  • I'm new to this wonderful world of gaming, and have no experience using gamepads, only the boring keyboard.

Now it'd also be nice to be able to test my games fully, but which gamepad is the best to cover most needs of the average gamer?

Should work properly with games built with Construct 3, steam games I am playing, on Linux. Don't need anything super fancy or expensive, just a device which can handle all the kinds of input combinations.

    Suggestions are welcome, thanks.

  • Have you tried Menu > Project > Remote Preview ?

  • Okay, this makes sense. The reason I was asking was because in an older Construct 2 video tutorial, this was possible, at least according to the instructions, but I was unable to reproduce it in Construct 3.

  • I have a game event sheet located under Event sheets > Game > GameEvent.

I also have a player keyboard event sheet located under Event sheets > Player > Input > KeyboardInput.

Within the game event sheet I have a group called Player which in turn contains a sub-group called Input, e.g GameEvent > Player > Input.

When I try to insert the KeyboardInput event sheet under the Player > Input sub-group, it remains at the top-most level at the beginning of the event sheet.

Is possible to insert an event sheet within a group or sub-group, and if so then what am I doing wrong?

  • Seems to me a bit of an overkill (and perhaps unneeded overhead) readjusting the player sprite every single system tick when in fact it is only needed when the player box is actually moved.

Wouldn't it be better to do this inside of the player movements event?

  • A common design pattern seems to be creating a player box sprite which is moved around in the usual way, and then creating a separate player animation sprite which is connected to the box.

Has something to do with animations not displaying properly or something like that.

I've seen two ways mentioned to connect the two together, namely by:

    1. Setting the player position to the box at every system tick, or
    2. Pinning the player to the box

Was just curious which one is the preferred way.

  • Well, the fact that there are enough kind folks out there who have stuck with Construct 2/3 for so many years definitely must mean something positive.

Is the end goal for most game developers only to make tons of money?

Or is it more important for the majority of users to feel like full fledged members of a dynamic community having fun and making cool stuff they can share with each other?

  • Oh, my bad.

  • Hey WackyToaster, your game is amazing! You are pushing Construct to the limits. Are you at liberty to share some hints and tips to fellow aspiring game makers (me et al) how to accomplish your special effects and the rest?
