  • Hello,

We're having problems with our nw.js Mac export. The game often has the red loading bar issue and hangs on start up.

This is a serious issue for us and we need to find find a solution. Our Windows export works fine, no problems, only Mac has these problems.

sqiddster how did you get your Mac release up and running on Steam? I'm having no luck with the nw.js builds here: https://www.scirra.com/nwjs

Is there a build not featured that works? Do you have download links?

I've seen that you've done a lot of research into which nw.js builds work best, have you had any luck with Mac builds?

Ashley any ideas on a fix for this?

If there is a reliable fix, but it takes time to set up, we are happy to pay a good rate for someone to come and help us out on this. Please either post here or get in touch.

    Thank you.

D'oh! - been a long day! I hooked it up and it's a perfect fix to the problem. Works nicely. I really appreciate the help. Thank you.

  • rexrainbow Thank you! Your plugin would be fantastic, exactly what I'm looking for. But unfortunately I am getting an error on C2 start up after placing it in the plugin folder:

[quote:8ixdigkf]Unable to load plug in: `E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Construct2\Construct2-Win64\exporters\html5\plugins\rex_text_properties\` : Found `GetPluginSettings` global, but it is not a function. This plugin will not be available in the editor.

Do you know what might be causing that problem?

  • Hi there,

I wondered if anyone knew how we could change the text wrapping property of a text box (from word to character) in game?

The reason for this is language support. Our game is being developed in English and Japanese, we have the branching dialogue script as separate XML files and use the ajax plug in, this works fine with no problems.

The issue is that Japanese needs character wrapping and English needs word wrapping. There is not a text action to change the text wrapping property.

There are a few work arounds – using a separate (invisible) text box for Japanese and switching which is used based on language selection, or hard formatting the XML.

But the cleanest way would be to simply switch the text box wrapping feature from word to character.

Can anyone think of a way to do this? Am I missing something obvious? Or Ashley could this be added as a text box action?

    Thank you.

  • Looks great!

Could you share some technical details?

    1. What version of nw.js are you using?

    2. How are you finding the frame rate / stuttering / memory management (layout flushing)?

    3. How large is the game; number of art assets / total mbs?

    4. What is your memory usage looking like at it's peak?

    5. Were you able to get full Steam support working (achievements / cards)?

    6. What has been the biggest technical hurdle in bringing the game to Steam? How did you overcome it?

    7. What advice do you have / Something you wish you knew / about putting a C2 game on Steam?

    Thank you.

    That's fantastic news!

    MadSpy Amazing work, thank you.

But the problem, as I understand it, is that NW12 still suffers from a V-sync bug. Ashely mentioned earlier in this thread:

[quote:1k92978g]The latest non-alpha version is based on a version of Chromium with a pretty bad v-sync bug

So though we could use NW12 with MadSpy 's plugin update, won't we just run into the v-sync / jank issues until a version of NW is released based on a version of Chromium that has fixed the problems?

If the official Steam plug-in is updated now, won't we still be in a position of not having a good Steam solution and needing another update once we have a bug free version of NW.js available? or does NW12 not have this problem?

I'd be interested to know what version of Chromium fixed the v-sync issues? NW.js 12.3 is based on Chromium 41.0.2272.76

Ashely Thank you for letting us know what's happening, really appreciate it.

Colludium I agree. It's a problem that needs a good solution, we ran quite a successful Kickstarter for our game, so need to make sure everything will work smoothly for the Steam release next year. Ideally with updated nw.js

Ashley it would be great if you could join this discussion. Has the official Sicrra Steam plug-in been abandoned? Would it be possible for you to help the community find a solution? I think without at least knowing Scirra's stance on this it makes it incredibly difficult for the community to find a solution.

Ashley digitalsoapbox greenheartgames We (Cherrymochi) would be happy to contribute funding to have the problems ironed out of the Greenworks Construct 2 plug-in and kept up to date with nw.js. Who is the best person to speak to about this?

  • +1 for this. Sorry if it seems obvious, but how can I remake the pin behavior in events?

  • Yeh, I was going for a light-friendly-festive way to let them know something has gone wrong, rather than a rant.

    I thought the line:

I'm afraid your youthful urgency to relive me of my money on your bundles is beginning to cause me troubles.

    would have given it away.
