Ofcourse, now that we have 3D camera and mesh distortion there are likely many ways to implement it that are much more performant.

Wow that's so cool! Amazing, will definitely look into it right now, see what can be done about performance, seems to me the draw distance is high for example, could have some kind of foggy BG to have a shorter and yet nice DD.

Hi everyone!
I'd like to know from you, what would be the best aproach to such racing game design?
If you are not familiar with the road rash series, it's like this:

So many other games are like this, but road rash comes to my mind. Now since
these games have a start and end to each race, I could do a gigantic tall image for the track and scroll it but that is so unproductive, uneffective...
