X Pressed with no other conditions. I don't understand what is happening.

EDIT 4: its somehow performance related - I haven't figured it out. but one time I hit the A button and 3 bullets fired and it triggered the sound effect 3 times all on top of eachother.

EDIT 5: trying to rollback to an earlier beta version /r146 and after modifying the c3p file it opens but won't run.. it's only a black screen. This gamepad problem was not happening a few days ago. I haven't changed that much to the code. This sucks..

EDIT 6: figured it out... its the Worker Mode in Advanced options.. for some reason it can't handle Gamepad input properly... that's BAD!! that was a fun 2 hours!!

  • sure..you can post pics to the forums. or just create a sample project and mock-up what you are trying to do in a simplified version, then share it here.

  • give the spawner the Timer Behavior. It works just like setting an alarm on your phone.

You need a single Trigger to kick off the timer when the spawner stops moving. Then when the timer goes off, spawn another spawner (or whatever).

How are you moving the spawner? set position or with a behavior?
