  • Hey guys!

I was trying to publish one of my game on itch.IO and I came across that problem.

I can play the game just fine on my computer and on my phone. There is no bug report of any kind when I run the debug mode.

I export it with the HTML5 preset, untill then everything is going just fine. But when I .zip it up and upload it on itch.IO, I get that message:

"Archive contains filename with non UTF-8 Encoded characters" And the game is not launching.

It happened once to me and the only solution was to remake the entire game from scratch...

Do you have any clue on how I can solve that problem?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I just got into Transistor (On sale on Steam!). Extraordinary artistic direction, super smooth fight sequences, a great game! It's from Super Giant Games, who previously made Bastion.

I also got Strange Deep, and even if I was pretty interested at first, it ended up being super boring. But it's a pre-release so we'll see.

  • As an industrial designer, I was asked, during interviews, which softwares I knew ( 3D modeling and drawing/sketching).

And let me tell you it's like a fashion. When Rhino was starting to be hype in the design industry, then Rhino was a must have on your resume...

As a result, most people ended up lying.

    • A// Because most of recruiter don't know what those softwares are. And they just need to check a box. Do you know Unity? yes/no. You're in or you're out.
    • B// Software isn't that hard to learn... I switched from 3Dsmax to Maya, to Alias, to whatever you name it. Most of those softwares have hundred of tutorials on youtube, books and a good forum/community.

If they ask you to learn Unity for a really interesting internship, just say you're familiar with it and you're always curious about the new add-on and functionality of it. Learning a coding language in the other hand is absolutely impossible in a short amount of time... And by that I mean less than 2 or 3 years...

I fully agree when people say it's the result that is important and the tool is just a way to get there. Look at the Unreal Engine. It's for free, but do you have the skills to make a full high poly AAA game? No way, remember that Ubisoft's studio that makes Assasin Creed's has more than 1000 people, Candy crush represent at least 200 full time employees... Remember you can only do so much. They're maybe testing you're ambition and ability to learn new stuff. Just say you do have what it takes and look confident, check videos on youtube, get familiar with the basics, and learn because that's what internship are for.

  • It's really annoying. I've been trying to mute it, stop it in another event, using other audio files, the result is always the same. Either it plays continuously through all layout, or it just stop after the first layout...

  • Hello!

I'm trying to have different background musics on differents levels.

So I uploaded some music files and I can't get them to play correctly.

Basically I have a homepage/menu with a background music tagged "menumusic".

-On start of layout// Audio- play "menumusic" looping, -10db,

Then, I start the game and go to the layout/stage01:

On start of layout// Audio-Stop "menumusic"

    Audio-Play "stage01music"looping,-10db

When I test my layout trought my browser it's fine and every song is playing invidualy as it should. But then when I'm trying to start from the menu stage and go to the stage01. The "menumusic" stop but the other one doesn't start. I only have the sounds that play and no background music.

I tryed to ditch the Audio Stop :"menumusic", and then the music from the homepage will continue playing endlessly trought the different layouts. The others background music won't start...

I tryed to get to the "global"setting of the music but I only have that option for objects.

I have a personnal license, if that affects the possible options.

Meanwhile the sounds are perfectly playing.

Does anyone of you have a clue? Thanks you so much in advance!

  • I precise that the loading froze or get stuck even if I try it in Internet Explorer and on Safari.

  • So, I made some test.

-I tried to upload the game without the music. Same problem the loading bar goes all the way but the game doesn't start. It's stuck to the loading icons page.

-I tried to upload of the game with the Loader layout ON and the loading bar was way faster to go all the way but the game is still stuck.

-I tried another game exported the same way. And It work perfectly. So I will eliminate any problem with Itch.IO

-I checked the debug mode, and it doesn't show anything.

I precise that the game works in the Construct2 preview on Chrome and with my phone.

  • Hey guys!

I uploaded a game on Itch.IO with a .ZIP made from a game exported in the HTML5 option on Construct2.

The game seems to start properly but when it's loading, the bar goes almost all the way but stop at like just a tiny bit before completing. And then nothing...

Do you have any idea why? Or how can I modify something so it works?

Thanks so much for the help!

  • Hello guys!

I saw couples of topics on player's movement on specific rail. Like a Guitar Hero type of game for example.

My problem is that I'm able to have the sprite of the player move on the rails so the game is playable and works.

But I wasn't able to have a smooth transition like in the attachment, more something like a game&watch. As I'm designing that game for touch screen devices, I would like to be fluid and that a tap on the top or the bottom of the sprite would start the movement. I made a little schema to explain myself.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Thanks 303Mark!

So to be honest, this is the first game I upload as a professional. And I made it voluntarily very simple and very "accessible". Projects with way more work in and with a deeper game experience are coming really soon (Check some of them on the website: ). But just to set up a little contest on an easy access platform (Kongregate). I had to keep it simple.

Did you uploaded you picture on the Facebook page?

In the meantime, I'm also open to collaboration. If you have a great idea of a game but need graphic assets. I'm more than willing to work on other people games.

  • Hello guys,

I finally created my own studio and lunching my very first game on Kongregate!

Check out the website at: http://www.simiusgamestudio.com

In order to make some promotion I'm started a little contest. Play the game for free, put a screenshot of your highscore in the comment section, and if you have the highest one, you win one of my production drawing!

More infos on the facebook page. Good luck and thanks for the support!
