  • Hi, Silverforce. As someone who works for a film production company, I can tell you that video game marketing is very similar. Essentially, it all boils down to the quality of your game. Is it fun? What sort of demographics are you targeting? Are there similar games out there? Is it a free game or a paid app? These are just a few questions every player has on their mind, and questions you should have answers for. There are TONS of legitimate review sites out there looking for quality games to review, because those games boost page views for the site, which is a win-win for all parties involved. Since your game is an indie production, a few to check out would be Indiemag, Gamejolt, IndieDB, App Spy, etc. A simple google search for "indie game review sites" will provide you all you need. There's also Reddit, where you can post to r/indiegaming, r/androidgaming, r/pcgaming, r/steam, and more. You can also contact "Let's Play" youtube channels to review your game. DON'T limit yourself to a few forums and "hope for the best", and inversely, NEVER pay for a review. Nobody frequents paid review sites, because they're crap. Do your research, contact all the resources I mentioned, and don't give up until you start seeing your hard work pay off.

  • Forgetting the fact that the 'Flappy Bird' concept has been done to death, I think your app needs an entire makeover. I'd start with cleaning up the graphics. I'm not sure what program you're using, but it looks like MS Paint. I recommend GIMP (if you need a free program) or Adobe Photoshop (if you can afford it). Flappy Bird at least looked polished, but this app has a ways to go to reach "completed" status. Also, the challenge is nonexistent here. Make the bars closer to one another so the player has a smaller gap to pass through, speed it up, and increase the gravity a bit. Add something unique to the game as well. There are a few out there that allow the player to get "powerups" when they reach certain milestones, and there are other games that change the character's appearance after they've reached a milestone. Consider that there are hundreds of Flappy Bird knockoffs all trying to become "the next big thing", so do something that places your game at the top of the pack.

  • Interesting game! I can honestly say I haven't played a word game quite like this before. I have to ask though if you were trying to make a statement with it, hehe. I only ask because there's a minority group of scholars who want words to be spelled exactly how they sound when you say them out loud, which is the purpose of this game. Either way, very clean and fun to play! Several of them were quite difficult.

  • Mother of God.....YES. That is it exactly. Thanks so much! This is the best community ever.

  • Alright. How should I send it to you?

  • I got it! I just set the sys wait timer to 0.25secs, set the player's position to the checkpoint, set the player invisible, set the sys wait timer to 0.25 secs again, then set the player visible. This is probably the most ghetto way of getting the job done, but I'm all ears if somebody has a better suggestion

  • I've created rooms that move the player in between layouts, but when I return to the original layout the entire layout is restarted. Is there a condition or variable I need to create to prevent this?

  • Wait, I figured something out. I originally had the player disabled, system wait for 1 second, spawn, and then player enabled. I took out the system wait and now the player spawns just fine, however, I need the system to wait for a second before spawning, so it looks smooth.

  • Nope, it still does it regardless of where I place the node. On the ground, in the sky, under the ground, etc. I've moved it all over the place, but the player still freaks out for a second.

  • Quick question again. When my player spawns at the checkpoints he freaks out and shakes violently before landing on the ground and becoming playable again. Have I done something wrong? I basically copied everything from your event sheet and wrote it in mine.

  • Wonderful. Thanks so much man. This is a great headstart for me.

  • Holy. Crap. This is freaking perfect. Thanks so much dude! And I imagine it would work just fine even if I gave the player unlimited lives, correct? i.e. getting rid of the "subtract 1 life from player" line?
